Work Text:

It was the middle of school at Sugisawa Municipal High School, and things were pretty boring. Like any other day, classes went on normally.

I look out the window and see something move. It caught my attention. Glancing at the class, a few other students were looking out the window as well, staring at the outside yard. Did they not see it? Turning back to the window, I saw it again. This time, it was clear. A creature was wrapped around the flag pole(that has no flag). My eyes widened a little as I stared at the creature. I've always seen these things, it's nothing new, but I could actually see this one in broad daylight. The creature was like a worm, colored green and purple. The mouth of the thing was moving, but I couldn't hear it from inside the classroom.

Tearing my eyes away from the window, I glance at the other students gazing out the window. They seemed fine, nobody else saw it. Unless they did and this was normal for them as well.

Slumping my shoulders, I turned all of my attention back to the professor, who is giving a lesson on geometry. The rest of the class period, I tried to get the image out of my head, but it wouldn't go away. It's not like seeing this is new. It's just that I've never seen the creature so clear before. The times I looked back to see if it was still there, it wasn't. The creature disappeared.

As soon as I heard the loud bell ring, I grabbed my bag and headed outside to the yard. I wanted to see if the thing was still there, or if it really did disappear.

Reaching outside, I originally thought the yard would be empty, however, there is a whole crowd. The track and gym coach was getting ready to throw a ball. Is it a contest?

The ball that the coach threw landed fourteen meters away. That's what the helper student said. He looked very proud of himself. Placing myself into the crowd, I watched the contest. Just as I wondered who the coach was going up against, that someone stepped up. The familiar face was Itadori! Everyone at the school knows him, he's friendly and helpful. Me and Itadori had been partnered up a few times, for class projects. To me, I think he will win. While we were chatting once, I asked why he doesn't play sports if he's strong and fast. Itadori just responded that he isn't very athletic, and he doesn't know how he's super strong or fast. People had said that he can run multiple blocks in a short time.

I watched him throw the ball. It didn't look like he put much effort into it. However, the ball went way further than the coach's and it crashed into the soccer goal, creating a large dent.

"Uh- about thirty meters, I guess."

That's further than the actual length, but I guess it doesn't matter. It was obvious from the start that Itadori would beat the coach. A few people in the crowd cheered and clapped while the other were flabbergasted, shocked even. The coach's eyes looked like they were about to pop would of his skull.

Itadori walked back to his two friends and started talking with him, while some of the students took photos with the coach, who wasn't moving and his jaw was dropped. I couldn't hear what he was saying, but it wasn't much of my business anyway. Deciding to glance around for that creature again, I didn't see it at all. However, I saw someone whom I didn't recognize. He had dark spiky hair, and wore a white blouse. He's handsome, but I know that he doesn't go to the school. Why is he here then? I wanted to go up to him, but he looks unapproachable, his gaze looks cold and nonchalant.

I glanced back around and saw that Itadori was about to head off. He grabbed his bag and hastily ran off. Just as he passed the handsome boy, his face contorted into something else. Shock? Fear? No. It's like a mix of everything. Maybe he sensed something. I mean- If the aura is on Itadori, I can kinda feel it too. Like a dark energy surrounding him, but it's faint. Does he feel it too? Could this boy see those creatures as well?

"Hey, hold it!" The boy exclaimed. His voice held urgency in it.

However, Itadori dashed away, down the stairs and exited the school gates. The blue-haired boy chased down the stairs before he stopped and left the chase alone. Leaving the school yard, I walked down the few steps before I heard somebody call out to me.

     "Hey."

It was the voice of that boy again, but this time his voice was calmer and composed. I turned my head to look at him. His face was back to normal, he almost looked irritated or annoyed. Seeing him up close gave me the chance look at his features. Eyes were deep blue, reminding me of the ocean. His hair was either a very dark shade of blue or black, I couldn't tell. For a moment, I forgot to respond. That was until I realized I must look like I'm just checking him out. Dragging myself out of my thoughts, I responded, my voice calm as well.

"Hm? What do you need, sir?"

"The pink-haired kid, do you know where he went?"

How am I supposed to know where Itadori went? I don't want to be rude, but I also don't want to not give him an answer. So, I rummaged through my mind, trying to remember if Itadori said anything about where he would go after school, other than home. At first, I had nothing; and then I remembered. Itadori once told me that his grandfather was in the hospital, I don't think he told me why he was there though. Maybe he went there? I obviously don't know where he lives, but maybe he's there. There is only one hospital around, to It won't be hard to find it.

"There's a chance he may be heading to the hospital. I heard his grandfather is there."

The boy nodded, his expression lifted a little bit. If I wasn't paying attention, I wouldn't have seen it. It was like a look of relief. Who knows why he's looking for Itadori, but I'm sure i'll figure it out eventually.

