After Luca and Shu calmed down their laughter, Luca suddenly panicked a bit as he quickly realized Ike may connect the dots together. After all… the Swede had literally just saw Luca and Shu kissing pretty hard, not even just a soft kiss. Though Shu blamed Luca for that since the mafia heir could get so needy sometimes. It was cute, though so the ravenette gave the blonde a pass in that department.
The blonde looked at the ravenette, a worried expression on his face. “What do we do now…?” he muttered.
Shu thought about it a moment. He looked around the empty classroom before gently pushing himself off Luca. “I don’t know.” He muttered, running a hand through his hair, still trying to get over how nice the kiss had been. Luca had been a little rough, granted, but again, Shu couldn’t blame him.
“Well… I think we may as well tell the others.” Luca sighed, pushing himself away from the desk. “That way at least, they’re hearing it from us directly rather than rumors.” He pointed out, brushing some of his longer bangs out of his face.
“I meant I doubt Ike would say anything but… I’d rather not risk it.”
Shu nodded gently in agreement, crossing his arms. “It’s the right thing to do anyways.” He agreed. But a frown pulled at the corners of his mouth as he looked outside at the partly cloudy sky, watching the fluffy balls of condensation in the air drift slowly by. “I’m just… kind of sad we can’t keep it a secret anymore.”
Luca looked at Shu, tilting his head slightly and raising an eyebrow. “What do you mean?” He asked, walking over to stand next to his boyfriend. “I thought you’d be ecstatic you don’t have to lie anymore.” He half-jokes, slightly elbowing Shu’s arm with a playful smirk.
“I mean,” Shu hesitated a second, glancing at Luca and unable to help the faint smile that came to his lips at the joke, gently reaching over and intertwining his finger’s with the blonde’s. “I don’t know, the secrecy of it was kind of fun.” He shrugged.
“Even though I suck at lying.” He added sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.
Luca smiled faintly, nodding. “I know what you mean.” He sighed. “Like… I still remember the time they almost caught us in the sports equipment shed,”
Luca thought back to the scenario, a small blush creeping up his cheeks as he remembered it all… and how Shu had kissed him on accident.
“That… was eventful.” Luca muttered after a second, trying not to let it show how embarrassing that had been but unable to help the slight blush on his face. “The day I technically confessed to you all because you accidentally kissed me.”
The coach finished explaining the plan for the day’s PE class before looking back at a certain blonde and ravenette, narrowing his eyes as he crossed his arms. “Kaneshiro. Yamino.” He said their names sternly as the other students walked off to get ready for stuff.
Luca and Shu looked away from one another and up at the coach, who looked unhappy with them, both boys stiffening up a bit. “Yes sir?” Luca responded, rubbing the back of his neck in nervousness.
The coach sighed. “Since you two wanted to talk in the back the entire time I was explaining, go do me a favor and get the volleyball net out of the storage shed and set it up.” He instructed. “Now.”
Shu winced a bit but nodded along with Luca, both giving an apology before turning around, the two boys walking down the dirt pathway towards the shed at the back of the field. “I told you we could talk about it later.” He sighed, looking over at Luca, a slight hint of disappointment in his tone. “You got us in trouble.” He added, unable to help the faint smile before gently shoving Luca’s shoulder.
The blonde laughed softly, stumbling a bit at the shove but recovering quickly thanks to his good sense of balance. “Never been scolded by a teacher, goody-two-shu?” He teased Shu with small smile, using the dumb nickname he’d made up for the ravenette.
Shu rolled his eyes at his friend’s antics, sighing. “You’re so stupid.” He couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped his lips. “And no, I haven’t. Because I’m not constantly being a menace to society and my classmates unlike a certain someone.”
Him and Luca had been best friends for… well, quite a while now, almost half a whole year. They met just this year, which was their last year of middle school, and had been close since. Though, Shu ended up always having to bail Luca out of trouble. But he didn’t mind, he’d gotten used to it since half the times it was because Luca was overly excited and talking over a teacher which honestly Shu felt was a bit unfair. The guy just had a lot to say, who could blame him?
They reached the shed, Luca opening up the door. It was dark and musty inside, both standing there at the entrance. Shu frowned a bit, not liking the idea of going in. “Do they ever clean this place?” Luca voiced Shu’s inner thoughts, crossing his arms. “You would think the coach or staff would at least keep it clean for students. Geez.”
