Work Text:
It was quite a scene for Mitsuki to come up to her, mid conversation with a boy in class about music, and ask if they were dating. Right away, she knew it would be an infamous moment, something that wouldn’t be so easily forgotten by her peers.
Aya was still reeling when school ended, especially considering how casual and sure Mitsuki was. She knew her red face could be seen from outer space, she was that flustered. That casual confidence was definitely one of her weaknesses.
Mao and Chizuru could be counted on to quickly ambush her after class, almost like a pair of reporters eager for a juicy quote for a tabloid.
“That was crazy, Aya-chan!!! That was crazy!!!” Mao squealed, clutching one of Aya’s hands in her fists and jumping with it. Her excitement was palpable, radiating off her like the sun’s rays on a hot summer day.
Once again Aya blushed, nodding and remembering Mitsuki’s hand around that same wrist, looking her in the eye and asking about their relationship.
“She was so cool saying it too,” Chizuru nodded as she recalled. “We’re dating right? Just wow, I think I’d even swoon at that.”
“It’s a little embarrassing to have a scene in front of everyone but....” Aya started, her voice dropping and a smile spreading across her lips. “But it’s also a bit exciting?”
It was just like in a manga, Aya swore she could see the hearts in Mao’s eyes as she jumped again, scandalized yet giddy. Even Chizuru couldn’t help but crack a grin, clearly happy to share in Aya’s romance.
“You’ve got it so bad, that girl has got you wrapped around her finger!!” Mao jumped again, and Aya’s fingers started to go numb. “I’m so jealous, you guys are fantastic!!”
“She’s the one who’s fantastic, I am so very lucky.” Aya paused, then looked at her hand. “Now please, Mao-chan, I can’t feel my hand....”
Chizuru had to forcefully pry Aya’s arm from Mao’s tight grasp.
After she finally made it outside, once again she was bombarded by an excited friend.
“I CANNOT believe I missed it!!!” Narita bounced into her path, nearly running right into her. “You mean to say the moment I go to get lunch is when I miss Koga-san staking her claim to you in front of the entire class??”
Aya’s face would never be the same today, she felt it heat up once again.
“I mean, it was just—”
“I’ll need details from you, I don’t want more second hand rumors!”
That earned him a glare and she rammed her shoulder into his to get some of her space back.
“Koga-san asked if we were dating. I said we are.” She couldn’t help but have a smug smile, she was excited to be able to officially call Mitsuki her girlfriend.
“More details though??” Narita frantically wrung his hands, his voice rising in volume where there was no doubt anyone walking nearby could easily hear him.
“Hmph!” Aya stiffly turned and began walking towards the gate. Behind her, she could hear him wailing like a hurt child.
By the time she was almost at the gate, she thought she was finally in the clear. She pulled out her phone, ready to text her girlfriend and find out where she was when—
“So you guys are official now.”
She turned, to find Hime casually leaning against the wall, one earbud in her hand.
“News travels fast, huh?” Aya said dryly, already getting a bit tired of all the attention.
Hime pushed off from the wall and stopped short of her, her eyes looking up into hers.
However, she remained quiet. Her piercing gaze did not leave her own though. Almost instantly, her underclassman was making her nervous with her stare.
“Are you.... well uh—” Aya stammered before she was cut off.
“You two do suit each other. So congrats.” Hime spoke resolutely. She nodded once then put her earbud back in and swiftly walked off, not waiting for a response.
Aya couldn’t help but smack her hand over her face, already so ready for this day to be over. She slowly started to walk through the school’s gate, fumbling with her own earbuds so maybe she could walk and ignore any further questions from curious classmates.
Before she could even get one in, she heard a voice.
“Ah, Oosawa-san....”
Instantly she jumped, ready to fend off yet another nosy person, but—
Mitsuki smiled and all her anxiety melted away. She stepped closer to Aya, holding out one hand.
“May I walk you home?”
Without even having to think, she took the hand and they started walking.
A moment passed but once they were a block away from the school, Aya gently bumped into Mitsuki, a shy smile over her face.
“I think you owe me now.”
Mitsuki blinked adorably, her eyebrows raising in confusion. “Wait, what do you mean?”
“You caused such a ruckus today, I’ve had to fend off so many nosy people!”
“A ruckus? What do— oh.”
“Yeah.” Aya snorted then mimicked. “Oh.”
At that, Mitsuki stopped their walk and shyly ran her hand over her face, averting her eyes.
”Well, that’s....” Mitsuki started, clearly trying to choose the right words. “I was jealous.”
Aya blinked, as Mitsuki shrugged her shoulders.
“Yeah, that’s just what it was. I saw you two talking and it just came over me.” Finally her eyes met her own again, her brows furrowing in concern. “I’m sorry if it caused you problems though, I didn’t mean any harm....”
It felt like a hand clutched at her heart, and in response she squeezed Mitsuki’s hand. Her free arm circled her girlfriend’s shoulder, pulling her close.
“I mean, well....” Aya paused, now finding her own words. She felt Mitsuki relax in her embrace, which caused another jab of love to strike her heart. “Well, I’m fine with you claiming me, since it’s you.”
She took a breath before freeing her hand from Mitsuki’s grasp and wrapping the arm around her.
“It’s okay because I’m your girlfriend.”
Aya could feel the other girl jump in her grasp, Mitsuki pulled back slightly to look into Aya’s eyes.
“Say that again.”
Mitsuki put one hand on her cheek.
“I’m your girlfriend.”
Mitsuki’s lips drifted close to her own.
“.... Say it again.”
“I’m your girlf—” Mitsuki cut her off with a tender kiss, not letting her finish.
Aya always thought it was silly in romance movies when the couple was so absorbed in each other during a kiss that it was like the world around them dissolved.
But now, she realized just how accurate that was. Her eyes slipped shut as she pressed herself into the kiss. Mitsuki’s hand was so warm on her cheek, her soft lips on her own caused all the stress from the day to fade away. Every kiss was a treasure she wanted to hold onto, she knew she could never take them for granted.
Mitsuki gently pulled back, causing Aya to lean forward and follow her lips to continue the kiss. That caused them both to grin into it, Aya just short of giggling at it. Giggling at them.
“Now, c’mon,” Mitsuki finally spoke, still so close that Aya not only heard the words but felt them. “We’re in the middle of the street.”
She couldn’t help the sigh, her eyes finally blinking open and when Aya saw the look on Mitsuki’s face, she felt her world lurch again. That loving look was so powerful, it made her want to go back in for another kiss, but....
“Alright, alright.... but let’s go to the shop, I want more time with my girlfriend.”
Mitsuki’s hand grasped her own again, and she freely gave yet another radiant smile.
“I’ve plenty of time for my girlfriend.”
