Chapter Text
Dazai was fourteen when he realized that fourteen is obviously his cursed omen number. It had been his suicide attempt, not that Dazai didn't want to live; he just didn't have a reason, and being alive meant being human, and that never felt right. He figured that out at 14 as well.
But that's not the point. The Point is that he is the universe's favorite chew toy. His life is an utter mess of chaos, and he swears the universe itself is laughing at him, or maybe that's just Clockwork. He is fourteen when he meets Mori and is dragged into the mafia, of all things.
And the past is even stranger, because through time fuckery and Clockwork getting a little giggle, he has been 14 three times now.
The first time, he was Danny Fenton, a boy turned ghost, except only half of one.
The second time, he was Tim Drake, Red Robin, A member of the Bats of Gotham.
And now the third time, he is Dazai Osamu, a suicidal teenager, the Black Wraith of the Port Mafia.
And it is such utter bullshit. So yeah, his life is a joke at this point. The only positive thing is that he gets to keep whatever skills he learned in the past lifetimes.
But moving on with it, he settles into the chaos this time brings. And then, in a twist of chaos, he 100% blames Clockwork for, Cujo comes and drags him to Frostbite of all ghosts. And it is revealed to him that Ellie and Dan nearly destabilized, and now their cores need extra support, and unfortunately, he is the only option as the only halfa currently reachable. So at the physical age of 16, he is basically pregnant; he somehow manages to get away with it, and Ellie and Dan are kids again. He sets them up, and with the energy of a squirrel balanced on a strand of spider's silk, he balances being a single parent and in the Mafia.
It only gets worse, and he swears he just wants to bash his skull in. At the age of 18, one of the few people he actually cared about died. And two days before Oda died, Dazai had discovered that he was pregnant. Dazai knows who the father is and how it happened, but now he has a promise to keep and with a baby who very well could be a normal human child, which is much more delicate than a halfa child, so now he can't even safely tell the other parent.
As Dazai has said before, his life is a joke; he is the universal chew toy.
But he is safe using the knowledge he has gained over two lifetimes, and he gets himself a safe place to live and raise the children. With a little emotional blackmail towards Ango, he ends up with a clean record and plans to possibly end up with a nice job in a few years.
It is just before midnight on July 10th, which is the date his babies are born. It was twins, one girl and one boy. He named the girl Iris Orion Dazai, and he named the boy Aspen Opal Dazai, two precious babies that were officially born at 12:30 am on July 11th. Dazai introduced them to Ellie and Dante after he recovered some energy.
The twins were a year old when Ango told him, he worked and coordinated to get Dazai a job interview. So Dazai calls in a few favors to get the kids a babysitter, and he goes to the interview. Dazai himself is 20 when this happens.
When the twins are two years old, Dazai uses a fake identity to take them out to a toddler-friendly animal shelter, which allows young kids to play with the friendlier animals as part of the socialization training. Ellie and Dante are five when this happens.
When Ellie and Dante are six, Dazai is twenty-two, and the twins are three, during this year, Dazai meets a young boy who shows promise and looks like he needs safety.
So here Dazai is, somehow mentoring the boy, with varying levels of success. The young boy named Atsushi needed a bit of help orienting himself at first, so that's what Dazaia did, all while keeping up his usual shenanigans. Dazai runs into Akutagawa again, and man, does he feel a bit guilty about how he treated him. He always was harsher when he knew Mori would be checking, after all, that was what kept Akutagawa safe from Mori’s attentions.
And then Chaos ensues, he gets kidnapped by a small child, well, actually a teenager, but that was not the point. And Dazai wakes up in the Port Mafia basement/dungeon, chained to the wall.
Then he hears him before he sees him, Chuuya. His Chuuya comes down the stairs, talking shit like always and looking even better than he remembered. Chuuya does a bit of his usual song and dance, questioning Dazai, who gives his usual antics in response. And Dazai is incredibly pleased that he practically was able to instantly slot back into Chuuya’s life.
Once Dazai is free, he is swift to return to his hidden home, back to his kids. He gets nice and content in the house, seeing that his kids were happy and doing well, sleeping peacefully.
Chapter Text
The kids convince Dazai to let them go out, and Dazai has them go out with a trusted babysitter while Dazai himself is busy at work.
Chuuya would not normally shop here, but somehow he ended up being ordered to get these items for the boss. Chuuya is simply looking at the list when he feels a tiny body ram into his leg, and he turns around, only to see a small little girl. The little girl has a cinnamon orange colored curls, bright blue eyes, and freckles.