Shu chuckled faintly. “Well… to be fair, it probably hasn’t seen the light of day in a while, with how cold it’s been these last few months. No one really has practices outside.” He pointed out, hesitantly stepping into the shed as well.
“Anyways. Let’s just grab the net and an extra ball or two.” He added, carefully stepping over some of the mats and track and field equipment that was on the floor, going over to the corner where there was a box on top of some stacked mats that was labeled ‘volleyball’.
Luca hesitated too. “I’d rather eat fish than be in here.” He half-pouted, before stepping in himself, closing the door about halfway so no bugs would get in.
The two opened up the slightly dusty box, Luca taking out the net and Shu grabbing some of the extra pieces he knew helped fasten the net to the poles. As they were grabbing stuff, Luca suddenly spoke up. “Hey… I wanted to ask you something kind of weirdge.”
Shu looked up, raising an eyebrow. He always thought the way Luca said certain words like he was some kind of streamer was cute. Though, he’d never admit that out loud. “What’s up?” He responded after a second, looking right into the blonde’s eyes.
Luca hesitated for a second as Shu stared at him. Those amethyst eyes…. He could never explain it, but it felt almost other-worldly, like the eyes belonged to a magical being and not the pretty ravenette standing in front of him. But it was one of his favorite features about Shu, and he was pretty sure even if he was like some type sorcerer or something, he’d love him regardless. In every universe.
“Let’s say, hypothetically, a guy liked you and asked you out.” Luca started off, deciding to just rip the band-aid already. “Hypothetically, of course.” He quickly added with a nervous laugh.
Shu wasn’t sure where this was going, but far be it from him to question his best friend. So, he simply nodded and made a small hum of acknowledgment to let the other male know he was listening.
Luca then continued, feeling more self-aware than he ever had in his life. “And let’s say, hypothetically, this person was really close to you. And… has had a crush on you for a while.” He paused, watching the ravenette’s expression change from complacent to surprised, as if he realized this hypothetical question wasn’t exactly so hypothetical. “Hypothetically… what would you say to them…?”
Shu blinked once. Twice. Maybe a third time? It was honestly hard to remember. All he remembered in that moment though was his best friend’s eyes looked like they were about to shed tears, and his face was slightly flushed. He’d never seen Luca looked so embarrassed before.
Suddenly, Shu noticed a small baby grasshopper next to Luca that was crawling on his sleeve. He frowned. He knew the latter didn’t really like bugs. He flamed back at his best friend as he spoke. “Uh… Luca, don’t move.” He said as he raised a hand, poising his fingers to flick it off.
“What- why?” Luca asked, feeling panicked at Shu’s suddenly serious tone, taking a slight step backwards in worry.
The ravenette shook his head. “Just stay still, don’t look.” He said again. Luca obeyed and stopped moving, thankfully.
He reached over to flick it, but in the process, Luca couldn’t help but look down, being far too curious for his own good. As he saw the grasshopper, it suddenly jumped at his face.
Luca genuinely screamed, stumbling backwards and was about to fall on to the hard concrete floor of the shed. Shu reacted quickly, “Luca!” He reached out to grab Luca, but ended up tripping over something on the floor himself. Thankfully though, he spun both him and Luca off to the side, towards the mats, and both fell onto their sides on the one mat that was on the floor.
They both were lying next to each other, slightly panting from the small bit of panic, Luca having panicked at the bug and Shu the fall. Now, they were just trying to get themselves to calm down.
Shu closed his eyes, sighing softly. After a moment of catching his breath, he spoke up again in a hushed voice. “Please be more careful.” He muttered quietly as he opened his eyes, looking over at Luca with a small frown. “You could have got badly hurt.”
Luca looked over, laughing nervously and rubbing his neck. “S-sorry,” He apologized. “The grasshopper freaking jumped at me! Did you see that?!” He added, sounding still a bit panicked as he shuddered at the memory of the bug literally ‘attacking’ him.
Shu chuckled faintly, shaking his head at the others words. “I can’t believe you got that scared by a little baby grasshopper, though.” He teased, pushing himself up to sit, his hands behind him, offering a hand to Luca.
Luca took Shu’s hand, sitting up as well, looking at Shu with a slight pout. “I told you I don’t like bugs, didn’t I?” He reminded, brushing off his clothes since there was a bit of dust on them.
