Work Text:
Will woke up to complete darkness, except for a little stream of light shining through blackout curtains. Blackout curtains? The Apollo cabin never had those, unless… He looks down at his lap, and low and behold, curled around him is a sleeping figure. Their dark, brown hair a mess, spread around Will’s shoulders and obscuring their face.
The figure happened to be his best friend, Nico di Angelo. Nico, who shifted around while he softly mumbled incoherently in his sleep. His hands were loosely wrapped around Will’s waist, as Nico practically laid on top of him.
Nico lets out a soft sigh, and Will flushes in realization. Wow, Will doesn’t think he and Nico have ever been this close. Obviously they’ve touched each other before, they are best friends. But those touches were small and fleeting, like on a too small seat, or a brushing of arms. Nothing near being practically stacked like pancakes.
Will has had a one-hundred-percent-guaranteed unrequited crush on his best friend for as long as he remembered. Since before the Battle of Manhattan. His crush on Nico started off as mostly attraction, especially when he was younger. But after becoming Nico’s best friend, it’s so much more.
Plus spending nearly every hour with Nico hasn’t helped Will get over his crush, it’s honestly only gotten worse. Will can’t help but imagine what it would be like to wake up by his best friend’s side every morning, in their own home, with their kids just down the hall... Nico’s just so caring, and pretty, and powerful, and… Will loves him.
Love? Since when has this childhood crush been anything more than ‘I just like him?’ Since when has this ‘like’ turned into love? Will doesn't know.
But he doesn't question himself anymore when Nico begins to stir. His big eyes slowly blink open, and he mumbles because he’s still too asleep to form a coherent sentence.
“Hello sunshine,” Will says as he smiles down at Nico. Who then buries himself back in Will’s chest, hiding his face in his yellow sweater.
”Five more minutes,” he grumbles, and yeah, Will’s definitely in love.
