Chapter Text

Kat was your typical working class citizen of Ferngill Republic; except for the fact that she inherited an old, abandoned farm with a side of creepy, broken down, one-story house from her dead grandfather she barely knew. You know, the usual. She was just working her 9-5 office job in some random city where she doesn't even remember the name of. And why would she? Ferngill Republic was in the middle of a war with God knows who. Why bother remembering? Why bother actually pursuing her dream job, or settling down to have a family if you're just gonna be dead the next day, with your hometown being left in ruins from all the bombs being set off like fireworks.

Click clack click "Job's boring as hell, but at least the keyboards are satisfying to type on." she thought. She was running solely on coffee, and maybe a couple of Ritz crackers. The person next to her tries to exchange small talk with her, but Kat was completely zoned out. "Crazy weather we're having amiright? I took one step on the driveway and almost slipped down towards the road and almost got mauled over by a car. Thank Yoba winter's almost- oh you're done with that email? Great so now you can tell me about your day. "How do I get them to shut the fuck up? hmmm..." She swiftly reaches in the file cabinet, hoping to find something to work on, as an excuse to not interact with this little yapper. Oh, it's *that* letter. She read it a while ago, and just stuffed it back in with the other files. This was perfect. "What's that?" "Oh it's from my deceased grandpa"

"Was that really necessary to say? Well at least he'll never try to talk to me again" She exits her car and heads into her apartment, safe from the frigid gusts of wind. The letter remains in her hand, "I should've just thrown this away" She opens the already torn envelope and unveils the content beneath it.

If you're reading this, you must be in dire need of change. The same thing happened to me, long ago. I'd lost sight of what mattered most in life...real connections with other people and nature. So I dropped everything and moved to the place I truly belonged.
