Chapter Text
The morning chill crept in through the cracks in the window. It wasn't as frigid as it wasn't early in the morning, but it was still cold enough to make anyone not want to get out of bed.
Chara opened their eyes, eyes with pupils of an intense, almost glowing red, a very uncommon coloration among humans, then they could see the white painted ceiling above their head, sat on the edge of the bed and a yawn came out of their mouth while their body stretched.
At once, they lightly covered their eyes as felt the sunlight hit them. It took a while to get used to it, but once they did, they could see the walls of their room, a closet, and a desk in one corner. With a sigh, they got out of bed and stretched a little.
They walked over to the closet, still stretching a little along the way, and opened the door with a quick movement. Upon seeing the interior, they noticed how few clothes were inside and remembered that they had stayed overnight at their mother's house the night before.
At that moment a memory came to them and quickly brought their hand to the neck and was greeted by the soft fabric of that blue and yellow checked bandana, the bandana that Clover had given the night before.
With the bandana in mind, they began to remember all the events, the competition, the movie, the kitchen... Clover... The closeness they had at that moment... How they could feel their breath against Clover's, how their fingers brushed the scars on their eyes.
Chara remembered their touch, sure yet gentle, filled with something they couldn't recognize... And they longed to feel it again.
The mere thought made the red creep into their face, took a breath, seeking comfort in the cold air that entered their lungs and turning their gaze to the inside of the closet.
They took out a white shirt, a green sweater, and a pair of pants, putting them on leisurely and then, looking at their reflection in the mirror, they adjusted the bandana so that it was wrapped around their neck and a small smile escaped their lips.
Chara was ready to start the day, walked slowly towards the bedroom door.
Then a voice greeted them in the hallway.
“Good morning Chara” Frisk said with a mischievous smile on their face “I think that bandana looks great on you”
Chara shot them a murderous glare and spoke in a threatening voice “One more word and I’ll drown you for the night.”
"I'm just giving my opinion. Anyway, are you going to tell me what happened yesterday?" Frisk looked at their sibling with big, pleading eyes; they was dying of curiosity.
“How do you know…” Chara stood for a moment and then let out a long sigh “Kanako… she told you everything, right?”
“She told me everything she could get out of Clover, which is… very little.” Then Frisk’s smile grew even bigger and more amused. “But she also told me what she saw.”
Another sigh escaped Chara's mouth, and they resumed the walk to the lower floor. " Eres un cadáver Frisk."
“Ok, ok, I'll stop now” Frisk put a hand to their neck, although they liked to annoy their sibling, they was clear that Chara's patience had a limit and it seemed that they was already reaching it.
Chara went down the stairs being followed by Frisk, both were greeted by the smell of a caramel pie fresh out of the oven
“Good morning my dear children, it is a pleasant surprise to have you here Chara” Toriel greeted them both with a warm smile while serving the pie portions on plates.
“I was hanging out with Frisk yesterday and it got really late, I hope you don’t mind” Chara commented, sitting on one side of the table while Frisk sat across from them.
“Not at all, dear. You should excuse me. I left you alone all day yesterday and got home very late.” Toriel placed a hand on her cheek with a guilty expression and sat between them. “So, tell me, what did you do yesterday? Did you invite friends over?”
“Yes, we were with the Ketsukane, since it was Friday we watched a movie and had a shooting competition!” Frisk speaks excitedly making guns with their fingers and aiming
Chara then looked at the bandana hanging around their neck and raised the head with a certain air of pride. “And I ended up winning, obviously.”
Then Frisk's face forms a mischievous smile. "Yeah, and Clover gave Chara their bandana as a reward for winning."
Toriel was slightly surprised to remember how important that bandana was to the cowpoke, and a softer smile formed. “It must have been a pretty big competition for them to give you their bandana.”
At that moment, Chara saw the other two members of their family sitting at the table and noticed the looks they both gave them, as if waiting for them to say something. "Uh... yeah, this is something very important to me too..." Although they wouldn't have admitted it, a small smile had formed on their face.
The rest of breakfast passed between talks, for Chara the time with their mother was always very pleasant, however, that did not mean that they still had to return home, it took them a few minutes to get ready and said goodbye to their sibling and mother, then they walked through the door, heading towards their father's house.
The walk was a moment for Chara to take a breath and analyze everything that was going through their mind, first, what happened in the kitchen, just thinking about it made the heat rise to their face and the feeling of the scars still produced an electric shock in their hands.
Second, everything that did NOT happen, Chara really appreciated Kanako, of course, she is Clover's sister, however, they didn't like that she had to interrupt at such a... important moment, Chara knew they could go further, they had been waiting for that opportunity for a long time.
