Watching Desscaras was almost funny. The woman could be sweet if a bit of an idiot at times with people close to her, but when the public became involved her narcissistic side came out.
Thus the event to introduce Ichi to the world, and Desscaras was in her element.
Togeice sat at a table outside the mob at the center. She sipped her drink as she kept roaming her eyes around the room. Currently three groups had formed gathering around the different teammates of team Desscaras.
The first group and the largest by far, was the amount of witches grouped around Ichi. Though most weren't engaging, mainly just trying to get a good look at him.
The second was the group gathered around Desscaras, and was mainly composed of witch cadets trying to get their various Desscaras merch signed.
The third group was small and was around Gokuraku. Which seemingly was the most engaged, between the group and the person who was there.
She remained unbothered, as much as she was well known, and well respected at that. She figured she'd be the least sought after in a room such as this.
Few came over, but was more so when people didn't want to fully wait in the mob around Desscaras. Some had the merch that Desscaras made of her sometimes. Mostly around Togeice's birthday, and at this point she had stopped resisting it as she was gonna do it anyway.
There were one or two with fanart of her and Desscaras. She was somewhat surprised she didn't see more. From what she had heard at one point it was a popular idea amongst the cadets that she, and Desscaras were together.
She got lost in her thoughts, before she felt a finger tap her shoulder, and it snapped her from her back to reality.
“Sulking over here really?” Desscaras drawled as she smirked.
“Got away from your fangirls? I'm shocked you'd do so.” Togeice responded dryly.
It only earned her a chuckle in response.
“There's been some sort of stir up with the harvest sisters, so they all migrated that way” Desscaras gestured lazily with her hand.
“Shouldn't you check on that then?” Desscaras shook her head.
“Ichi's with her and she'll be fine.” Desscaras looked over to where the crowd gathered.
“So why come over to me?” Togeice surveyed the crowd as well.
“Well it’s a party, and you don’t look happy.” Desscaras smirked, bopped her on the nose before adding “Granted your always serious but still”
“I don’t need to look-” Desscaras pressed a teasing finger to her lips.
“There's music, and I wanna see if you’ve gotten better at dancing.” Desscara's smirk widened as Togeice's face flushed. She quickly stamped her embarrassment away, and glared at Desscaras.
“You're the one who was bad at dancing.” She growled back in response, but it lacked her usual bite.
Desscaras simply laughed in response, and grabbed Togeice's hand leading her to a space they could dance.
Togeice let her pull her along to the spot. Some of the cadets looked over, but quickly looked away, and would go back to whatever was happening between the Harvest sisters.
And so, they danced.
It was surprising that they stayed slow. Togeice didn’t know Desscaras to do anything slow, but she seemed to be taking specific care here.
They stayed like that dancing at a reasonable pace for a while. The music hummed in the background, but it might as well have been silent such as in a cheesy romance novel.
“I’m sorry I didn't tell you first.”
“About?”
“The bond.”
“Ah that.” Togeice gaze drifted away from Desscaras's to the rest of the room. “That issue has passed as what’s done is done. Nothing much to apologize for and discuss-”
Desscara's hands grabbed Togeice’s face, making her look at her. Togeice sputtered in surprise as Desscaras said,
“You’re still worried.” Desscara's voice was soft, the usual arrogance gone. It was a tone she rarely used in public, and around anyone. Togeice shuttered at the Desscaras gaze as it seemed to penetrate her very soul in that moment. Hundreds of moments such as this played through her head.
“Well of course just thinking of how many majiks would-” Togeice sputtered out as she began to regain her composure.
“You could handle it, and take my place.” Togeice blinked her eyes in surprise as she met Desscara's eyes again.
“Desscaras you have done something no witch in history has….You’re once in a century prodigy and I am not gonna be over confident about my abilities!” Togeice stopped to take a breath.
“You can.” Desscaras pulled Togeice closer. “I have faith in you, and prophecy be damned, I have faith in Ichi to live.”
They stood in silence for a moment. Togeice fist clenched as she pushed away from Descarras.
“ Faith has no merit, compared to action. We have no evidence that I could do some of the things you’ve done!” Togeice brushed at non-existent things on her clothes. “And as I stated already, what's done is done, and we can’t change it.”
They stood frozen for a moment until Togeice continued.
“And let the record show I don’t have much faith in your decision making. I have seen you lie, cheat people out of good and pay, and a variable ton of other things. Your arrogance has caused havoc!” Togeice took a moment to breathe as Desscaras stood in silence.
“And I as much as I understand why you made the bond with Ichi, but it was still reckless, and it’s dangerous. It throws the world into a precarious position if he and you die! No amount of faith is evidence enough that your decision will work itself out!” Togeice fixed Desscaras with a glare, and they fell into silence.
A flash of hurt crossed Desscaras’s face, and Togeice glare softened, but quickly Desscaras masked it with her usual arrogance.
“I figured you’d say that. Well guess my job here’s done and I'm gonna go see what’s going on with Ichi, and Kumigi.” Desscaras turned and walked away leaving Togeice standing in place, and after a moment Togeice turned to walk back where she was sitting before.
She sat down feeling a bitter ache in her chest, and she decided that it was going to be a long night. Some part of her hurt she didn’t want to acknowledge why. She had done what she did best, relying on logic, and using it in a way to make her decisions on things.
So why did this time feel wrong? Why had she gotten a warm blossom in her chest when Desscaras had said she had faith in her? Why did she feel a bitter ache after telling Desscaras off even after doing it a million times? The answer came but she dismissed it. It couldn’t be right she was sure of it.
The majik’s in her head laughed. She was a fool, and they knew it, and she knew it, but she would never admit it.
