Looking down at her vibrating phone, UNIT Chief, Kate Lethbridge-Stewart groans at the unknown number.
“Aren’t you going to answer that,” asks her friend Melanie Bush.
“It’s an unknown number and we have to get to a meeting,” Kate and Mel enter the board room, her eyes meet Chris’ they share a smile as Kate takes her spot next to her partner.
“Shirley, you called today's meeting.” Kate relaxes as her phone vibrates again. She sends the call to voicemail.

A woman runs into a hospital, “John-Nathan Jovanka,” she says the name.
“Relationship.”
“I am his mother.”
“I’ll call the doctor,” the woman says. The worried mother starts to pace and texts her friend that she is at the hospital and her son is somewhere around. A doctor comes up behind her, “Ms Jovanka?”
“That’s me, where is my son?”
“He’s stable, the person he was with though, we are trying to get into contact with his next of kin.”
“Who is it?”
“We can’t give that out.”
“Please, we run in a tight circle of friends.”
“AN Gordon Lethbridge.”
“Stewart.” Tegan finishes, “I know his mum. She is probably in meetings. She works for UNIT.”
“I see, is there anyone we can call.”
“His sister is not in the country right now. I’ll contact some people at UNIT that I know and tell them to tell Kate to check her phone.” Tegan slowly follows the doctor through the halls to her son’s room. She looks over his pale skin, red hair, wishing she had support of the only person she had ever truly loved. She sits down. “Oh Johnny Boy, what did you get yourself up to? Kate worked so hard to keep her babies safe and away from UNIT after he was kidnapped as a toddler. I also tried to keep you away from the life I met Nyssa with.” She takes out her phone texting Ace to tell Mel to tell Kate to check her messages.

One hour later, “Kate, you need to check your phone.”
“Why?”
“Ace sent me about 20 text messages telling me that you need to.” Mel informs her friend and boss as they get off the lift. Kate takes her phone out and sees she has nearly 100 missed calls from the same number, sighing she calls the number back entering her office.
A few minutes later she comes running out slinging her bag over her shoulder. “Kate,” Chris calls her name, worried.
“Can’t, Gordy,” she holds back tears.
“Kate,” Chris calls after again as she presses the button to head down to the main floor.
“You stay, work with Shirley.”
….
“Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart room, I am his mother,” Kate blurts out between composed tears. She gets shown to an empty room, finding an empty chair she slumps down.
“Kate,” a soft voice says her name.
Looking up Kate sees one person she knows, “Tegan what are you doing here?”
“My son is also here, next door actually. Our sons were together, the doctors aren’t sure what happened yet. Want me to go and see if we can have a doctor talk to you, give you a few more moments of peace?”
“There isn’t any peace right now. UNIT was about to give someone some peace, but I can’t help now.”
“They will understand. Everyone knows you love your children and when they need you you would even tell the Doctor no. I would too.” They are interrupted by a knock.
“Ms. Lethbridge-Stewart, Ms. Jovanka we have updates,” an orderly says.
“Please.”
“Umm.”
“We are a family of sorts, Kate can know what my son is going through.”
“I will need support, so Tegan can know too.”
“It was some sort of accident, Mr. Jovanka should wake up any moment. Mr. Lethbridge-Stewart on the other hand needed surgery and will be up here soon for recovery. When one of them wakes up, the police will want to talk to them.”
“Why,” asks Kate, “if it was an accident.”
“Both have unusual marks on their arms.”
“I work with UNIT and Tegan on occasion also has, we deal with the unusual.”
“Then you might want to call some of the people you work with.”
“She doesn’t need to, most of us are here,” a man’s voice says. “Mel, Shirley, Rose, Ruby, Ace, Graham, Yaz are in the waiting area. They all agreed that it should be me as I am.”
“Who are you,” asks the doctor.
“Kate’s partner.”
“But the sighting.” Kate tries to keep what it was under tight lips.
“We were right.”
“We were,” Kate’s eyes dart to Tegan.
