Chapter Text
He felt drawn to the beach, it was sudden, but he wanted to go to the beach.
Cha Euijae walked through the shore as the moonlight revealed the path. There he found a boy, much bigger than he is and he had a familiar face, like Cha Euijae had seen him before somewhere. The boy turned around and smiled. His eyes were dead, no light in those violet eyes. Cha Euijae approached him, opening his mouth to ask.
"What's your name?"
"Lee Sayoung. Can I call you hyung?"
"Sure, suit yourself.." He didn't know why he let Sayoung call him hyung. It felt natural, the words rolled off his tongue like it was an expected thing to do.
Cha Euijae stood beside the younger boy. The breeze gently brushed through their hair as the cicadas in the background sang their mating call. He wanted to know more about this Lee Sayoung. As time flew, the boy turned to him and said gently.
"Hyung, you should go back."
"I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Well see about that."
—
The next day came. When Cha Euijae was waiting for the train to pass so he could meet Sayoung again, he felt a strange sense of uneasiness in his chest as the train passed with a loud honk.
'I shouldn't think about this.' Thought Cha Euijae as he walked to the beach. He saw Sayoung sitting on the san, his clothes were the same as yesterday. He quickly sat next to the boy.
"Don't you have school?"
"I just finish early."
"You seem to be in the same school as me. How come I never see you around?"
"I don't go out of class that much."
'Guess that makes sense.' Cha Euijae turned to the water, the waves clashing together and the cicadas were being louder than yesterday. It made a pretty scenery.
—
Cha Euijae had found an old camera when he was digging for his homework. He took it out and inspected it, it was pretty dusty, but it didn't seem that old. Like it had been there for at least a few months. He took it out and decided to turn it on to see the content.
It was photos and videos of him and a...boy. His appearance was very similar from Sayoung, except he had that light in his eyes, a sign of life. He immediately got up, took the camera and went out to see the boy.
"Sayoung!" He called out, stopping as he saw the boy turn around with a soft expression. "I found videos and photos of us." He informed as he showed the boy, who watched eagerly.
"That's great, hyung."
"Why are you so calm about it.."
"You'll see."
"What an odd reply..."
Although Cha Euijae didn't mind it.
As long as he is here and well, Cha Euijae didn't fear of him having the same fate as his best friend.
He smiled, hoping that he'd be able to spend the next summer with him.
—
He had a dream.
And it was the worst one he had this entire week.
It felt so real. Him walking to the beach, but one thing has changed, Sayoung was walking with him, hand-in-hand. They were laughing like stupid high schoolers in love, because that's what they used to be.
Sayoung standing on the tracks.
The honking became louder and louder until it was practically ringing im his ears.
The cicadas' chirping were smaller and smaller until all of them shut up.
And blood spilled. It all happened too fast, the train, Sayoung, everything was going too fast, and too real. Like he was reliving a memory.
"Sayoung!" A desperate shout ripped from
his throat as his camera fell to the ground with a sharp clack. He ran, but it was too late. Too much blood had been lost. Sayoung was gone, because the stupid Cha Euijae prioritized dumb photos over his life.
It happened again.
His aunt died from an illness, because she refused to tell him and because Cha Euijae thought it was nothing to be worried about.
His old best friend, Hong Yeseong, who died because Cha Euijae was too arrogant and lost in their stupid arguments, died at this exact railroad.
Cha Euijae took Sayoung into his arms, as he watched the life faded slowly from his eyes, he cried pathetically.
Cha Euijae's only sucess,
is now dead.
—
He woke up, gasping for air. He looked at the clock.
5 am.
He wasted no time, he ran barefoot until he reached the rails. Standing on the rails, there was Sayoung.
"Sayoung!"
"Have you finally remembered, hyung?" He didn't look at Cha Euijae. He was facing the sea, hands clasped together behind his back.
The sun made its debut as it slowly rised, blue now clashing and mixing into the orange.
"Sayoung..." Cha Euijae gulped, holding back his tears.
"Farewell, hyung." At that moment, he turned around. Cha Euijae considered running to hug him for the last time, only to hear the familiar loud honking.
The train passed and now Lee Sayoung was no longer here.
"S-Sayoung...." Cha Euijae sniffled, falling onto the ground as he stared at the spot Sayoung was standing earlier.
"I'm sorry. I really am..." He apologized to the Lee Sayoung who was no longer here.
