Anguish is a Flavor

Work Text:

A/N: Sorry if anything sounds weird I am sick at the moment and just wanted to write cause I'm bored and have nothing to do. Which also means I did not edit the spaceing at all from word to A03. Sorry if that's jarring.

Bendy slowly walked into the restaurant he and Allan had planned to meet. Bendy had just got off of work and was already running a little late to the family dinner that had been planned, but that’s what happens when your father runs one of the biggest businesses in town.

The old men love to blabber.

Yet as Bendy made it to the table he couldn’t help but notice that it was crowded with family.

And not a single seat was left for him.

Allan laughed comfortably with his mother when he noticed him.

“Ah. Bendy.” Allan called and Bendy smiled a tad confused.

“Hey. Sorry I’m late. The meeting took longer than I thought it would.” Bendy said looked towards Allan’s mom who dabbed at her bottom lip lightly with her napkin.

“It’s alright.” Allan said and everyone seemed to look over from their meals a bit judgmentally.

Bendy looked for a chair and noticed just how packed the resteraunt was that night.

“It doesn’t look like theres any free chairs.” Bendy hummed and looked back at Allan a little.” Allan looked around and frowned.

“Awe, sorry love. It looks like there are only small booths left to sit in.” Allan said and Allan’s mother Patricia spoke up.

“Well, if he’d arrived sooner maybe there would have been. Plus, we’re just getting our desserts.” She said as a waiter set things down.

Bendy glanced at her to see her smug smirk and looked at Allan who seemed to just sit with a lost expression.

“Maybe you should sit at one of the booths. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.” Patricia stated blankly.

Bendy hummed a little and smiled politely.

“Ah. I see. Well, I will just enjoy myself then. Hope you don’t mind Allan.” Bendy said and Allan’s face dropped even more as Bendy turned and sat at one of the more secluded booths.

Allan went to stand but his mother touched his arm. “Allan you flan is here.” She motioned and he sat quietly not making eye contact.

Bendy meanwhile sat alone for a few minutes dusting table a little as he waited. The waiter showed up almost immediately.

“Hello there.” The cup spoke smoothly and Bendy looked up to see red eyes catching his blue ones.

“Hi.” Bendy said with a smile. The man set a menu down and motioned towards the family table.

“Some family night, huh.” He said and Bendy’s smile twitched a little. “If I’m not welcomed at their table then there is nothing to fight for.” Bendy said as he took the menu.

“I’m not here to turn their views around, let alone stand up for someone who won’t stand up for me.” Bendy said casually.

The cup seemed to nod and Bendy started to create his order.

“I would like some of this steak and even a bit of wine, please. And if you’d be so willing to get me a shrimp cocktail for an apitizer I’d be delighted.” Bendy said thoughtfully.

“And I will order dessert after.” Bendy said with a smaller smile.

“Alright. I’ll be right back with that. Want anything else added to the order?” He asked and scribbled quick notes of food down.

“No that’d be all. Thank you..” Bendy peered at their shirt to see Cuphead written there. “Cuphead.”

Cuphead smiled and nodded. “Anytime.” He said as he walked away to send in the orders.

Bendy sat there and waited flipping through his phone to see Allan attempting to apologize through his phone.

Bendy didn’t look at the text’s or even care to answer them.

After a minute Allan did walk over and sat across from Bendy to talk.

“Hey hun. Some tables have left, we could find you a chair to join the whole table.” Allan offered and Bendy didn’t look up from his phone.

“Hmm. Thank you for the offer Allan but I’d prefer to stay over here.” He said calmly. “Your mother made a point. You’d all be sitting and waiting for me to finish my food. No need to prolong your families stay.” Bendy left no room for argument.

“Plus.” Bendy said looking up finally. “I am not going to be paying for their food like we planned.” Allan seemed to frown and before he could speak Bendy’s shrimp cocktail arrived as well as his wine.

“Ah. Thank you.” Bendy said smiling at Cuphead who nodded.

“Here’s the dessert menu for when you’ve finished your meal.” Cuphead said and Bendy smiled setting it aside as Allan watched Cuphead leave.

“See. I’m seated and have already started my meal.” Bendy motioned to his food. Before taking a bite of a sauce covered shrimp.

Allan grabbed Bendy’s other hand and Bendy looked at him slightly annoyed.

“Bendy are you mad at me?” Allan asked and Bendy laughed. Allan looked at him a tad lost.

Bendy quieted his laughter and pulled his hand away.

