A new friend!

Summary:

Instead of getting scammed Luz meets someone in the Library.

Notes:

I was not a fan of the second episode of season one so wrote this instead! I’m not at all proud of it! :D okay I am but I don’t think it should be on the main story so I decided to move it here!

Work Text:

“Miss Eda! Wake up! You were supposed to teach me about how to become a witch!”

“No, leave me alone I’m sleepy”

Luz sighed as she went to the kitchen where King sat eating some eyes… Gross.

“No luck?” He asked almost teasingly. Luz only groaned in response.

“She gets tired sometimes and doesn’t come out of bed those days. Which means… we have the house all to ourselves! Hurray!”

King cheered Luz just groaned.

“That’s no fair! I came here to be a witch but my teacher isn’t even here to teach me to become said witch!”

“Eh, that sucks. Want some?” He held out a bowl for her to eat.

“No thanks, don’t have the stomach for it.” She then noticed a book on Eda’s desk. “This doesn’t look like some of the other books Eda has.”

“That’s because it comes from a place called “the Library” sounds lame.”

“You guys have libraries?!” She asked excitedly her mood cranking back up to eleven.

“Yeah?”

“I bet there are so many books about spells there-“ she gasped then picked up King. “Take me.”

King didn’t end up taking her but she did get a map and some questionable directions from Hooty. If worse came to shove she’d just ask a witch for directions and it’ll hopefully less ominous than Hooty’s.

But she’ll admit even the non witches look fricken sick and so unique and interesting and… would give anyone back in Connecticut a heart attack.

“Ow! Hey, watch it!” She ran into a girl with dark green hair, glasses and she looked kinda adorable.

“Oh, sorry.” Luz instinctively covered her face with her hoodie. And that’s where she realized this could be her chance to ask for proper directions. “Excuse me? This may be a weird question but where is the library?”

The girl froze and she crossed her arms. “Why? Looking for Amity?”

“Uh… Who’s Amity? I’m sorry I’m new and I wanted to get to know the place better from the library.” The girl just looked at Luz before what she said seemed to finally be processed in her mind.

”Oh! It’s just around the corner over there! You can’t miss it.”

“Thank you so much! Bye!” She waved the witch girl Goodbye. Unknown to Luz the witch girl was squealing to herself.

“My first real conversation with someone outside of Hexside!”

“Whoa. The witch girl was right. You can’t miss it.” The Library was huge to say the least. She doesn’t even know why she doubted even for a second on how she could miss it.

Filled with excitement to learn more, Luz entered the huge building.

There were many different species that she sees that she still finds so interesting. The library looks so different yet so similar to the one on Earth. It’s incredible. She went to some books and walked past some interesting stuff. Two witches that looked only slightly older than her pranking a worker, another witch that seemed to be her age reading to some children. Does she work here? Does the Boiling Isles allow child labor?

Without noticing she managed to enter the Biology isles. And one particular book caught her eye. ‘Where Witches get their magic’ she reached to grab it but something seemed to make it remain stuck. She then tried to pull harder and harder and then she stumbled back book in hand but she heard falling from the other side… oh crap was someone else grabbing for the book?

Luz rushed to the other person. It was a boy, with blonde hair, magenta eyes and from his ears also a witch. He groaned and picked up the books he dropped from what Luz presumed was him falling.

“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry.”

“It’s fine, should’ve known better if I had to pull.” He said then started to grab the books dropped.

“Here! Let me help.” She offered and the boy nodded great full.

“Thanks.” Luz picked up a book titled. ‘Grimwalkers: extinct or Faitytale? And the boy quickly grabbed it from her.

“Oh! Um, I’m Luz Noceda and you’re…?”

“Hunter Daemonne”

“Hunter! Nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too…” he replied smiling a bit. “I’ve never actually seen you in the library before.” He noted.

”Oh, um I’m new.”

“I see. Well it was nice meeting you Luz. Don’t get scammed by the chosen one shtick I see a lot of young new comers get scammed by that a lot.”

“Oh, um thank you for the advice Hunter.”

“Yeah… um bye.”

“Bye.” That was awkward. But she does hope she will see him again.

“You gonna check that out, or…”

“Oh! I will sorry!”

The next time she saw Hunter King was with her. They were walking around the market place while Eda was selling her goods. And for some reason still refusing to teach Luz. Hunter was with a little Beast demon with orange fur and Hunter seemed to somehow understand them.

“Hi Hunter! Fancy seeing you here!” Luz quickly made her presence known as she approached Hunter.

“Hi Luz.” He waved back. Imitating her.

“I didn’t take you as the type to go to the Market Hunter.” Luz decided, starting with an Ice breaker.

“I didn’t take you as the type to have a day for a pet.” Hunter teased back.

King loudly protested in turn. “King isn’t really mine, or a pet. I think…”

”Yeah! I’m the King of Demons!” The little guy proudly declared. The Orange haired demon did not hold back their laugh and Hunter just nodded hesitatingly.

“Right…”

“So! Hunter who’s your furry companion.” Luz said deciding to get the attention off of King so he doesn’t embarrass himself.

“This is Eberwolf, he’s my guardian.”

“Oh!” Luz exclaimed now interested and surprised. “I didn’t know Demons could be guardians for Humans!”

“I mean… it’s not illegal.” Was all Hunter said in turn Eberwolf just let out a shrug.

”So… what’s it like having a demon as a Guardian?”

“Well I wouldn’t know… Eber isn’t my only Guardian I do have a human guardian. Otherwise it’d get old really fast.” Hunter said clearing up the confusion.

“Ah! Oh! That makes much more sense!”

“Human! Can we keep walking? Listening to you talk with strangers is boring!” The two of them ignored King’s complaints and Eberwolf just snickered before quietly taking his leave. Also finding the conversation a little boring.

“What exactly is the rat if not your pet? And I know he isn’t your guardian because honestly you seem more like his guardian if that is the case.” Hunter asked confusion etched on his face.

“King is um…”

“THE KING OF DEMONS!”

“an Enigma… we aren’t exactly sure what he is.”

“We?” Hunter asked.

“Me and MY guardian!” Luz quickly said catching herself.

“The rat is weirdly endearing.” Hunter said deciding not to comment on Luz’s nervousness which was greatly appreciated.

“I should probably leave before I loose Eber. Bye Luz.”

“Bye Hunter!”

“He was nice.” Luz said smiling to herself.

”Speak for yourself!”