“Uh..Oh,” Says the small child. I’m sorry.. Mister. I wasn't paying attention.” That's what the kid says.
“It's alright, kiddo. Why are you alone?” Chuuya asks as he kneels down
The kid shifts on her feet and looks to the side. “I ran ahead..” She says in a small voice.
“That's not something you should do, kiddo,” Chuuya says.
“Iris! Where are you, kiddo!” A voice calls out, and the kid snaps her head towards the sound of the voice.
A lady runs up, her eyes filled with relief when she spots the kid, whom Chuuya assumes that the kid must be Iris. The woman runs over to the kid.
“Iris, you can't run off like that. You had me worried. I was about to call your Father, I was so worried,” The woman says.
“Sorry, Miss Hana..” Says Iris in a slightly guilty tone.
“It's alright, Iris, how about we go back to playing?” The lady- Hana?.. Says to Iris. Another three children stand behind Hana.
“Uh.. Excuse me, may I ask if you are alright, ma’am?” Chuuya asks, because he is slightly concerned about one lady, who can't be more than 28, and he worries about her being alone without assistance with four kids.
“Huh.” Hana looks up. “Yeah, I'm fine. Just worried because usual Iris doesn't run off, and I would hate for my boss, Her Father. To be worried about her going missing.” Hana says.
“Alright, ma’am. Wait.. they all have the same father?” Chuuya says, slightly curious.
“Ah, yeah. Mr.Dazai is a great boss. I've been babysitting his kids since the twins were born,” Hana says casually as she scoops up Iris and takes the slightly older boy's hand and walks away.
Chuuya is left reeling because Dazai? Having kids? That seems impossible to him..Especially with Chuuya being aware that Dazai is trans. And the ages of the kids.. The older two looked to be around 6-7. Daazi would have been 15 or 16 when they were born. And the youngest two look around 3 at the most, would have been born when Dazai was 18-19ish, the year he left the Port Mafia. And suddenly Chuuya is struck by how much the youngest two looked like him, and that Night, a few weeks before Dazai left.
Meanwhile, Dazai is finishing up work and going to pick up his kids. Dazai greets Hana as he picks up Iris and Aspen, who are both exhausted. He gets the twins into their car seats and then helps Ellie and Dante into their booster seats. He drives home and gets the kids inside. The twins are still asleep, so he puts them down in their cots. He then makes snack plates for Ellie and Dante. Ellie rambles on and on about their day with Hana, as Dazai starts prepping dinner.
Dazai had actually gotten good at cooking over his time as Tim and this lifetime, and it helps that he can still duplicate himself so he can do multiple things at once. One duplicate is playing with Dante while Ellie colors, another duplicate is upstairs folding laundry and keeping an eye on he twins, and then he himself is downstairs in the kitchen making dinner.
Chuuya returned to his apartment and his slightly spiraling as he considered the implications of what he saw earlier in the day. He also looks into figuring out where Dazai lives so he can confront him over this, because he doesn’t want to do this in front of the agency, which just feels too rude, and if Chuuya is wrong, it would be horribly embarrassing.
It takes Chuuya exactly two days, and he sends someone to tail Dazai and a second person to tail the kids, but Chuuya finds out where Dazai lives. It is a moderate-sized house in a secluded neighborhood, with a large fenced-in yard and what looks to be a garden. It takes another Day for Chuuya to work up the courage to actually go and knock on the door.
Dazai has the day off since it is a weekend. Dazai is making pancakes for Ellie and Dante, and is making warm oatmeal for Iris and Aspen. Aspen’s oatmeal has maple syrup, cinnamon, and chocolate chips into his oatmeal. Iris’s oatmeal has mashed strawberries and honey in it. Dante gets blueberry pancakes, and Ellie gets chocolate chip pancakes. Dazai himself is eating plain greek yogurt, with honey, granola, and cut strawberries as his breakfast. Dazai had just plated the pancakes when he heard a knock on the door. He puts down his spatula and turns off the stove, then he walks toward the door.
Dazai opens the door and is very surprised to see Chuuya. Chuuya, who is dressed in a pressed wine red button-up shirt, black dress slacks, shiny black dress shoes, and his usual coat over his shoulders, his black leather gloves on, and his hat perfectly perched on his elegantly messy ginger-red hair. One of his hands is behind his back, but Dazai can see what looks like peach blossoms.
