Late to the Game

Notes:

So, I missed the sign up for the 1D Wordplay Challenge 9.0, but an idea sparked and I’m feeling itchy. Allow me to tag along behind, please.

I kept each weekly challenge to 100 words because the summer drabble challenge was right up my street and I like (some) boundaries.

I'd also like to thank the mods for this challenge, even if I'm unofficial.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Gravitas

Summary:

It feels like even the weight of their relationship's previous chapters can’t keep them anchored.

Notes:

Inspired by Prompt 9.1: Hill

If you haven't heard of a gravity hill, you might want to check it out. You get the sense that your car in neutral should roll one way while in reality it rolls the other.

Chapter Text

They’d decided to go for an evening drive, the lingering miasma at home stifling them. They needed to breathe. Following familiar routes through older neighborhoods, they ended up on the narrow track above Memory Grove.

Harry turned toward Louis to see if he recalled it, too, one of their first dates. They’d been spontaneous when younger, always up for a laugh, checking out Gravity Hill to see the illusion for themselves - putting the car in neutral, rolling backwards while feeling like they should be moving forward.

Louis was already looking at Harry, but there wasn’t a glimmer in his eyes.