“Yes, first though,” Chris comes up to Kate’s chair and makes her stand and wraps his arms tightly around her. “Tegan, you may want to go to John-Nathan's room.” Tegan leaves them. “She’s in the room, Nyssa tells us she got into John’s phone, calling 999. She has her kids stay at UNIT while the Osgoods make sure that two people that have never been to earth can survive here.”
“Wait, my son.”
“Wanted one of your friends happy. Shirley told us on the way after Mel explained that both Gordy and John-Nathan were here that they were her contact. Seems you can’t keep Lethbridge-Stewarts away from helping UNIT.” Kate buries her head into Chris’ shoulder, allowing more tears to fall.
…
“Nyssa,” Tegan stands, shocked, seeing the woman she hasn’t seen apart from her dreams in 4 decades.
“He looks like he could be our son.”
“He does, my eyes and your hair.”
“My two can’t wait to meet you and get to know the person they have been talking to for over a year.”
“What?”
“Our kids somehow found each other across galaxies and knew we were longing for each other. The other boy?”
“Bridger Lethbridge-Stewart’s grandson. His mom and her boyfriend are waiting for him to get back to the room.” Tegan looks from her son to the woman that stole her heart decades ago. “Wait, your two?”
“I have one boy and one girl, Adric and Neeka.” Nyssa moves away from the bed and closer to Tegan. “Growing up I told them about an air hostess turned fighter as a bedtime story.”
“I told John-Nathan about the space princess who lost her home only to find two more.” Tegan blinks away tears as Nyssa brings them together in a tight hug.
….
“I can’t have anything happen to my kids,” Kate tells Chris as he moves them to the chair.
“I know. The doctors will fix him up, you have to believe that.”
“I don’t know.” A bed gets brought in, a long body on it.
“Mummy and Hotrod.” A voice says.
“Gordy,” Kate gets off of Chris.
“JN and I got more companions for you.”
“I heard, JN is next door.”
“Good, he got hit before me.”
“Hit.”
“The patient needs to sleep.” Kate glares at the woman setting Gordy up to be comfortable.
…
“Nyssa, what happened? I didn’t think when I got you back it would be this bittersweet.”
“We didn’t know that we had some unfriendlies on our ship. UNIT soldiers are out there right now. Except for one.”
“Chris, yeah we know him. Him and Kate ever since the Rani came back have been inseparable. Even Mel got her people?”
“People?”
“Yes, she’s in a poly relationship with my friend Ace and her husband Graham. Now I have you. My two marriages failed and UNIT helped me adopt JN.”
“You were married twice?”
“I was, Ace tells me they failed because I am a lesbian that was deep in denial and in love with you. Which is true. It took until the Mara visited me in my dreams again to admit it.”
“What! The Mara.”
“Don’t worry, I went to UNIT in Australia who got in contact with not only Kate but the Doctor that is stuck here gave me a checkup. It’s gone again and they tell me it’s for good. The Mara told me you were my deepest desire, and it’s true you are.” Tegan leans her head against Nyssa’s.
“Mum,” Tegan turns away from Nyssa.
“My lovely boy, you did an amazing thing today, but got hurt in the process?”
“How’s Gordy,” he croaks.
“Last I heard was in surgery. You got that big family you always wanted.”
“Ace.”
“You have spent too much time with your Aunt.”
“Aunt?” Nyssa asks, “I thought you only had brothers?”
“She’s my closest friend. JN has called her his aunt since he was a little boy. Ace traveled with the 7th regeneration of the Doctor, Mel, her partner traveled the 6th and 7th. Graham, Ace’s husband, numbering is off I hear, but some say 13th. They met through her.”
“Her?”
“Yeah, Graham’s Doctor was a woman. I met her too. Mel met the most recent two, Kate has met most of them, and ones she didn't know her father has.”
“Where is Kate,” asks Nyssa.
“Next door.”
“I’m going to go see her give you and your son a moment.” Nyssa runs her hand over Tegan’s cheek, “I will never leave you again.” She says before exiting the room and heading to the room next door. The scene in front of her is Kate and Chris sharing a kiss while Gordy is asleep in the bed.
