Work Text:
Mana looked in to see Atem busily working away on some paperwork and gave a small sigh, there was no point in trying to talk to him now. When he got busy like this it was hard to get his attention. Her hand slid down the door frame as she turned and slowly walked away feeling a little sad.
Atem had always been a very focused and worked oriented person but ever since he had become Pharaoh he had become even more absorbed into his. Often having to be reminded to eat, or to take a small break and rest. She saw less and less of him each passing day and she worried that there would coem a time when he would no longer have time for her anymore.
"Pharaoh, you have been working very hard, I think you should take a break." Priest Seto told him. Atem stretched his arms and looked outside to see Ra disappearing behind the horizon. Perhaps a break wouldn't be such a bad idea, besides there was something else he needed to do. He picked up a small gold box that had been sitting near the top of his desk as he left the room, before he had left he asked Seto if he knew where Mana was.
"I believe she is in your private garden." He replied. With a nod Atem hurried towards the gardens.
"I'm sorry for making you wait Mana." Thinking the quiet apology as he made his way down, Mana was one of the few people Atem had allowed to go into his small privet garden without needing prior permission.
Ra's light was going down, covering the sky in a mix pinks, oranges and even some purple. as he slowly disappeared for the night. Atem saw this as he entered the garden, before he spotted Mana sitting under one of the trees, looking kind of sad.
"Mana?" He spoke softly as he walked towards her,
"O-oh Pharaoh. What are you doing here?" She asked surprised to see him.
He chuckled a little "Well this is my garden." He walked towards her and sat down
”I guess your right.” She played with a piece of her messy brown hair.
"Well, I actually came to see you.” He told her “You do remember what today is don't you." He grinned holding out the small gold box her.
She slowly took the box from Atem’s hands. On the front of the small box her name had been carved in to it. She slowly opened the box to find a beautiful gold necklace with blue and green stones laying in it. She put a hand up to her mouth
"Pharaoh, you really didn't..." Atem put a finger to her lips before removing the necklace from the box and putting it on her.
"Happy Birthday Mana." When the necklace was on he turned his and gave a small kiss on the cheek. Mana could feel her cheeks become warm as she blushed
"You've been so busy I thought you had forgotten." She lay her head against his shoulder. No matter how busy he became that was one thing he could never forget. Even as kids he always , made sure to spend time with Mana on her birthday.
"I know we get so little time together now that I am Pharaoh," He looked into her big, beautiful brown eyes as he spoke
"But you are my best friend Mana, I could never forget your birthday." He smiled and leaned his head back against the tree with one of his arm around her waist as they watched Ra go from the sky leaving only the glittering stars and the fullness of Khonsu to light up the night.
