Work Text:
Kim Dokja was a simple man. Truly he is! All he needed to stay alive was water, food, a home and clothes on his back (and a book…or a web novel who’s to say?) But after meeting a certain man who plays games for a living and has the personality of a rock and a body as hard as one, he may or may not have gained another necessity. And that was his attention, which he did not have at the moment. And he is not very joyous at the prospect of not getting some well deserved cuddles or at least a gourmet dinner served on a dinner plate from their kitchen after a grueling day at work.
His beloved was still in his office (read: Gaming room) playing the new game he recently helped develop. That being said, he was the head of that project, which was funny to think of since his whole team thought it was a good idea without even realizing that said idea was just a re-telling of his favorite web novel (“See Sooyoung? Your story is good, your story telling is just garbage- wha-? OW! Han Sooyoung put the chair dow-”) He even got permission from the author to re-create her novel (“Like hell I’ll give you my consent you rat faced moron! Now get out of my house!”) So he had his lover – who has a very large follower count and internet status – to both market the game and Han Sooyoung’s novel. Which was probably a bad idea now because said lover is not paying him any mind because he’s hooked to the game.
Now with all that bubbling disappointment, he stood up from where he was grumbling about how stupid his boyfriend was and went to the kitchen to get something to eat. He opened the kitchen cupboard just above his head and started rummaging through its contents to find one singular cupped noodle. See, after moving in with Joonghyuk the man banned him from eating any more processed foods (“You are not eating any more of these packaged junk food, you’re skinny enough, more of these and you’ll eventually die.”) in favor of a healthier and more balanced diet by cooking him home cooked meal. Well, since he’s not here now, he might as well.
Heating and pouring down the water into the plastic made him fall into a familiar rhythm, a rhythm that he thought was long forgotten. He made his way behind the kitchen island and indulged himself in his noodles with his phone propped up on a bowl of fruits facing his lover’s stern look on his live stream.
Kim Dokja was a loyal fan of his. Every time he would start his live, Kim Dokja made it his mission to show up first and greet him first. Then one eventful night, at the edge of a bridge with phone in hand listening to the quiet noise of the water hitting the rocks beneath him, tears made their way down his face ready to end it all, a shaking hand gripped his wrist, and low and behold, was the face of his idol. And one thing led to another, he ended up as his boyfriend of 4 years.
He watched as Joonghyuk killed a monster on screen while sipping on the soup. Joonghyuk was right, this did taste like shit…or maybe he just got used to his cooking, either way, he finished it and threw the package away.
Now usually, Yoo Joonghyuk would end his streams just before he gets home so he would have time to cook for him. But with the game being popular and having an incredible story line, Kim Dokja couldn’t blame him for not keeping track of time.
As he put the bowl down on the sink, he hit his elbow on the heater with hot water causing it to fall down with a clash and burn his hand when he idiotically tried to reach for it in an attempt to stop it from colliding with the floor. He hissed at the contact and all of a sudden–
BANG!
The door to his boyfriend’s office flew open with said boyfriend holding a baseball bat with an angry expression, he probably assumed I was a thief breaking an entry. It took him about 8 seconds to assess the scene in front of him, a fallen heater and an office worker using their other hand to hold up the one with a reddish hue. He dropped the bat and rushed towards him and led him to the sink pouring cool water on his hand.
It was a silent moment with only the flowing water being the only noise. Kim Dokja lifted his head towards the man beside him, all fury leaving his perfect features leaving only a concerned look on his face. He didn’t know how long he’d been staring but it must've been long enough for Joonghyuk to speak up.
“Stop staring, sit down and wait for me.” He said with a gruff to his tone. He did what he was told and waited for him to return.
He came back holding a med kit. He wrapped a loose fabric on his hand before looking up towards him.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah”
“Does it still hurt?”
“No”
“When did you get back?”
“Like…an hour ago?”
When he said that, his face looked worried again, all soft and emotional.
“Did you eat anything before coming home?” He looked at his watch and cursed silently “It’s late…tell me you ate something…”
“I ate cupped noodles.” He said way more casually than he should have.
“Kim Dokja.”
“Yoo Joonghyuk.”
“You’re a moron.”
“I know.”
“You should’ve called me.”
“You were busy.”
That struck a nerve, because the next thing he knew he stood up and cupped his face looking all angsty, which was basically his default face.
“Nothing, and I mean nothing will be as important as you, and that means your health you idiot. Didn’t I tell you that they were unhealthy for you? All that progress, lost, because you couldn’t call me like a sane person.”
I let out a small laugh before leaning in close to get rid of the gap between us. A small, tender kiss against his lips. I pulled back and relished in the soft gaze in front of me. I gave him a peck to the lips.
“I could eat more y’know”
He let a small puff of air from his mouth and kissed my forehead and moved towards the fridge grabbing his ingredients.
He thought Kim Dokja didn't see the way the corners of his mouth lifted up.
