It was right after war when Katsuki first said these words. Izuku was sitting at his bedside he just got out of surgery, his heart being restored. Izuku was the worrying type he had been there day and night since he was admitted. The nurses said they didn't know when or even if Katsuki would wake up and they didn't know if he'd be the same. But Izuku knew that he'd wake up, he knew that in just a bit the loud angry blonde would be yelling at him and calling him a nerd. He believed it and that's all that he needed. It was around 3am when Katsuki woke up. He didn't move at first he just took in the scene trying to remember what had happened the last thing he remembered was being on the battle field fighting in the war. He was trying his best to hold off Shigiraki and All for one until Izuku could get there, but he never came. That's when it all started coming back. Izuku didn't come in time to save Katsuki like he had did for the other so many times, so to much of his surprise when he saw Izuku sitting in the chair across the darken room he was more than confused.
"Deku? Is that you?" His voice was weak and quiet, but the freckled boy woke up immediately.
"KACCHAN YOURE AWAKE OH MY GOSH YOU DONT KNOW HOW NERVOUS I WAS THAT YOU DIED I MEAN YOU DID DIE BUT LIKE I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO BE PERMANENTLY DEAD AND I-"
"Deku, I just woke the fuck up can you calm down?"
"Sorry, I just- I was really scared that I-" The boy started to choke up. "That I lost you" A few tears started to fall and lightly drip onto his cheeks.
"Oi, Deku you cryin?" The bed ridden boy lets out a pained laugh. He gestures to Izuku signaling him to come closer. The sobbing boy shuffled forward sniffling.
"Zu, it's okay I'm okay" He wiped the boys tears with his thumb. "You can't get rid of me that easy I have too much plot armor" The comment made Izuku laugh as he leaned into the blondes hands.
"You scare me like that again and I'll kill you though" The greenette wipes his nose.
"Trust me Zu, if I die I'm taking you with me shitnerd"
But that day Katsuki's heart gave out no one was ready for it especially not Izuku. It happened so fast, he was giving a speech about what it takes to be a hero and just collapsed. They knew after the surgery it wasn't going to be a permanent solution and it would shorten his lifespan by a bit, but at 35? When Izuku got the call time stopped. He ran from his job at the school and made it to the hospital in record time. He saw his best friend, the love of his life hooked up to what seemed like 100 machines the beeping was the only thing he could hear. Izuku's knees were weak his head was pounding his chest ached.
"No Kacchan, you said you weren't leaving me so you're not going to die. You CANT die" But words and promises aren't enough to keep someone alive.
August 5th at 4:56pm Katsuki Bakugo died. They say his heart couldn't handle it anymore. Izuku moved as a zombie, he had memorials to help plan and things to move. How could he tie his whole life into one day one celebration. What was there to even celebrate? Izuku's other half was gone. There isn't a moment he can think of where Katsuki wasn't by his side, and now he's gone. All he could do was sit in his living room wearing Katsuki's signature skull shirt that still smelled strongly of his cologne. He put in some old home movies their moms made when they were younger. He started to cry. It wasn't just a few tears the boy sobbed for hours.
"You said you wouldn't leave me without me Kacchan" He whispered. "YOU SAID YOU WOULDN'T LEAVE WITHOUT ME SO WHY ARENT YOU HERE!" He hugged himself and sobbed wondering why life took away his one good thing.
Many say time can heal a broken heart and in most cases it can, but it some cases time isn't enough, sometimes the heart stays broken. So when it was on the news that the hero Deku died August 7th at 4:57 am many made the connection. The cause of death wasn't confirmed at first, but after an autopsy it was revealed Izuku Midoriya died of a broken heart.
Katsuki never lied when it came to something serious that's why he meant what he said
"Trust me Zu, if I die I'm taking you with me shitnerd"
