Work Text:
Ena yawned, arms stretching as she woke from her slumber. She slowly removed the blanket enveloping her, her feet dipping onto the cold floor.
For some reason, her body hair stood up. She shook as her body took in the coldness.
In the corner of her eye, Ena noticed something unusual. Very unusual.
The harsh luminescence of the bathroom was on, slipping through a small crack in the door. The light made her shiver.
It felt lifeless compared to the warm illumination of her bedroom.
“Mafuyu?” She turned her head side to side as she softly said the purple-haired girl’s name.
There it was again. The cold light shining through the crack. It was bothering her too much.
Ena sighed, walking towards the door. Her hand reached for the knob.
“Cold.” She thought to herself, Does anything in this house feel warm?
Her hands shook, fearing the worst as she turned it clockwise. She then pushed the door open
The gleam blinded Ena’s eyes, the light felt interrogative and harsh.
She instinctively closed her eyes and used her hand to shield herself from the illumination.
The room felt cold. She could hear the pitter-patter of water from the tap. And… sobs!?
She shakily removed her hands from the top of her eyelids, no longer giving a shield to the unpleasant light.
There she was. Blood was surrounding her, it was all over the floor.
Ena’s gaze went downwards, her eyes on the stinging fresh cuts on Mafuyu’s arm.
Her heart dropped.
Mafuyu looked back at her, her eyes widening.
She dropped the blade, fear rushing through her body as she flinched from the stinging sensation of her scars.
Ena’s eyes were filled with worry and exasperation. Her eyebrows furrowed as her voice rose in volume.
“Mafuyu! Why couldn’t you tell me you were feeling like this!? We could’ve found another way to release—“
Mafuyu’s eyebrows furrowed as well, her jaw clenching.
“Shut up! You wouldn’t understand!” The earlier fright was being replaced by anger that was coursing through her body.
“You always see me as some selfish perfect girl who doesn’t consider those around her! You wouldn’t understand if I told you!”
“Are you joking!? I don’t see you that way at all! Did you think I won’t care if you told me about your feelings!?” Ena yelled back, her eyes darkened.
Ena huffed. Her hands balled into fists.
Suddenly, water started to fill her eyes. “Can’t you see I can’t lose you! If I lose you, I’ll have nothing left of me!”
Ena’s voice cracked, her heart cracking and aching in the process.
Their echoes clung to the tiled walls, leaving a sense of unease.
The two stopped talking, the silence deafening.
Ena tried to stop her tears that were practically begging to be let out.
For a second, Ena wanted Mafuyu to speak, even just a little.
Mafuyu and Ena started to calm down, and the two huffed until there was no more frustration in their eyes.
Ena sighed, opening the tiny cabinet to reach for a dusty white metal box. She blew the dust away, also wiping it with her bare hand.
Ena then sat down right beside Mafuyu, opening the metal box to grab soap.
“Stand up.” She says softly, Mafuyu obeyed.
Ena made her wash the blood off with soap, then she patted the scars dry using a cloth.
The two then sat on the floor again, with Ena’s shaky hands she wrapped bandages onto Mafuyu’s scars.
As she took care of Mafuyu, she couldn’t help but feel a rollercoaster of emotions. It was a mixture of heartbreak, anger, and love for the girl.
Why didn’t she see it sooner? Why didn’t she see that Mafuyu would soon spiral like this? She could’ve prevented it if she wasn’t so blind.
“Please.. Next time tell me if you’re feeling this way again… I’ll find another way to let you release your emotions. Please, Mafuyu.” She says, her tone warm and gentle as she continued bandaging her arm.
Mafuyu flinched since the scars still hurt, but soon enough she was giving in. The stinging pain was being replaced by something else.
Warmth went up to Mafuyu’s chest, a soft smile plastering to her face as the girl she loved the most took care of her.
