Clinging to the waist of his boyfriend, Todoroki let the hot summer air melt away with the thrash of the wind that slapped his cheeks. Every twist and turn of the road forced him to squeeze harder onto Sero's and feel the washboard abs he held beneath his buttoned up shirt. The thing was awefully ugly with depictions of many chopped fruits over a pastel orange background. Kiwi's, pineapples, lemon slices all in neon shades littered the oversized material. Despite how much he hated the thing, the wind rippled the sleeves of Shoto's own matching shirt, with a pale blue background. The two swereved through traffic already late to their friends beach BBQ. The summer days had been long and tiring. The sun didn't help when wearing hero suits all day in the blistering temperature. So when bakusquad's very own Mina Ashido suggested a beach day all were very excited to take a break and cool off. Well, all but the aptly names groups leader- Bakugo. But when grilled meat and cold beers was pitched he was in no position to deny the day sounded perfect.
The group had all agreed to each bring some form of food and meet at the sandy beach coats for 3. Giving time for beach games, swimming, catching up and grilling so they could all enjoy an early dinner at 5. But now it was 3:30 and the tape and ice pair were late. So late in fact they were certain Bakugo would have their heads. It wasn't their fault- it was Hanta's. The moment he saw his stoic boyfriend emerge from his bedroom in swim short and swim short only he had pushed himself off the door and taken the dual-haired man right back into the bedroom. And now they were speeding dangerously down the roads while both of their phones rang off the hook asking where they were with the burger patties.
Finally with the salty air hitting his nose, Todoroki could see the crystal waters of the ocean lap over the golden sand. The sight was beautiful as each glint of the sunlight on the ocean waves winked at him creating a plane of glitter. As if agreeing with the thoughts in Shoto's head, his devoted boyfriend squeezed his hand that seatbelted his waist.
They parked, the tape hero calmly holding a hand out to help the peppermint-haired man off the motorbike before even removing his helmet. Their hands met and that familiar warmth that engulfed the icey hand spread through his body, radiating like a candle does as it burns down the wick. The flame of Hanta's dark eyes melting his heart all over again as when they first held hands. These small intimacies were the world to Shoto. Each graze of fingers against his palm, the ruffle pf his hair, touching of knees, humming along to the song in his head as Shoto's own lay against his chest. That was the moment he knew he was in love with Hanta. He never understood the feeling of wanting to be close to someone and wanting that in return, mutual need to be in the other's presence even when doing nothing. One day when he was still in the early days of exploring a relationship with the goofy man, they lay together on Hanta's bed while listening to a song the ice-hero couldn't understand and suddenly felt a rumble under his ear, the one that lay over the other boy's heart. Each thump in rhythm to the beat as the soft rumble vibrated through his body. It was so soothing. A kind of calm he'd never experiences before. When Hanta felt the other boy lift his head he removed his arm from around Shoto's back fearing he'd crossed a boundary he didn't realise only to be faced with soft lips against his own. The feeling was gone within a blink, too quick for the brown-eyed boy to fully lean in and capture the moment. "I think I love you." And then Shoto went back to laying on his chest as if he hadn't just confessed.
That day came flooding back to Shoto's mind as his dutiful boyfriend removed his helmet and ruffled the red and white locks so they didn't stick so platicky to his head from the sweat of the helmet. Taking the chance to do the same for Hanta he said "I think I love you" whilst fixing the long tendrils of his boyfriends shoulder length hair. Instead of wide eyes and a dumbfound look, the other man simply smiled with a chuckle and kissed Todoroki on the cheek before whispering "I hope more than just 'think'" in his ear. The usual line of his mouth that lay flat twitched at the corners and grew when he saw the smirk on the tape-hero's face. He gave a kiss to the other cheek before running to the back of the bike and unloading the frozen goodies- slushie cocktails and burger patties- into his arms before grabbing his boyfriends hand and walking up to the group.