Dazai himself is dressed in a black sleeveless turtleneck, dark grey shorts, white alpaca wool socks, a dark blue apron, and his hair slightly messy. After all, he is having a lazy day with his kids.
“Chuuya? What are you doing here..?” Dazai says, baffled.
“Dazai. Can I come in? We need to talk,” Chuuya says, his voice sounding like a knife wrapped in velvet.
“I suppose you can,” Dazai says, stepping to the side.
“Delightful,” Chuuya draws. “I thought it would be polite to bring a gift,” Chuuya says as he offers the bouquet of peach blossoms.
“They’re lovely. Peach blossoms are actually my favorite,” Dazai says as he takes the flowers.
Dazai leads Chhua to the living room, where Chuuya takes a chair. Dazai sits in just the right spot so he can keep an eye and ear on the kids.
“So..? Why did you seek me out?” Dazai asks, while looking at Chuuya.
“I know about the kids. I just wanted to confirm, are they mine?” Chuuya asks seriously.
“I-I.. the twins.. Yes,” Dazai says, clearly caught off guard
“And the other two? Do you still talk to the father?” Chuuya asks with a glint in his eyes.
“No,” Dazai says firmly, his mind flashing back to Vlad, and how he would rather gut him than ever talk to him again.
Chuuya seems almost pleased and satisfied at this. “Oh? Can I ask why?” Chuuya says, his eyes glinting darkly.
“I don't get along with him,” Dazai says, and it is evident from the disdain in Dazai’s voice.
“Mm. Moving on, then, may I meet the children? I want to be in their lives, I can't stand the idea of missing any more time with them.” Chuuya says.
“You can,” Dazai says.
Dazai goes into the kitchen and brings the kids in, all four of them. Dazai introduces each child.
“Ellie is six, so is Dante,” Dazai says as he gestures to the two. Dante has black hair and bright ice blue eyes. Ellie has dark brown hair and turquoise eyes that are more green than blue.
“And these two are the twins. Aspen and Iris,” Dazai says as he introduces them. Iris has cinnamon ginger curls and bright blue eyes. Aspen has one caramel brown eye and one ocean blue eye; his hair is brownish-red.
“Kids, this is Chuuya, Aspen, and Iris’s other father,” Dazai says, introducing Chuuya.
“Hey kiddos, you can call me Chuuya, or for Aspen and Iris, you can call me dad if you want,”
Chuuya says, his voice soft and almost awed as he looks at the kids.
Chapter 3
Notes:
This is rather skiping in timeline. Because I am writing this more like a slice of life. Right now I am trying to get the background established so I can write more focused on Jjust Soukoku with less background lore.
Chapter Text
(Danny- Tim- Red Robin) Dazai doesn't know how exactly he got here. Well, he knows what events led up to this, but he can't comprehend how those actions ultimately resulted in him being in this exact situation.
It had been a stressful week for him. All the events involving Atsushi, Kyoka, and the kidnapping. And reuniting with Him. And all Dazai had wanted to do was curl up with his kids and not come out for a week; unfortunately, he had work, and the kids had school/daycare. So he waited it out until the weekend. It had been a normal morning, him making breakfast and having a nice, slow day. And then there was a knock, and he opened the door to find Chuuya. Chuuya, who knew about the twins, who knew where he lived, who was on his front steps.
So he let Chuuya in and let him meet the kids. And the kids took to him fast, like really fast. The twins are asking all sorts of questions, and Ellie and Dante are testing how much he will let them get away with. All the usual kid things.
And before Dazai had even realised it had been two weeks, Chuuya was over almost constantly, practically daily. Dazai had thought Chuuya was still mad at him, but apparently not, since he seems to be slotting himself right into Dazai’s life once more.
Chuuya is around all the time, eating meals with them, and convincing Dazai to take time off work. Chuuya plays with the kids, and Dazai’s heart melts every time. Ellie and Dante call Chuuya Dad, Aspen and Iris call Chuuya Dada, and Dazai is always called Baba or Papa. Chuuya being around just feels natural, so natural that Dazai slipped up early on and accidentally used ghost powers around him. But Chuuya accepted it in stride. And obviously, the kids used their powers; Dazai would never force his babies to hide themselves in their own home. Dazai has never felt this right in this lifetime, but with Chuuya around and the kids, he feels like everything is perfect.
Chuuya has been acting more out of character than normal. Well, he was always off. But it's normally more toned down, and Dazai is equally as obsessive and strange. Actually, Arahabaki was equally as odd towards Dazai, not that he wasn’t equally as drawn to Arahabaki, because Dazai was. Although Dazai could sense Arahabaki due to Phantom, perhaps Arahabaki could sense Phantom.