Shu shook his head. “I know but a grasshopper? Those things are harmless.” He pointed out, brushing off the dust off himself too.
Luca then pushed himself to stand up, offering a hand to Shu to help him as a return of favor for the other male helping him a second ago. “In Australia, those things are terrifying. That’s all I’m saying.” He sighed. Shu took his hand, letting the blonde pull him to his feet.
As Shu got to his feet, Luca spoke up again. “Anyways let’s just hurry and get—”
Suddenly, there was a creak noise, and both boys looked over to the door of the shed, a breeze blowing by outside, and the door clicking shut. Suddenly, it was a bit dark, minus the faint sunlight coming from the one small window at the back of the shed.
“Stupid wind.” Luca muttered, not all too phased but still a bit on edge. He walked over to the door, careful to use the bit of light they had to make sure he didn’t trip over anything, grabbing onto the handle and trying to push the sliding door open… but it wouldn’t budge.
“Uh oh.”
Shu stiffened a bit at that statement. “What do you mean by ‘uh oh’…?” He asked, a bit nervous as he stood there, looking at Luca in the dim light. “Did… did the door lock on us?”
Luca frowned, trying again, shaking it harder this time and banging his hand against the wood. “Uh… it would appear we are stuck.” The blonde laughed nervously, looking back at Shu.
“The door won’t open.” He said in a slightly more serous voice, frowning. “I think you’re right, it’s locked.”
Shu walked over, almost tripping but catching himself thankfully. He tried to open the door too, frowning. “You’ve got to be joking.” He muttered, not liking the fact that they’d been locked in a shed in Spring when it was a bit chilly outside. Granted they had long sleeves on, but still.
“And to top it off it’s dark.” Luca sighed, rubbing his arm awkwardly. “So we can’t see well either and all that stuff is on the floor… but I think I remember seeing a little string attached to a light bulb in the middle.
Shu looked around the dim darkened shed, and spotted the shape of what seemed to be a string, as Luca described. He nodded, turning around. “Then let’s see if it works—”
He started to say when Luca suddenly grabbed Shu’s shoulder. “Wait,” the blonde said quickly, looking at the ravenette’s amethyst eyes with concern. “I’m taller, I’ll get it. I don’t want you to trip.” He told Shu, pulling him back slightly away from the middle of the room.
“Just stand here a second.” With that, Luca carefully traversed through the mess of equipment on the floor, trying to get to the middle. Shu watched with a small frown, also a bit worried about Luca tripping, just as much if not more than the other had been worried about Shu tripping.
Suddenly, there was a creak and both boys looked over to see a tall broom handle starting to fall. It wouldn’t have hurt at all to get hit by, at least not severely, but Shu reacted before he could stop himself and think straight. “Luca, move!”
Luca looked over his shoulder, his eyes widened as he saw Shu lunging towards him with an outstretched arm. He glanced over to his right and saw the broom now about to hit Shu, reacting in a similar fashion of panic and quick thinking, reaching forward and grabbing Shu’s outstretched hand.
He pulled the other towards him as he stepped backwards and used his other hand to pull the upper half of Shu’s arm, almost like a rope, Shu crashing into Luca’s chest and the blonde letting out a small exclamation of start as his foot got caught on some basket on the floor and he fell backwards towards the mat. “W-woah!”
Both grunted softly as their bodies hit the one large track and field pole vault mat that was on the floor, next to a stack of smaller ones, Luca landing on his back and Shu on his stomach… except, Shu had still been getting pulled by Luca at the time of the fall, so he fell on his stomach… directly onto Luca’s chest.
Both boys were panting softly, the two a little startled by the turn of events, the broom handle quietly clattering onto the concrete behind Shu. Luca had his arms up, one arm by each side of his head, his blonde hair splayed out over the dusty, dirty pole vault mat. Shu was still laying on top of Luca, his chest rising and falling with each quick and short breath, his longer raven hair resting against Luca’s chest.
After about 3 awkward seconds of heavy breathing, and silence, Luca spoke up first, his voice a little shaky. “You… okay?”
Shu took a second to answer, nodding gently and slightly pushing himself up as he looked down at Luca “I think so.” He sighed, opening his eyes finally but they widened as he noticed the position him and Luca were in.
