"Like I'm trying to tell you, I'm not sick!"
It was an early morning at the Seisho Academy dormitory, yet it seemed like a noisy ruckus was already being made. Junna was frowning down at the blonde girl sitting on her bed. "Quit being stubborn, Nana. You don't look well at all." Junna said, placing her hands on her hips.
"You're imagining things, Junna-chan! I promise I'm fine...." Nana answered, trying her best to sound like her usual bubbly self. But unfortunately for her, Junna could see right through her little act.
"Nana, you're all red in the face. You probably have a fever. Not to mention, you've been sneezing all morning. Here, let me check your forehead." she said, reaching a hand out towards Nana. "N-No! I'm okay, Junna-chan! Really!" Nana protested. She quickly brought both of her hands up to cover her forehead.
Junna sighed impatiently. "Jeez...come on, Nana, now you're just being childish. Let me see." Nana shook her head in response as Junna tried again. Nana's really gone and done it now. Junna's patience has officially become nonexistent.
"Okay...you leave me with no choice."
"What do you mean, Jun–Ah!"
In an instant, Junna grabbed both of Nana's hands, pinning them down at her sides onto the bed, thus cornering Nana underneath her in the process. "J-Junna-chan...! Nana gasped, trying to squirm out of Junna's hold. But Junna simply leaned down and rested her forehead against Nana's before she could protest any further.
A fever wasn't the only thing making Nana red in the face now. She tried not to stare too hard at Junna's lips, which were just mere inches away from her own...and she tried not to think about how soft they might feel against hers....
"Just as I thought." Junna mumbled, snapping Nana out of her thoughts. She let go of Nana's hands and sat up, still straddling Nana's lap. Nana immediately felt the disappointment wash over her, but she made sure it didn't show on her face.
"You're burning up, Nana. There's absolutely no way you're going to class today. I won't allow it." Junna continued, giving Nana a rather annoyed look. "But...." Nana began hesitantly. "No buts. I don't want to hear any more objections. You're staying here and I'm going to take care of you." Junna finished. Nana propped herself up on her elbows quickly, her eyes wide and a bit frantic.
"You don't have to do that! You can go on ahead to class...I can perfectly take care of myself on my own." Nana said anxiously. "But what if you faint or your condition gets worse? I don't want something bad happening to you, Nana." Junna replied, her tone a mixture of worry and seriousness. She gently took Nana's hands in hers and pulled her up into a hug. "Junna-chan...?"
"I love you Nana, and I care about you so much. You wouldn't be a burden to me if I stayed behind and looked after you. Not at all." She pulled back to meet Nana's eyes. "Is that why you're so against me taking care of you? Because you feel you'd be a burden?" Junna asked. Of course Junna could see right through her again. Nana wasn't surprised. "Mhm...but also...."
"Also?" Junna encouraged Nana gently. "I just...I'm the one who always looks after everyone...everyone's sweet and nutritious Banana. So if it's me being looked after instead...it's embarrassing." Nana blushed and looked away.
A pause. Junna giggled warmly. "Jeez, Nana. You're really like a little kid, aren't you?" She cupped one of Nana's cheeks with her hand, rubbing it with her thumb. Nana's eyes met Junna's once more. There was so much love and warmth staring back at her. "You can always rely on the rest of us, okay? We're here for you too. Especially me." Junna said sweetly.
"Junna-chan...okay, thank you." Nana smiled gratefully. "Hehe, you're welcome. Now let's get you comfortable, shall we?" Junna asked, moving to get off of Nana. "Before that...." Nana wrapped her arms around Junna's waist to stop her from moving. "Nana?"
"Can I...get a kiss?" Nana asked shyly. Junna smiled. "Not now, Nana. You're sick, and I might catch your sickness if I kiss you. You don't want me getting sick too, do you?" "I don't...but still–" Junna put a finger up to Nana's lips before she could even finish speaking. "How about this? Once you get better after a lot of rest...I'll reward you, okay?"
Nana's eyes lit up happily. "Really? Yay!~ Okay, Junna-chan!"
"Heh, silly girl."
~
"Okay Nana, I'm gonna step out for a little to grab some things. I'll make sure not to be out too long. Are you comfortable?" Junna stood beside Nana's bed, who was snuggled up in her blankets with her plushies. "Mhm. Thank you, Junna-chan...." Nana smiled up at Junna.
"Of course. Call me if you need anything, okay? Try to get some rest for now. I'll be back soon." Junna said, brushing some strands of Nana's hair affectionately before heading out the door.
"See you...." Nana called out to her as the door was shut closed. She turned on her side, nuzzling her head deeper into her pillow. "Junna-chan...." she whispered to herself. Nana grabbed the frog plushie that was near her and hugged it to her chest, curling herself inwards.
You can always rely on the rest of us, okay? We're here for you too. Especially me.
"Junna-chan is so kind. She's like the sun. So warm and gentle...and she shines brighter than anything in the whole world." Nana closed her eyes as Junna's face appeared in her mind. She thought about how beautiful she looked whenever she smiled, or when she was focused at practice, or whenever she went on and on with her nerdy rambles. To Nana, Junna was beautiful no matter what. Even when she was being scolded by her earlier. And when she...
Nana blushed furiously, burying her face into her frog plushie as the thought of Junna on top of her replayed in her mind. Oh how she had wanted to kiss her so bad in that moment, to run her fingers through her violet hair. She craved her so badly. Desperately.