Chuuya insisted on things that Dazai logically knows most find creepy, but they were all things he could understand. He often did it as Tim, and as Danny, his instincts demand similar behavior from him. But Dazai’s only condition was that he got to do it right back. So if Chuuya wanted to put a tracker or two on Dazai and the kids, then Dazai got to put one on Chuuya. If Chuuya wanted a camera in Dazai’s house, then Dazai got to put one in Chuuya’s. That was the type of exchange Dazai said was necessary for him to agree to anything. Chuuya agreed to the condition, and it was smooth sailing.
Chuuya started with small requests, trackers in clothes, and phones. So Dazi said he wants the same thing. The weirdest one was Chuuya requesting Dazai get a tracker embedded under the skin. Dazai still agreed to it, but didn’t request Chuuya also get one, not feeling a need to. Dazai can tell how Chuuya seems to catalog all sorts of things about Dazai. Chuuya also asked to make changes to the house, and Dazai okayed it.
The only part of the house Dazai refused to let Chuuya see is a hidden part of the garden; it's too private since it is the family graves. Dazai doesn't think Chuuya would understand the desire to have a grave as a ghost, so Dazai made sure his kids had graves like they wanted, in a place hidden from all human activity.
Dazai has a hard time getting comfortable and relating to people. In the ADA, the ones he is closest to are Yosano and Ranpo, but they don't truly get it; Dazai is too different. He doesn't get the rigid human morals; it's not his style, it's not him. Chuuya is one of the few he actually relates to, because it has always felt like Chuuya understood. To Dazai, it always felt like Chuuya saw him and understood that hollow and aching part of him, with its gaping maw desiring affection.
So now here Dazai is curled up on the couch with Chuuya, Ellie, and Dante, conked out on a large reclining chair. Aspen asleep on Chuuya’s chest, Iris asleep tucked against Dazai’s side. As far as Dazai can tell, Chuuya seems to be dozing with his head on Dazai’s shoulder. Dazai himself can't ever remember feeling this content in this lifetime. His core feels buzzy and content, so Dazai chooses just to give in to it and close his eyes.
Dazai is aware that many of Chuuya’s recent behaviors would be considered manipulative and isolating, even controlling and obsessive. Unfortunately for the general public, Dazai just finds it flattering; it doesn’t help that Dazai’s instincts make him equally obsessed over those he genuinely likes, and he quite likes Chuuya. Plus, since Chuuya obviously doesn't mind, Dazai feels content as ever. Now Dazai isn’t sure how this situation got to this stage so fast, but he can't bring himself to care because he feels like he is floating on cloud nine.
Time continues on, and Dazai easily settles into this newer routine. Part of Dazai is hurt that the rest of his coworkers seem uncensored with how little they see of him. After all, Dazai has been spending as little time with the agency members as possible because Dazai has been at home with his kids and working out his relationship with Chuuya. Dazai has been slightly hesitant as to what the boundaries with Chuuya are, but Chuuya has been very forthcoming in helping Dazai get a feel for what this relationship entails. Dazai definitely enjoys having clear guidelines and boundaries with this relationship, even if they don't follow the traditional social standards.
Dazai notices how good Chuuya is with the kids, often finding himself watching them with a dopey smile. He finds it utterly endearing watching Chuuya play with the kids, or even bake and cook. Dazai often finds himself thinking about how good a dad Chuuya is; it is a thought that crosses his mind often these days. With how his life has changed, Chuuya has learned new things about Dazai, since Dazai refused to hide himself in his own house, just as he refuses to make his kids house themselves. So the kids shift between forms, use their powers all the time, and Dazai does the same. Sure, Chuuya was caught off guard at first, but he accepted it pretty quickly as far as Dazai can tell.
Dazai, after quite some time he ended up leaving the ADA. After all, he didn’t really need a job to begin with. And Chuuya made very convincing arguments as to why he should quit, and Dazai had to agree. So now he spends more of his time with the kids or more time indulging in his hobbies. He even had the chance to go on a few dates with Chuuya. And sure, Dazai doesn’t get out much, but he is fine with that, more than content to just spend time with loved ones.
Over time, Dazai has grown used to the frequent surveillance from Chuuya, or Chuuya randomly popping up in places where Dazai is. But Dazai is content, pleasantly enjoying the quiet turn his life has taken; he feels less stressed, and he has more time.
