Chapter Text

An exhaustive sigh of relief permeated the operating room as the last round of the wounded were on their way to the Post Op. ward. It was almost a dream. Finally the exhausting, gruesome, session had come to an end. But for the exhausted personnel not even the news that the fighting had shifted brought more than faint smiles of gratitude.

"Hell of a job, Hunnicutt." the exhausted newcomer heard...from someone... He couldn't recall the guy's name. and at this moment, he couldn't care less. Feeling like a rag doll hemorrhaging stuffing, all he craved was a place to crash and a blanket. He barely had enough strength to drag himself to the Swamp and fall into bed…... Hell with pajamas! His eyes couldn't close fast enough ....Sleep!!!! He thought he'd never feel the relief... The lumpy mattress paled compared to the one he was used to… but after 15 hours it was the only embrace he craved.

”Help!!!!!!!” A piercing demand broke the silence.

“Ahh!… Peh. Mmm beat…. naa ca.. you... you change her?” He mumbled.

“GET UP!!!!!”

”Ok….Ok honey… you ssleep…got this…”

“Drongo!”

”Little bits! Your first word! Peggy! Honey! Wake up, she’s talking!” But his eyes refused to raise their lids and he still wasn’t off of that cot.“Mm…big girl!” He cooed, arms open, slightly swaying as he struggled momentarily to maintain his footing.

”Hurry!!!”

“Daddy’s coming.”

”My brother!”

”Brother? Whoa, Little bits! Mommy’s had you for weeks… I just met you.” He tried to focus.... refusing to completely relinquish his dream.
