Work Text:
Kon keeps his old Superboy merch in a dusty, battered cardboard box. Samples of her new merch arrived in the mail yesterday, all carefully packaged. It’s a strange feeling, her sudden explosive fame, but she’s Cissie King–Jones, Olympic gold medalist and America’s Sweetheart now, so she better get used to it.
VHS tapes for Superboy: The Animated Series, Superboy action figures, Superboy lunchboxes, flying discs, t-shirts, hats… her face is plastered everywhere, too, but mostly on endorsed products, like cereal boxes and sports equipment. These arm guards and gloves are quite nice, actually. She really might enjoy using them.
Cassie reaches for a Superboy baseball cap. Suzie opens one of the cereal boxes—fortified with vitamins and minerals and high in fiber, it claims—then she, Bart, and Anita start eating some. Cissie also grabs a handful to snack on.
Kon’s manager held the Superman trademark when the world thought that the Man of Steel was dead. He tells them about Leech’s cease and desist attempt upon Superman’s return, and Cissie laughs at the sheer audacity. Long story short, half of all profits from Superboy merchandising must go towards charity, but Kon can use the symbol. There’s only ever been one Cissie King–Jones, and her agent will have her set for college—for life, even—if she plays her cards right and her aim stays true.
Maybe Kon knows it already, but she’ll never say it aloud: Cissie definitely got the better deal. Her mom made sure of that. Yet, she knows that even with a shady manager in the equation, Bonnie King–Jones would’ve killed for Arrowette to have half of what Superboy has.
