Chapter 1: …Like Your High School Crush

Chapter Text

The drama club was rather active today, there was a play soon to come up in a couple of months. Actors were moving in a constant, rehearsing nonstop to ensure top-notch performance. Bill secured himself a role in the main cast, his mind bubbling with confidence.

Bill stands greatly beside the wall and stretches flauntingly, releasing a gentle roar as he sprawls himself out. He grabs a bottle of water and downs it halfway, sighing contentedly as he roughly wipes his lips with the back of his hand, his clawed fingertips grazing against his cheeks. “Mmmrr…” He lets out a rumbling purr, his body leaning back into the wall behind him.

Pina sat on the bench, catching glances at him. He found himself giggling quietly as his eyes met with Bill’s, feeling his cheeks burn up and turn a reddish shade. He was unsure of what this feeling was that fizzed up inside of his stomach, making him fuzzy, but he found it always triggering whenever he was near Bill.

He gazes back at Bill who was standing at the mirror, smugly clenching his biceps. Pina subconsciously twirled his hair, his soft fingers grazing the curls as he found his ears twitching. He was suddenly snapped out of the sight with a gentle tap on the shoulder, he spins around to find Aoba who sat beside him.

“Hey, why do you keep looking at him?” Aoba mutters with a soft coo escaping his beak, his head tilting towards Pina, whose face lit up and turned completely red. “That’s nothing of your business!” Pina quickly stammers out, his fingers roaming on his tie. He looks down, his ears trembling timidly.

“Is it not?” Aoba chuckles and leans back into the wall. “But I mean, is there something you want to tell us?” Pina’s head slowly turns up, his hands pressed gently on his lap and his cheeks a cute, rose-like pink shade. “Um…” He stutters, starting to realise something deep inside. But could I be? If I was, how could I only realise it now? It made no sense to me

“Err…” Pina continues to stammer incoherently, struggling to find his words. His mind was racing as everything dawned on him, completely crushing him from the inside. This was completely new to him; someone who always had an image of the cute, cocky and suspiciously effeminate womaniser sheep boy. Aoba gently placed a hand on his shoulder, squeezing it tightly to regain his attention.

“You know you can tell us whatever, right? We won’t hate you, man.” He says calmly, his beak curling to a friendly smile. Pina huffs frustratedly and crosses his arms, his wool was freshly shaven, the sleeves of his shirt hung below his skinny upper arms. He steals another glance at Bill, who was now standing on the stage, roaming around carelessly and delivering his lines smoothly, which mesmerised Pina.

Aoba slowly follows his gaze, tracing it to the stage; Bill’s back was turned on them, his tail was lazily stirring behind him and he had his head down, peering into a script. “You like him, don’t you?” Aoba snorts, humiliating Pina. “Ah, okay, fine…” Pina grumbles irritatedly, batting his lashes. “Maybe a little…”

“Wouldn’t that make me, like, into men or something? Is that strange?” Pina trails his words, continuing to ramble questioningly. “No, I only like Bill, not all men. Surely that can’t mean…” Aoba gently presses the side of his cheek and snickers calmly. “Forget about labels for now. It’s fine.” Pina looks at him, his eyes softening and his lips shyly curling into a content grin.

The school bell rang, students started to roam the hallways heading off to the cafeteria. Pina was grabbing his backpack, when Bill playfully sneaked up and rested both of his arms around his neck. Pina’s face warmed up in shock and he covered his face with the palm of his hand. “Hey, man.” Bill growls playfully. Pina tried not to react to the feeling of his burly arms wrapping around his neck, but he felt comfortable.

“You’re an asshole…” Pina grumbles, slinging his bag over his shoulders and reluctantly reaching out to grab Bill’s hand, his smaller frame snugly fit in his and their fingers intertwined. Bill chuckles, his hypnotic laughter like music to Pina’s ears. “Come on!” Bill slides his hand away and gestures for Pina to follow him as he throws his bag up. Pina stood, shell shocked, the warmth of Bill lingering on his now shaky hand. He grins dreamily and follows him.

How am I supposed to tell him? Am I being stupid? He’ll definitely hate me, he’ll probably think I’m a weirdo. I’m being stupid…

Bill stops at a table and gently tugs Pina’s arm, making him jump out of surprise. “Come on, idiot, sit down.” He slides into the seat across from Bill and twirls his hair idly, his head tilting down as he struggles to make eye contact. “Oh my God…” Pina mutters under his breath, while Bill was searching through his backpack with a wide grin, blissfully unaware.

“Hey, I bought myself lunch, but, you know, you can have some of my lunch.” He slides a container across the table, Pina takes it and delicately tilts the lid off, peering inside. In it were a couple of sandwiches, as well as a juice box. Pina grins and glares back at Bill. “Oh, thanks…” He says, his heart beating rapidly.

God damn. I can feel my heart beating. Is this a normal feeling? Is a boy like me supposed to feel these emotions? I’m being ridiculous, I’m sure it’s nothing serious… Nothing like high school crushes, right?

Pina’s mind was racing, but it’s put to a stop as he took a bite of his sandwich. The crispy eggs melted in his mouth and flew into a sweet taste, the butterflies in his stomach spreading warmer. “These are delicious…” Pina exclaims with a timid chuckle, Bill smirked warmly at the sheep who sat there and kicked his hooves. “Yeah? You like them? I’ll make sure to buy more when we hang out.”

They ate beside each other, buzzing loudly with laughter and conversations, making lunchtime pass by in what felt like a second, the both of them starting to make a deeply tight bond, which only tugged at Pina’s delicate heart strings stronger, his feelings eating at him every passing moment where he kept his mouth shut.
