Dottie was sitting on the floor of her bedroom waiting for Mercury to arrive. The two had planned to go to the mall and then Mercury would spend the night at Dottie’s. She couldn’t help but feel her chest get warm at the thought of spending the day with Mercury. Dottie very vividly remembers her standing up for her, Rylan and Daniel when they were being targeted by Ein and his lackeys back when Daniel was still omega.
The way Mercury stood her ground despite not being a werewolf left an imprint on Dottie’s heart, and she immediately developed feelings for the other young woman. Dottie had a tendency to be a hopeless romantic. She let out a sigh, knowing that, deep down, feelings were not reciprocated. Dottie would never tell Mercury how she felt in fear of ruining what friendship they did have, worrying that Mercury would see her in a completely different light. Dottie was more than willing to push down her feelings for the sake of a friendship, no matter how much it hurt her to do so.
The distinct sound of the doorbell rang out throughout the house, and Dottie quickly got up to answer the door. She straightened out her sweater before opening the door.
“Hey girl!” Mercury’s voice rang in Dottie’s ears when she opened the door for her friend, and Dottie returned the sentiment by smiling back.
“Hey! Come in!” Dottie stepped aside to let mercury in, getting a whiff of her sweet smelling perfume as she did. Dottie was always taken aback by how nice she always smelled, likely due to the fact her father owned a perfume company. “That perfume is really nice, is that lily of the valley?”
“It is!! It’s a new perfume that my dad’s company has been developing, do you like it?” Mercury asked, bouncing on her heels excitedly. Dottie smiled at her. She thought it was so sweet how excited she was about the new perfume.
“I do!” Dottie chimed, her purple tail wagging behind her rapidly. “C’mon, lets go put your stuff upstairs so we can get ready to go to the mall!”
She linked arms with Mercury and led her upstairs. Dottie’s room was neat, a white carpet with light blue walls, her bed was in the corner, and vanity was next to it. She watched as mercury set her bags down by the door.
“We can set the air mattress up when we get back.” Dottie picked her cardigan up off the back of her chair. “We can go whenever you’re ready to go.”
Mercury nodded when Dottie said that, seeing as they were both ready to go, she straightened up and flipped her hair over her shoulder.
“Yeah! Lets go, we can get food at the mall.” She smiled at Dottie as they both made their way downstairs to leave.

As they walked to the mall, Dottie tried to be as subtle as she could about the glances she was stealing a Mercury. Everything about her just seemed to draw her in, like a moth to a flame. Dottie knew that she couldn’t do anything about those feelings, She knew they weren’t returned, but that didn’t stop her heart from leaping every time Mercury smiled at her. From her green eyes, to her long wavy hair, to the way she seemed to stand up for others who couldn’t… Dottie saw Mercury as perfect.
The two made their way to the entrance of the mall and walked to the food court before sitting down. Dottie flicked through the menu before deciding on what she wanted to order. The waitress came over and took their orders before going again.
“Your makeup looks really nice today.” Dottie complimented. She always thought the way Mercury did her makeup was pretty, but she looked especially nice today.
“Thank you so much! Maybe I could do your makeup later, too?” Mercury offered, seeming excited at the idea of doing Dottie’s makeup. Dottie also smiled at this, she constantly hung around with boys like Daniel, Rylan and Blaze, so this was a nice change of pace.
“Really? I’d love that!” She beamed at Mercury’s request. Their food came and they ate together before paying and then going off to browse the other stores. The two bought snacks and some soda for later in the evening before going around and looking at the clothes. Dottie spotted a denim skirt on one of the racks and picked it up to look at it.
“Hey, Mercury, do you think this skirt is cute?” She asked, holding it up to herself to see how it would look on her. Mercury gasped and ran over.
“It’s adorable! We should match!” Mercury immediately looked to see if there was any in her size, and let out a noise of triumph when she found one, but in a different colour.
“We totally should, that would be so fun!” Dottie grinned and put the skirt in her basket along with her other items. The two girls went back to browsing, hyping each other up whenever they had the chance to. It was a nice change of pace from Dottie’s other friends. Of course, she loved the other werewolves, but there was something so liberating about hanging out with someone who she got to hype up like that, and to be hyped up in return.

Later that evening, the girls sat on the air mattress after getting into their pyjamas, Dottie’s tail was wagging behind her happily. Her hair was being held out of her face by a headband as Mercury applied foundation to her face.
“So, are there any boys that you like? Or girls?” She asked as she put the beauty blender down and started adding concealer in places too. Dottie paused for a moment, genuinely considering her answer for a moment. She didn’t want to lie to Mercury, but she also didn’t want to be honest with her about this, either. So she decided to lie.
“No, not really. I mean I’m friends with a lot of boys but I’m not really interested in any of them like that. They’re like brothers to me, you know?” Dottie closed her eyes as Mercury carefully put eyeshadow on her eyelid.
“No, I get what you mean! I hope you find someone soon, though!” The sincerity in her voice almost made Dottie’s chest hurt. Dottie had found someone, but that someone didn’t return her feelings, and likely never would. She was exhausted with the one-sided feelings, she wished it was different, she wished she didn’t want to be more than friends with Mercury.
“Thank you, Mercury. I hope you find someone too.” Dottie tried to sound as sincere as she could. Mercury didn’t seem to catch onto Dottie’s forced tone. The two continued to share small conversation while Mercury finished Dottie’s makeup. The two took some pictures together before they put a movie onto Dottie's laptop and got out all the snacks.
However, Dottie was hardly able to focus on the movie, her mind was swirling about ‘what ifs’ and thoughts of what could have been if Mercury did return her feelings, how different things could have been. By the time she zoned back in, the movie was almost over and Mercury had fallen asleep. Dottie sighed quietly, moved the snacks off the air mattress, and pulled a blanket over Mercury. She moved to sit by her vanity, taking the makeup off before getting into bed. She went on her phone, texting the boys a bit before dozing off herself.

“Thank you so much for having me over, Dottie!!” Mercury cheered, hugging Dottie as she said goodbye.
“Thank you so much for coming over! Hopefully we can have another sleepover soon!” Dottie hugged back, waving goodbye to Mercury as she got into her dad’s car and they drove off. When she was gone, Dottie let out a long sigh. She went back up to her room and sat on her bed, looking at the pictures from the night before on her phone. She couldn’t help but think back to what was said the night before, when Mercury asked about if she liked someone. Did she know? Was Dottie that easy to read?
She turned to lay facing towards the wall. This wasn’t particularly something she could talk to Daniel or Rylan about. Rylan was in a happy relationship with June and Daniel was focusing on his studies. She felt so alone, stuck in a situation where she couldn’t talk to anyone about it. She took a deep breath, and then sat up on her bed. She was happy just being friends with Mercury, but why was her mind torturing her with thoughts of what could have been? If Mercury returned her feelings, would they be happy? Or would they only stay together for a few weeks?
Dottie shook her head, attempting to rid her hair of these thoughts. She put her curly hair up in a pony tail and went downstairs, putting her shoes on and then leaving the house to go clear her head. She decided to text Daniel, going to visit him at his mother's apartment, knowing that at least hanging out with him or Rylan would provide a distraction.
