Chapter 1: A Parenting Win

Chapter Text

Silence.

This is not what Donna expected when she turned off the water. She puts on her robe as she steps out of the shower and removes excess water from her hair with a towel before slipping onto her slippers and leaving their en-suite. She stops in her tracks the moment she opens the door.

Harvey is flat on his back on their bed, definitely sleeping, dressed in a black t-shirt and gray sweatpants. His left arm is curled protectively around Liam, who’s drifted off still holding one of his picture books in one hand as the other clutches Harvey’s shirt. And nestled perfectly on his chest, wearing the cutest lilac onesie, there’s their four-month old Mia, her cheek pressed against his heartbeat. Her thumb rests lazily near her tiny mouth as Harvey’s hand safely holds her there, the rise and fall of his chest in sync with her soft baby breathing.

Donna leans against the doorframe, melting at the view. Damn him. She knows he’s always been a sight to behold — in a suit, in a courtroom, preparing for a trial… But this? This is the version of him no one else gets to see. The version that makes her fall in love with him a little more every day even after being together for almost six years. The great Harvey Specter — to the rest of the world — now lays asleep with two small pieces of his heart sprawled across him like they belong nowhere else.

She tiptoes into the room with her phone in hand. She knows this is one of those moments that will stay with her long after the kids are grown, but she can’t help but snap a quick photo nonetheless. Donna moves quietly to the other side of the bed, careful not to wake them, and slips under the covers. As she does, Mia shifts slightly and lets out a content sigh, but she doesn’t wake up. Donna gently takes the book from Liam and he stirs a little, mumbling something about a dragon, which Donna can’t make much sense of because he turns toward Harvey’s side, nestling closer to his dad.

Feeling the small movement, Harvey’s eyes blink awake in alert, though he relaxes when he feels Donna’s hand finding his under the blanket. His eyes soften at the sight of her.

“We were reading Goodnight Moon,” he whispers, his voice thick with sleep. “I think Mia got bored, she couldn’t make it past page four.” Harvey smiles, drowsy and warm, gently patting their daughter’s back.

“It clearly knocked him right out, too.” Donna chuckles softly, carefully running her fingers over Liam’s sandy hair.

“Parenting win,” Harvey smirks lazily, already letting his eyes close again. “Five more minutes and we put them to bed, okay?”

Harvey feels Donna’s hand squeeze his in agreement. She lets herself sink into the bed, one arm around her family, and thinking to herself that, if it were up to her, she’d stay in this moment forever.