“Mad. No.” Bendy said firmly. Allan seemed to relax and Bendy’s smile dropped.

“No, I’m pissed.” Bendy affirmed and Allan winced as Bendy set his phone aside.

“You made your choice and it’s clear that I’m not it.” Bendy said. “You wanted me to meet your parents. They chose a day and time where I couldn’t make it.” Bendy said and crossed his arms.

“You even lied to me about having a seat ready for when I got here.” Bendy pressed and Allan winced.

“Mom said there would be plenty when you got here.” Allan defended but Bendy shook his head.

“Well look at how that turned out.” Bendy snipped. “You lied to me and you didn’t even offer to move or even move with me.” Bendy mentioned.

“I am not going to stand for that kind of disrespect.” Bendy said. “I don’t care what they say about me, but you made it clear that you do!”

Allan winced as Bendy motioned towards the family.

“So go on Allan. Be your mothers pet!” Bendy said and glared. “But don’t expect to find anyone who will love you when you won’t stand up for them or yourself.”

Allan didn’t speak. He just got up and left the restaurant without Bendy or his family.

Bendy blocked those pesky numbers and enjoyed his meal.

Cuphead came back with his steak and Bendy laughed with him as the restaurant began to close and Allan’s family panicked.

“Bendalin Darling!” Patricia called walking over but Bendy didn’t look up from his half eaten steak. Not until they stood in front of him.

Bendy slowly looked up chewing his steak.

“Where is Allan. Why isn’t he picking up his phone!? He was supposed to cover dinner tonight.” Patricia raged and Bendy swallowed.

“That. Patricia. Is not my name.” Bendy punctuated and grabbed his wine.

“Answer me!” She shouted catching some other tables and staff’s attention.

Bendy glared at her firmly. “Maybe if you asked politely, I’d care to listen to you.” He argued and Patricia slammed her hand on his table.

“Bendalin…”

“HEY!” The two looked up to see Cuphead glaring at Patricia fiercely.

“You guy’s need to pay for the food and leave. Don’t go pestering my customers.” Cuphead said and Patricia stood tall with her nose stuck up firmly.

“I am trying to. Once Benda-“ Cuphead stepped between the two of them.

You can talk to the man at the counter. I don’t care about what it is or not that your doing!” Cuphead pointed.

“We need you people outt’a here so we can clean. Don’t go bothering other people who are eating.” He said ushering her away.

“Move it lady!” He shouted and Patricia huffed as they were led away and she was forced to pay for the dinner they all ate.

Bendy finished his steak and Cuphead walked over huffing a little as he checked on Bendy.

“Thank you.”

“Nah don’t mention it. Saw the dude run like a wimp and knew I might need to step in.” Cuphead shrugged and Bendy smiled at him fondly.

“Since you all are going to be closing up can I make one more request. It might be a bit big.” Bendy offered and Cuphead snorted.

“Shoot for the stars, doll.” Cuphead snickered and Bendy smiled before leaning in and whispering.

Cuphead’s smile shifted to surprise as Bendy offered to pay for the not so cheap desserts for the staff’s resolve. As long as he got a slice of Angel fruit cake.

Cuphead laughed and agreed taking Bendy’s card and ringing up a nice list of dessert orders for the rest of the staff that day.

After getting the receipt. Bendy finished writing and waited for Cuphead to return to hand him the receipt and watch him flip it open to stare at his tip.

“Wh-Wha. This is a lot for a tip.” Cuphead said surprised. Bendy laughed a little and smiled.

“Consider it my full-fledged thanks.” Bendy explained as he finished his dessert and got up to leave.

“Well thanks to you too.” Cuphead said and Bendy waved as Cuphead looked down at his tip and flipped through it to find a number wedged inbetween some bills like a secret.

“Aw-gee, Cuphead. What’cha got there?!” Mugman asked and Cuphead smiled wide as he tucked the money away.

“A large tip and a number to ring if I’m feeling lucky.” Cuphead said cheekily and Mugman stared surprised as he helped his brother clean up several of the tables so they could close fully.

“Gee- At least you had a swell day. Table 20 got real busy. I’m pretty sure the lady running it was insultin’ me and the chef every time I’d leave.” Mug’s muttered with a pout.

“Well considering she tried to run out on ya, I’m not surprised.” Cuphead scoffed and Mugman gasped. Asking Cuphead what the heck had happened and the two talked about the horrible mother and the strangers they met that day.