"I appreciate it. My names Megumi Fushiguro. I have a feeling we'll be meeting again."

Meeting again? I won't complain about that. At least I learned his name. Fushiguro? It fits him. I quickly spoke my name as well, Y/N. He, once again, nodded and started to walk off in the direction Itadori set off in. He didn't look back at all, I did once.

It was now late at night and I had gotten home a long while ago. The sky was dark and the stars glowed like tiny lights. I wanted to fall asleep but for some reason, I couldn't. I've never had sleeping problems, so I don't know why I

m unable to rest.

Instead of lying there and doing nothing but staring at the ceiling, I stood up out of my comfortable bed and slipping on a jacket. I cautiously and quietly walked through the house, to not wake my family, then opened the front door and carefully closed it behind me. Closing the door behind me, I started to walk down the sidewalk. I don't really know where I'm going, but maybe my feet will take me where I need to be. Walking out of my neighborhood and into the city, I didn't stop once. Soon enough, I could see a building in the distance. It was the school.

Looking at the school, it had an aura surrounding it. I was still a little ways away, so I can't see the building fully. Once I walked closer, I saw that the school was covered in a black and purple looking flame. I have seen these before when I used to walk around at night. The energy was flowing out of the windows and it looked straight out of a horror movie. I have went inside of one of these places one, it was an old graveyard. There were creatures lying everywhere, but they didn't do anything but make odd sounds. I never knew what to call those things, so I just call them creatures until I find out their real name, If I ever do. I knew that I should've left, but the curiosity got the better of me. As I got closer, I saw a flash of yellow.

My eyes darted over to the bright color and saw someone. Itadori? What's he doing here? His hands were resting on the bars of the closed school gate and his head was down. After a moment of just staring at him, I chose to approach him. However, when I took a step, his head snapped up and he jumped over the gate, running into the school.

I thought I was seen when his head popped up. Luckily, I wasn't seen. I don't know how I would've explained why I'm here. Wait a second- can Itadori see the energy and creatures too? I started to think that I'm going crazy.

Thinking for a moment, I believed it would be best if I were to follow him. Without giving myself another chance to second guess myself, I moved forward and climbed over the gate, walking into the school.

The energy was much thicker inside here than the other places I've been to. I almost immediately got a headache from the pressure against my head. It felt like I couldn't breathe in all the way. Something definitely isn't right. Walking through the hallways, I saw a few of the small creatures. They mumbled random things that I couldn't comprehend. Those things didn't attempt to attack me or even move, they just stayed on the ceiling, wall, or doors. Moving along, I followed the trail of creatures. The further I walked, the more pressure and energy I felt.

Before turning a corner, I felt words. The voices were muffled, and I followed to where they lead. As I got closer to the voices, they started to sound familiar. Stopping at a corner, I could tell that the two people were right around this corner. I recognized one of the voices as Itadori, which wasn't super surprising as I saw him go inside the building. The other was familiar as well, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Suddenly, the voices stopped. It was quiet enough that I could hear a pin drop.

"I sense Cursed Energy, somebody is here."

Cursed Energy? what's that? For a moment, my mind pondered on what Cursed Energy would be. But then, the words settled in. Is the person talking about me? Before I could even move, someone was already in front of me.

It was Fushiguro! That's why it sounded familiar.

Only then did I realize that his hand was on my arm, and that his grip was strong, it kinda hurt.

     "Whoa! It's me, Fushiguro."

He looked at me for a few seconds before letting out a grumble.

     "Y/N. Why are you here?"

Pausing for a moment, I saw that Itadori isn't here anymore. Maybe he went looking for something. Looking back at Fushiguro, I responded."

"Uhm- I saw the school building covered in some sort of energy, so I came to see what it was." I purposely left out the other parts.

The way his face looked, I could say he was slightly confused.

"You can see it too? Do you see curses as well?"

"Curses? If you're talking about those creature things, then yeah, I can see them."

Fushiguro looked away and the looked back at me. I'm not exactly sure what he's thinking about, his expression isn't revealing anything. His mouth opened, but right before the words came out, there was a crashing sound. The loud and sudden crash made me jump back a little. However, he didn't even flinch. What he did do, was turn around and do a hand sign. Two dogs appeared. One black and one white. There was also marks on their heads. A triangle with three circles connecting them;. The dogs were cute, but they were odd, because he just summoned them.

He turned the corner and I followed behind him. The sight was terrifying. A very large creature, or rather a curse had broken through the ceiling and was holding a girl. The curse was gray with several faces attached to the body. I saw the girl and remembered that she is one of Itadori's friends. That must be why he's here. Just as Fushiguro was about to do something, the window shattered and Itadori appeared. I have no clue where he came from, but at least he's here now. He jumped in and grabbed his friend, then jumped off the curse's body, landing onto the ground.

"This must be a curse, not what I was expecting."
