Work Text:
Roaring crowds, filled with cheers and chants. The stands were full as people watched the game with great interest. The majority watched for the love of the sport, others there to support their friends or family.
Personally, Robert found rugby to be very boring, only there to support one of his closest(only) friends, Jonathan Joestar. He wasn’t hard to spot on the field, Jojo was massive! The most visible thing on the field. Then there was Dio, Jonathan’s adoptive brother, he was noticeable in a different way.
Robert always thought of Dio as a stuck up jock who wouldn’t get anywhere in life, Dio was never nice to him either, either mocking him for his education or mocking him for his appearance. Yet there he was, always so close to Jonathan during the game, clearly using the other to gain spotlight.
At least that’s what he thought.
It was stupid. Robert knew it was. As he watched his mind began to wander, he knew this was Jonathan’s last semester, this was his last game. The big final! God, what would he do when Jonathan was gone what would-
Cheers soon erupted, startling Speedwagon as he looked at the field again. Realizing the game was over. Jonathan’s team had won. He couldn’t help but smile as he clapped quietly, watching the crowds move down onto the field to congratulate their friends.
What he didn’t know was the eyes that lingered on him from the field. Dio stood there, surrounded by girls and other teammates, yet his attention was on Speedwagon who stood alone in the stands.
…
“Robbie! Did you see me play?” Jonathan called out, rushing out to him in the parking lot. His girlfriend, Erina, followed behind.
Taken off guard, he raised an eyebrow before he chuckled. “Shouldn’t you be going home to spend time with Erina in celebration?” he asked.
Jonathan laughed, “Well that’s the plan, but I have some good news for you! You can finally move into a dorm on campus.”
“What? Don’t tell me you paid for it-“ Robert said, visibly flustered and panicked.
Erina smiled, before she looked nervously at Jonathan. “I think we should tell him..”
“No no! It will be a nice surprise!” Jonathan said, clapping his hands together joyfully.
Robert looked at Erina with a look of worry before shifting his gaze to Jonathan. “What’s the catch?”
“There’s none- not really. I’m sure you’ll be fine.”
There was an awkward silence between the three before Jonathan quickly hugged Robert. “Good luck! I’ll make sure to keep in contact!”
“You’re barely moving anywhere! I’ll see you later, Jojo.” Robert said with a chuckle, making his way through the darkness outside towards his car.
Seeing a figure in the darkness, Robert tensed. “Get away from my car,” He said sternly. Trying to see who it was.
A laugh left the mans mouth, moving into the streetlight to reveal himself. “What? Am I not allowed to wait for my ride here?”
Robert snarled, “I’m not your ride home, Dio.”
“Oh I know. I wouldn’t be caught dead in a car with you.” Dio said, walking away from Robert. “Shame Jonathan’s leaving now.” He grinned, “What will you do all alone?”
Cautiously Robert walked to his car. “Leave me alone.” He mumbled as he got into his vehicle. It was rundown and old, he was lucky to afford it.
Dio stared at him from outside before a fancy car full of people pulled up where Dio got in.
Sitting alone in the dark. Robert groaned, closing his eyes as he leaned back. Frustrated and upset, he could only hope for the best now, and to leave this college as soon as he could.
…
A month or so had passed, and a new semester had begun.
Robert had his bags packed and ready, Jonathan wasn’t joking about being able to get a dorm. He finally felt hopeful about this, that was until he got to the dorm.
It was Jonathan’s old dorm. One he shared with Dio.
Robert tensed, there was no way Dio still had this room right? His hands were shaking as he unlocked the door.
“This room’s taken.”
His worries were true, there Dio was, nose in a book as he laid on his bed. Robert took a deep breath. “Well it’s my room as well.”
Dio looked up from his book as his eyes widened. “What? Why are you here?” He asked, his voice was annoyed as he saw Speedwagon standing in the doorway. Loosely dressed and poorly styled.
“Jojo told me I had a room.” He mumbled before he scoffed. “What he didn’t mention was that it was with YOU.”
Dio approached the other, leaning in close before he smiled. “Well then.. Let’s be the best of roommates, hm?”
Robert shoved Dio back as he went to the empty bed on the other half of the room. “Fuck you, dude. Do your worst.”
“Oh come on.” Dio snarled, before he laughed. “Are you sure you want to stay in a dorm with me?”
“Better than my car.. Well, comfort sense.. With you here, the car’s better.” Robert answered, placing his bag on the bed as he began to unpack.
“Don’t bother unpacking, Robbie.”
“Don’t call me that.”
“Well, Robert. I doubt you’d want to stay..” Dio began, before he continued Robert threw a pillow at him.
“Shut it, blondie. Don’t you got some bimbo bitches to chase after?” Robert asked as he took his computer out.
Dio was offended by that, swiftly grabbing the pillow as he shoved it towards Robert. “You’re so cocky for a man so… pathetic? Plus I’m not sure if I’d like to share a room with a man like you.”
Robert groaned, realizing Jonathan had told Dio that he was gay. “Cool, then leave.” He said before he took the pillow back and placed it on the bed.
“Well, have fun. I have a class soon, so lucky lucky you.” Dio said, grabbing his satchel as he went to the door. “See you later, Robbie.”