"Oh! My! God!" the overzealous voice of Mina announced their arrival, "Where have you guys beeeeeen? We need time for the meat to thaw and be cooked and I've been desperate for one of 'Roki's homemade cocktail slushies." Despite her whining the pink lady bounced over to the men and dragged them both into a hug. While the pair had grown since their highschool days, Mina had not. She pulled the two down by their necks in order to swish them in a classic Ashido hug. But being so close to each other on such a hot day was making Todoroki feel sticky and he could only tolerate one person being so close in his personal space. Sensing the need for an escape, Hanta rested the bag of frozen beef on the shorter woman's back causing her to yelp and leap away from them. She chased after her assailant with a wild slapping hand as he walked away from his boyfriend to the mobile BBQ Sato was setting up.
"Babe! Avenge me! Sero put frozen raw meat on my back and you just sun-creamed it." Sato took the bag of patties off Sero and greeted him with a classic bro hug- handshake and a pat on the back- before taking Mina in his arms keeping the frozen-raw-meat away from her. The two had been an unlikely pair to class-A. They had been assigned to a rescue mission together after a natural disaster had wrecked Sato's hometown and returned a week later with noticeable tension. The bakusquad had spent a month trying to figure out why their usual bubbly squad member was a blushing mess who seemed to be dazed when at a bakery. When the two revealed they began dating for a few weeks after mission but couldn't shake the awkwardness it was Todoroki wo piped up and said "You should just fuck," and resumed slurping his noodles as he comfortably sat in Sero's lap. The whole group had been shocked at the suggestion. Even more shocked when Mina came by the next hang-out and was back to her normal self. None of them verbally confirmed of she had taken Shoto's advice but the smug look of his boyfriends face suggested she had.
While watching the interaction between Mina's boyfriend and his own, a hand came up and gently tapped his shoulder in greeting. Turning to his left, Shoto saw the glistening see and purple hair. His smile remained as he nodded to Shinsou and wordlessly followed the man to an egregiously large canopy umbrella. The two had become fast friends as 'outsiders' of the group as well as having questionable choices for boyfriends when their chosen idiots got together. One braincell is shared between them when Kaminari and Sero reunite, all other rational thoughts melt like acid on plastic. The result being some form of chaos. A thud followed but unhinged laughter alerted the two that the idiots had indeed collided. Literally. Kaminari's version of a greeting was ramming his full bodyweight at the person and crushing them under his joy to see them again. Looking over his shoulder, the ice-hero was satisfied that all was okay seeing the blinding smile on his lovers face. The heterochromatic eyes catching onto the black-metal lip ring that circled the brown-haired man's plump lips. When he first got it pierced the weeks of no-kisses we agonising and by the time Shoto could share his affection with his boyfriend he'd become a rabbit in heat. The lip ring drove him crazy in a way he didn't believe was possible yet that month after the no-kiss rule was lifted resulted in sheets needing to be washed almost every night.
"Hey man, it's been way too long," blond said to his best friend.
"Yeah, jeez. Why haven't we seen eachother." At Sero's words the two looked over suspiciously at their quiet boyfriends who had diverted their eyes anywhere else as if they hadn't been eaves dropping. It's not that Shinsou and Todoroki conspired to keep their respective lovers away from each other but there was an unspoken rule that the two not be left unsupervised and when schedules got busy having time for a partner let alone friends was tough. That's why this beach day was so important to them all. The summer caused more people to leave their homes and more accidents to happen. The heat made quite a few people very short fused and moody. One example being their resident hot head who had just emerged from the sea.
Kirishima who was sitting on a towel under the umbrella and ready to greet the late comers was left speechless as water droplets dangles from the sopping blond locks of his husband. The salty seawater dripped from the tip of his hair and into his sunkissed sculpted chest, rolling over his pectorals and down his abs. The Pro-Hero: Dynamite themes swim shorts he wore clung to his toned things and emphasised the flex of each muscle as his legs wrestled with the water resistance. His biceps flexed as he ran his hand through his hair and pushed the soaked locks away from his burning red eyes that staired down the shark-toothed man. "God, can you not eye-fuck each other for one second" came Shinsou's teasing voice pulling Kirishima out of his trance. His face turning the same red as his hair, eye bashfully cast down at the sand as his sharp teeth tugged at his lip.