And finally, in what could happen, Clover had invited them on a date, that was huge progress for the cowpoke and they was happy that it was finally happening, however, there was still the doubt in their mind, Clover didn't clarify a specific day, would they have to be the one to risk taking the first step? That thought didn't bother them that much either.
By the time they finished searching their mind, Chara realized they had already arrived, “Flower King” stood before them, the name had always made them laugh.
Without wasting any more time, Chara entered through the main door, being greeted by the sound of a small bell and the fragrant smell of the flowers that their father grew with so much love, and there they could see him, on one side making a small bouquet of flowers, big and imposing, but with delicate movements that gave off love.
A small smile formed on their face, they loved seeing how their father put so much dedication into creating his bouquets, however they still had to announce their arrival so opened the door again, ringing the bell again and Asgore looked up from the bouquet.
“Howdy? I’m a little busy with an order right now, but if you come back later…” Then his gaze fell on Chara, and a loving smile spread across his face. “Chara! My dear child, you spent the night at your mother’s house, didn’t you?” Asgore approached them and wrapped his arms around them.
A few laughs escaped Chara's lips "Dad, I already told you that I don't like hugs" that didn't stop them from reciprocating the hug, after a few seconds Asgore moved away again.
"Well, you don't look that upset either, come, join me in putting this bouquet together, while I do that you can tell me how it went." He turned back towards his work table, being followed by Chara.
Asgore pulled up a chair and went back to work, grabbing a pair of scissors and cutting away the imperfections.
Chara sat down next to him, watching with interest as their father worked. “I could say that everything went wonderfully. We were with the Ketsukane, we had a shooting competition and… Clover gave me their bandana as a prize for winning…” A smile formed on Chara’s lips as they carefully held the bandana.
Asgore looked at his child for a moment and then returned to his bouquet. “I’m so glad to know you’re so close. I still remember when you were little, you were balls of energy until… well, it happened… however, that doesn’t mean you and that cowpoke were always close, so… I have to assume you two…” He remained silent, letting Chara figure out what he was going to say.
Chara looked away as their cheeks turned red. “Well, Clover asked me out on a date… although they didn’t say a specific day, I’m sure it will be soon.”
“And I’m sure they’d love it if you brought them a bouquet of flowers” Asgore continued his work, this time grabbing a ribbon and wrapping it around the bouquet.
Chara looked at their father in bewilderment. “Dad… I don’t think they’s the type to like them, as such… I don’t think they can appreciate them.”
Asgore looked back at Chara and shook his head. “You’re wrong, my dear. Flowers shouldn’t just be beautiful to look at, they should also smell refreshing and fragrant. And with that in mind, I’m sure they might like something here.”
“That…” Chara looked at their father for a moment. “That doesn’t sound like such a bad idea. Do you know which flowers are the most fragrant?”
Asgore responded with a laugh and set the bouquet aside, rising from his seat again and speaking in the voice he used for his customers. "Okay, follow me. I'll show you some specimens that might interest you."
Chara sat for a moment, looking at the bouquet their father was working on. From what they learned from him, could recognize that they were Camellias, a deep red color. They was somewhat curious to know who the order could be from, questions they would ask their father later.
Then they got up and followed Asgore to the back room, once there they found Asgore with a flower in his hands, this one of an intense crimson color and with velvety petals.
“This is the Cosmos Atrosanguineus or chocolate plant, do you know why it’s called that?” Asgore brought the flower closer to Chara.
Chara looked bewildered, then they got a little closer and sniffed, instantly got a smell similar to chocolate, it wasn't the same, but something like that from a flower was surprising.
“Wow… it smells so good and it’s so beautiful, it reminds me of chocolate.”
Asgore nodded gently and set the flower aside. “Well, wait here.”
He took a few minutes to take out another flower, this time, he brought a pot with multiple flowers with purple-blue clusters and paler edges.
“This is the Hyacinthus orientalis also known as the 'Blue Festival' it has a sweet and fresh smell, a popular gift among young couples” Asgore winked at them and brought the flower closer.
Chara lowered their head slightly, trying to hide the small blush that had formed, and was instantly greeted by the sweet smell of the 'Blue Festival'.
“Well… it smells great, but… there could be other options.”
Asgore responded with a laugh and put the flower back down. “Well, that’s just the beginning. Wait another time.”
Then he went back to searching among a wide variety of flowers, Chara knew they would be there for the next few hours, it wasn't the first time their father had shown his fondness for plants, however it didn't bother them, in fact they was happy to be able to have an experience with their father.
Besides that, they couldn't forget the reason why they were there, Asgore was helping them look for the perfect flowers for a bouquet, Chara wasn't the type of person who gave gifts, much less a bouquet of flowers, but there was something that called them to do it, the image of that milky white that they couldn't get out of their mind.
