call me by your name—or don't

Tokyo Revengers was a masterpiece created by Ken Wakui.

I did not gain any material profit from this fanfiction.

"Hello." A pause. "Ryuuguuji's speaking."

Had Draken not possessed a remarkable balance, one wrong move and he would end up on the floor. Luckily, one wrong move wasn't too many, when he got great reflex.

"Oh, yes," the voice continued, now accompanied by the rustling sound of paper and scribbling pen. "That's very true. This Friday, yes."

For some reason, Draken was so caught off guard that he didn't think to get off the ladder, and instead, he listened on top of it, a lamp bulb went forgotten on his hand.

"Ah, I see. Of course, I understand."

There were more words exchanged, almost unheard because the speaker had his back on Draken. Until he turned around and Draken could see how the smile and his voice matched like it was just natural for him to act that way, genuinely polite and kind to whoever he was talking to, even if it was on the phone.

"Have a nice day to you too."

Mitsuya smiled for the last time as the call finally ended. He swiped the screen, before he put the phone down and looked up.

"That's the restaurant you book for our weekend getaway," he read through his note. "They said, they have to move our reservation spot to another place due to—"

Draken wouldn't hesitate to say, that he would never know the real reason for their reservation spot being relocated, or where they would get their new spot.

All he could hear was Mitsuya's voice, ringing repeatedly as he told the person on the phone, using his name: Ryuuguuji.

Years and years, yet Draken had just experienced of hearing it for the first time.

They never actually talked about their last name even after they got married. Mitsuya still signed his name with his own last name, and so did Draken. They did hyphenate the mailbox name in their apartment, because well, it had happened since they were living together. It was easier for them to get their mails that way.

Last names hyphenation was common practice after all, even for roommates.

Draken had never thought about this kind of thing, even after they were married, because they are still Ken Ryuuguuji and Takashi Mitsuya they always know.

Nothing had actually changed.

It's always their names.

But hearing Mitsuya using his name like it was his own, Draken wondered why it never occured to him how much he wanted to hear it over and over again.

Mitsuya introduced himself by Draken's name.

Mitsuya let people call him by Draken's name.

Mitsuya incorporated Draken's name in everything: in casual conversation with various people, the signatures in the stacks of formal documents, and other aspects in which Draken wasn't present but his last name would do.

"... and they will also give us the complementary—Ken, did you hear me?"

Draken hadn't even realized he was zoning out, until there was a soft tap on the ladder he was on.

"You haven't changed the lamp bulb," Mitsuya frowned at the item on Draken's hand.

Draken blinked, before he snickered to himself. Very slowly and deliberately, he lifted the new lamp bulb onto the top of his head, a mischievous grin split across his face.

"Taka," he said. "I just had a revelation."

Mitsuya snorted at his antic.

"And what is that, do pray tell?" He entertained the ridiculous act.

Instead of putting on the new light bulb, Draken slid down the ladder.

"I like the idea of you becoming a Ryuuguuji."

Mitsuya rolled his eyes, but a soft, fond smile tugging the corner of his mouth, betrayed the nonchalant facade.

"No, thank you," he turned around. "I have a very potential fashion brand to maintain."

Draken put away the light bulb back in its box, before he caught Mitsuya's arm, pulling the other man towards himself.

"Takashi Ryuuguuji has a nice ring to it," he grinned sheepishly.

Mitsuya didn't look impressed. "Hate to break it to you, but I have a nice ring already."

At the lifted palm, the glint of metal circling one of the fingers only made Draken's grin grow even wider.

"And who's the lucky man?"

Mitsuya had to have a great self-control because he managed to speak in a completely flat tone.

"The man who didn't even change the light bulb when I asked for it."

Draken merely shrugged. Leaning to the back of the sofa, Draken guided Mitsuya to the V-open of his legs as he caged him in the confinement of his hands on Mitsuya's hips.

"Who needs lamps when the light of my life is here?"

"Flatter," Mitsuya scoffed at the corny flirtation.

Yet, he still looped his arms around Draken's shoulder, indulging him. Because it was Draken, and Mitsuya was never resistant to his charm.

"Hello, Mr. Ryuuguuji," Draken threw him a delighted grin.

He could feel Mitsuya played with his messy bun as if he was assessing the situation and considering the best responses. Draken couldn't help himself to lick his lips in anticipation. The assessment quickly transformed into amusement.

Takashi Mitsuya is wonderful, Draken thought, but Takashi Ryuuguuji did feel more possessive—as if Draken wanted him to be his so bad, he had to put his last name behind Mitsuya's first name.

And well, to be honest, Draken wasn't against the idea of doing it the other way around.

Ken Mitsuya seems—

Unfortunately, Mitsuya saw right through him. Of course, he did.

Like always has been.

"If you think, I'm gonna call you, Mr. Mitsuya so that we're even, you're deadly wrong."

Notes:

Cake-san on Twitter proposed Draken's day on September 4th, so here we are.

There's a fanart in the back of my head that inspired this story, but I hadn't be able to recall the fanartist (;ŏ﹏ŏ) will update the A/N if it comes back to me.

Life update: my country is a mess, I'm very stressed about everything, but what's not new is I still love Doramitsu with all my heart.