It did touch Nana's soul to be cared for by Junna this way, even if she had to wait until she got better to feel Junna's sweet kiss again. To be reminded that she has her to lean on, someone to look for in the chaos of her fears...her light in the darkness. All of it still didn't feel real to Nana.
She was loved, and not alone in the slightest.
"Junna-chan...come back soon."
~
An hour passes and Junna returns to the dormitory with a grocery bag in hand. She walks into the kitchen, setting it down on the counter in front of her. Surely it isn't impossible to try cooking something for Nana...right?
Junna wasn't too confident in her cooking skills but this was for Nana, so she wanted to do her best. For her. "Since she's sick, Nana needs something healthy and nutritious. Her vegetable soup recipe will do." Junna said as she grabbed the apron Nana usually wore in the kitchen, tying it around her waist. "Let's get to work."
Soon enough, the soup was complete. Fortunately for Junna, it wasn't too difficult to cook thanks to Nana's easy instructions she had practically memorized at that point. It was sure to help Nana feel better. Then she could...
Junna's cheeks flushed, remembering the promise she made to Nana and how she held a finger to the lips she so desperately wanted to feel on her own. Junna shook her head in attempt to shoo away the pesky thoughts infiltrating her mind. Now isn't the time to be thinking of that. But how could she shake off the way Nana was looking at her with such need in her eyes, even though she pretended not to notice?
Nevertheless, she still had a job to do and that was to bring Nana her food. Junna prepared a bowl and a glass of water and arranged it on a small tray. Carefully bringing it over to their room, Junna set it down for a moment so she could knock softly on the door. "Nana?"
Junna expected to hear Nana's reply but instead was met with silence. She opened the door as slowly and quietly as she could before picking the tray back up. Inside, she found Nana sleeping peacefully as she hugged her favorite frog plushie to her chest. For once she didn't find her some crazy sleeping position.
Her bangs were a bit tousled, and she could spot the trail of drool spilling down on her pillow. Cute. Sleeping like a baby, huh? She watched as Nana stirred slightly in her sleep, the corners of her mouth turning up into a smile. "Junna-chan...." Nana mumbled, hugging the plushie even tighter to her body. Junna smiled, feeling her heart warm at such a lovely sight.
Setting the tray down on the floor next to the bed, Junna also lowered herself and knelt down to the floor. "Nana." Junna whispered gently. Nana's eyes fluttered open to Junna's pretty face staring back at her. "Junna-chan!" Nana immediately lit up with joy despite the sleepy edge to her voice. "I'm back, Nana. Did you sleep well? How are you feeling now?"
Nana sat up, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. "Mhm! I think I'm feeling a little better...especially now that you're back." Nana answered sweetly. Junna blushed. Her Nana was seriously too cute. "I know you just woke up, but...I made something for you to eat." Junna said, standing up with the tray back in her hands. Nana's eyes widened in surprise, but then her expression turned soft. "You made that for me? You rarely cook at all, Junna-chan."
"Of course I did. I want you to get better after all." Junna replied as she placed the tray of food over Nana's lap. Nana looked from Junna's face to the tray then back to Junna, a wide smile slowly forming on her lips. "I'm so happy! Thank you, Junna-chan!"
Nana lifted the spoon and happily began to eat. Junna pulled Nana's chair from her desk and sat down next to the bed. Watching her like this, Junna believed Nana was truly like a kid. Her heart felt like it was melting just by looking at her. She reached out and caressed the top of Nana's head lovingly. Now Nana was the one who looked like she was going to melt just by Junna's touch. "You're so adorable, Nana."
"E-Ehh?!" Nana looked at Junna, her face flushing a bright red from the sudden affectionate words that came out of her mouth. "Why'd you say that all of a sudden?" Nana asked flusteredly.
"Just because." Junna responded lightly. Nana's lips formed a pout. Even more adorable. "Jeez...you're making me want that kiss even more, Junna-chan." Junna's breath hitched. That caught her off-guard. "N-Nana!" she stuttered.
"Hmm?~" Nana said playfully, her pout turning into a smirk. Junna huffed, looking away from Nana. Her cheeks were stained pink. "...Hurry up and finish your soup." she grumbled. Nana laughed. It always felt satisfying to see Junna all flustered, especially by her own doing. "Roger that~ It's really delicious!"
Junna softened, trying to suppress a grateful smile but was doing a very bad job at doing so. She was happy to know Nana was enjoying her cooking. Silence filled the air as Nana continued eating and Junna continued to admire her girlfriend.
However, it seemed that the more she watched her, the stronger the urge to kiss her grew. But Nana was sick! Junna knew she couldn't kiss her like this. And yet...
"Hey, Nana?" she asked. "Yes?" replied Nana. "Can you give me your hand?" Junna held out her hand, feeling a bit shy. Nana smiled, not hesitating at all to take her hand. It felt warm against her own skin. Junna used her other hand to caress Nana's knuckle with her thumb for a few moments. She slowly brought Nana's hand to her lips, kissing it tenderly as if she was holding something fragile.
"Junna-chan...?"
"Watching you...I couldn't help myself. This will just have to do for now." Junna said, returning Nana's smile. Nana intertwined her hand with Junna's. "You know, I could get used to this...getting pampered like this. Being cared for in return. I'm really not alone, aren't I?"
"Not at all." Junna said with a slight shake of the head. "You never will be ever again. And besides, our sweet Banana deserves love too, no?" Nana's eyes softened. "You're right, Junna-chan."
"Please don't ever forget that. I'm with you, Nana."
"Always?"
"Always."
