Work Text:
If Suzy has to look at Isabel Guerra’s face for one more minute, she is going to lose. It.
This girl. This girl! She’s so… ugh! Suzy cannot tear her eyes away. Isabel is so… so! She’s all proud and popular and well-liked. She’s so funny and charming and oh, why don’t you like her, Suzy, she’s great, and Suzy, I think this might be like, emotionally unhealthy for you, like everything else you do, but that’s laughable, Colin, because Isabel Guerra is infuriating and any normal person can see that just as clearly as she can! It’s just that this school—no, this whole town!—is anything but normal!
God!
Sure, Isabel is just sitting there in the desk in front of her. Suzy knows she’s just, just plotting something, or hiding something. That’s another thing! She’s so secretive. Suzy was made to sniff out secrets, and Guerra just wont. Give. It. Up. It drives her crazy!
The bell rings. Suzy scowls at the back of Isabel’s head, except then it’s Isabel’s face, and she quickly schools her expression into something less scathing as Isabel meets her eyes. Inexplicably, Suzy’s face warms, flushing red.
“Um,” Isabel says. “Hey.”
“Hey yourself,” she says, as rudely as she can manage. Which is undercut by the fact that she is wearing a lacy pink shirt, today, and she hardly looks intimidating at all.
“Did you… need something?” Isabel asks, leaning down to grab her backpack where it sits against the leg of her desk.
Suzy scowls, snatching up her own from the back of her chair. “No,” she snaps, “no I did not.”
God, how dare she look so, so confused! Like she doesn’t know what she’s doing! Like she’s… hurt… by Suzy’s… outbursts. No, she thinks, she’s manipulating you, Suzy. Head in the game! She can just ignore Isabel’s expression, and her bright brown eyes, and the cute, confused twist to her mouth as she says, “Okay.”
God, what? Suzy just stares at her for half a second more, before shaking her head with a huff and stomping past her desk. She doesn’t see Isabel’s eyes lingering on her back, wide and confused.
And she doesn’t. Need to.