The sleepy-eyed man in the shade only stopped his sniggering when a towel 'accidentally' hit his face after Bakugo had come to dry off and say hello the late comers. Well, rather shout at them for being 35 minutes late and also forgetting suncream when a certain someone with affinity for ice didn't do well in the sun. Hearing Bakugo's berating, Sero paused his rambunctious catch-up with Kaminiari to save his boyfriend. He approached Todoroki with a solemn expression when he remembered that the sun protection wasn't packed and that would mean the peppermint-haired man was stuck in the shade. Luckily Mina was always over prepared and gifted her spare spare suncream for Sero to lather over his pale-skined lover.
"Can you take your top off please?" Sero's smooth voice said as he looked kindly at Shoto. It's not the fact that the ice-hero didn't like taking off his top, it often burned off his body when he used his flames but evidence of why they were late lay under the collar. "Sho baby, please. I want you to have fun and I don't want you to burn. Your shoulders are the worst with the sun and you can't go in the water with your shirt still on." The dual-eyed man just stared more at his man with rosey cheeks slowly growing hotter. His eyes wide and fists clenched tightly in his lap, elbows locked so stiffly his arms were shaking. "Hey," the other man said, placing a gentle hand on his boyfriend's, "I'll take mine off too, yeah." He said sincerely believing Shoto to be insecure with removing his shirt. It was like that for many things that he felt unsure of. The man in front of him would always offer to do it too, slowly taking the same baby steps with him and never getting impatient.
Sero knew how much his lover hated being undressed like a present so instead he demonstrated unbuttoning his own horrible shirt and watched as Shoto's mirror instincts did the same. Everyone around them too busy in their own conversations to mention the bite and hickey forming at the base of his neck. Those who did notice didn't comment and moved on with whatever they were doing, like calling Kaminari over to drink water and stay hydrated. After they two were only in their swim shorts, Todoroki's eyes widened further. He had seen Hanta shirtless many times, the ink that littered his arms and left pectoral was nothing new, but every time he was reintroduced to the swirling patterns that decorated the tan skin his heart beat a little faster and his palms got clammy and he was a highschooler all over again. As his boyfriend began creaming up his lover's arms, Shoto's eyes were drawn to the image that was displayed over the centre of Hanta's heart. The only colourful piece in all the black and white that unfolded over each arm and shoulder. The waves of the ocean that curled over the left shoulder released a wave of fish and flowers that floated over the left pectoral, and in the middle was a snowflake. It was intricate with sharp edges that contrasted the soft petals of the lilies that surrounded it. The icey blue crystallisation of each arm popped vibrantly against Sero's almond skin. After their two year anniversary, Sero had surprised his lover with a tattoo over his heart of the same snowflake that was encased in resin that Shoto had gifted the man for their one year. He'd cried at the reveal. A permanent maker of just how much he loved the dual-haired man.
"Okay, spin around so I can get your back." He said, and Shoto abridged. The tender moment shared between them going unnoticed by the rest of the Bakusquad. Well, all apart from Jirou who had dubbed herself the photographer for their day out. Her girlfriend would be here were it not for am emergency mission and as her request, she would document everything. As the sun shone over their group, a particular ray of light illuminated the subtle smile that rested on a usually monotoned face. His lips curled at the edges with eyes that looked happily at the ocean but showed they weren't registering the view infront of them, rather reminiscing over an even more beautiful moment. Deft hands smoothed lotion over his back where a similar expression was plastered on the man behind as he focused intensely on ensuring the milky skin under his hands wouldn't be at risk of burning. That moment was captured forever with Jirou's camera. She looked back at the image and thought to herself 'he can use this for the proposal'.
Unbeknownst to the dual-haired man, that night, after their beach BBQ, his boyfriend would ask a very important question. The silver band with a small engraving lay in his shirt pocket ready to slide onto Shoto's finger.