Luca opened his eyes a second after, except the blonde started blushing profusely, both of their bodies tensing up. Yet… neither said a word about the position. It wasn’t anything crazy… well. Kind of. It was just Shu accidentally straddling one of Luca’s knees, and Luca staring back at him, both of their chests still rising and falling with their soft pants of breath.
Okay, maybe a little crazy.
But there was silence.
Neither was sure how exactly long it lasted… but they just stared up (or in Shu’s case, down) at one another, their hearts pounding.
After a second, Shu shifted slightly. “Sorry, I should move.” He apologized.
But Luca stopped him. He caught Shu’s wrist with his right hand, looking at him with as his cheeks flushed further. “H-hold on.” Luca stuttered out, his voice a bit shaky from nerves.
Shu stopped, looking back down at Luca. Their faces were only maybe three inches from one another, their warm breaths mingling in the cold shed. They stared at each other for a few seconds, Shu relaxing after maybe one second.
Then, Shu’s hand slipped on the mat, and before both boys knew it, Shu had captured Luca’s lips in a kiss… by total accident.
The blonde made a small noise of surprise, but after a second, Shu felt Luca’s hand relax on his wrist, and the blonde’s other hand clench up a bit. Shu leaned into it a little more, kissing Luca with a slightly deeper urgency, unable to help himself.
He held his feelings for so long…
May as well enjoy it, right?
After about 3 seconds, their lips broke apart with a soft mmph noise coming from Shu. And Luca was blushing SOOO hard now. Bro was practically red at this point, and the sight made Shu giggle, the latter covering his face with his hands after a second.
“Shut up,” Luca murmured, a slight pout in his tone as he peeked through fingers and looked at Shu, his face still red. “It’s not funny…”
“So that hypothetical question earlier,” Shu teased as he pushed himself up, putting a hand next to Luca’s head since it was the only close but flat surface he could use. “Was it really hypothetical?”
Luca looked away, feeling conscious as his fingers clenched up as he pulled them away from his face, knowing he couldn’t hide from this but hating it all the same. “Perhaps…” He mumbled softly, voice just barely audible.
Shu smiled gently. “Then, it’ll be our secret.” He said softly, reaching over and gently cupping Luca’s cheek, whist pushing it slightly to get the blonde to look back at him. He tucked a piece of loose hair behind the blonde’s one ear, unable to help himself.
“But… can I ask something?” He questioned after a second, looking into those beautiful lavender eyes.
Luca hesitated before nodding, Shu’s hand falling from the blonde’s face as he propped himself up with both his hands. “What is it?”
Shu thought about it a moment, looking off to the side. “When were you gonna ask?” He inquired, glancing back at the blonde. “I mean… I could kind of tell you had a crush, but I didn’t think this would be the way… you know.”
Luca blushed again, sighing as he shook his head. “I planned on asking you while we were walking home after the first year opening ceremony in a few weeks.” He muttered. “But, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I didn’t really have the courage to do and probably would have put it off...”
Shu smiled faintly with a slight chuckle, and was going to say something else when there was a knock on the shed that made both boys flinch a bit. “Shu? Luca?” Came Vox’s voice on the other end.
“Are you guys okay?” Came Ike’s voice as well, the door starting to open.
Faster than lightning, both Luca and Shu quickly stood up, Shu helping Luca to his feet, the two quickly adding a normal amount of space between them, a look of understanding passing between them: act like nothing had happened.
The door slid open, Mysta having opened the door, Vox and Ike peering in with concerned expressions. Luca chuckled faintly, putting his hands up. “We’re fine guys, don’t worry!” He reassured, then glanced over at Shu. “The broom just fell over as we were grabbing the net. Then the door shut and locked on us.” He half-lied, then looked back to the boys.
Shu nodded, keeping his usual calm demeanor despite the fact his heart was still sort of pounding and he could feel a tingle of the phantom taste of Luca’s lips against his own. “Thankfully you guys noticed though, thought we’d be stuck in here forever.” He chuckled softly to the others, sneaking a glance at Luca.
With that, the two boys, walking a little closer to one another, left the shed, equipment in tow. But the two couldn’t help but smile at one another, glad the feelings were mutual and they don’t have to hide it from one another anymore.
Now they just needed to keep it a secret from the others.
But…
As you can see, that only lasted 3 months into their first year. But the others apparently somehow already knew about the two’s feelings for one another.
That’s a story for another time, though.
END? :3
