It had been a day since Tenna got his body.

These will be one-shots.

Chapter 1: Dreams of Memories Past

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

It had been a hectic few days for Jack Ryder. He was so close to figuring out the connection between the company of his favourite soda changing their recipe and the upcoming mayoral elections. He can feel it in his bones they purposely changed it so that it'll make everyone vote for that Daniel Dickerson.

Vicki refused to listen to his theories about that Dickerson being a snake. She said a gut feeling isn't good enough. Hah! When had it failed him before? Take that!

He had been in a deep sleep, one leg hanging from the side of the mattress. One of the sheets kicked off him, hugging on the side of the mattress as if it was scared of dying if it touched the floor.

The reporter blinked between rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He could've sworn he heard something coming from the living room. What could...

Oh, yes. Maybe it's Ten snoring from the couch? Wait, can CRTs even snore, or dream?

Truth be told, the curiosity itched the back of his mind. Wouldn't be surprised Tenna would look like a supermodel even in his sleep. Or, even if he woke up in the early hours of the morning like those romantic movies. Some people have all the luck...

A low, unfamiliar guffaw reached his ears. His body immediately shot out of bed.

Who would dare try to break into the apartment of the one and only Jack Ryder?

Wait, Tenna...!

Ryder tripped over the sheet as he tried to rush towards the living room, barely stopped his fall by going on all fours. He grabbed the wall to push himself upright as he entered the living room.

He was ready to attack, heart in his throat. Tenna better be okay. If he were to lose him...

But, there was no one. No intruder. No idiot burglar or vigilante in the living room. No one putting his most precious person in danger.

Ryder crept a bit closer to the couch to check on the sleeping TV, making sure not to trip over Tenna's shoes that were sitting neatly on the floor. They looked like high-quality shoes, sticking out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the living room.

No, that's not fair. His apartment stood out like a sore thumb compared to Tenna. Studying him from head to toe, Ryder felt guilt poke his guts. That's an outfit of a showman. A rising star that lives in fame and fancy mansions, he's sure of it. The belt alone could pay rent and groceries for a few months.

Tenna deserved living on the coziest mattress and the softest, fluffiest pillows. Not getting his poor outfit dirty. He hoped the CRT-guy didn't accidentally step in a fresh stain in those socks. That always felt nasty. Ryder never cared when he did, but it's different for Tenna. He deserves better than this...

No, he didn't make a little gasp when static noises came from the TV-guy. The screen was filled with static when he took a better look. Like, when one couldn't get a good enough signal for a channel.

There was moving pictures between the static, but barely recognizable. Some garbled voices trying to come out.

Is this how Tenna dreamt? Interesting.

He didn't jump a couple inches when he heard a low guffaw coming from the TV. Wait, it's the same one he heard earlier. So, it came from him?

More static, then the sound became clearer as he heard a crowd cheering. Unfortunately, he couldn't make out the picture. It was completely snowy.

"Hahahaha, Kris, knew I could count on you!!" a voice laughed. A girl's voice. Who could that be?

"Now that we've all been (im)properly introduced..." Tenna's voice came out clear.

Oh. OOhhh! Is Tenna broadcasting one of his gameshows he hosted? Or, was Tenna dreaming about it?

While static was displayed on the TV screen, a nostalgic smile formed. No nose in sight. It's a pity. He found that nose quite charming.

Ryder felt his heart being squeezed. It didn't look right. He wants to see an actual smile. An actual smile from his most precious person. The nostalgic smile didn't suit him.

He doubts he'll be the one that'll make Tenna happy, but he'll be damned if he were to make him sad or feel unsafe.

Ryder will protect his most precious person.

He tiptoed quietly back to his bed, cursing. If he had any clean sheets, he would've covered Tenna with one. He refuses to let that outfit get dirty because of him.

The End

Notes:

Daniel Dickerson was the mayor of Gotham after No Man's Land. He wasn't well-liked and wasn't outwardly corrupt but only seeked to gain favour of Gotham's wealthy elite and had disdained for the common folk.

Tenna's dreams sometimes show through on his screen, depends on how powerful the emotion is. The poor picture quality is due to him being too far away from TV World.

Chapter 2: Clean

Summary:

After cleaning Ryder's apartment, Tenna needs to get clean too.

Notes:

For this AU, Tenna has a robotic body but synthetic skin. Can't decide if it's the same colour as his face or his TV head or a mixed colour of the two.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

As soon as Jacky left for work, Tenna looked around the apartment. What can he do to make himself useful?

Taking note of the living room, Tenna decided to roll his sleeves up and maybe start cleaning up. Where should he start? Vaccuming? Dusting?

Rubbing the back of his head, he started to remember how Toriel would sometimes spring clean. She would clean the walls and ceiling, Asgore holding the ladder as she cleans the ceiling from cobwebs. How she would apologize to his TV screen and wipe any of the dust and cobwebs that fell onto him. Eyes started to water before slapping his face.

He can do that for Jacky. He's quite tall and can reach the ceiling. After he searched for cleaning tools, he started to work.

Tenna didn't think it through, though. Dust began to coat his clothes, his screen and the floor where he stood. Cobwebs finding his antennae quite cozy to cling onto.

He stopped when he realized he couldn't see properly anymore. He wiped his screen and groaned when he noticed how his entire upper body, parts of his pants and his shoes was caked with dust.

The TV man took his jacket off, about to head off to the washing machine before he stopped. No, he can't use the washing powder. Jacky definitely needed it more than him. He would be angry if he used his washing powder. He's taken too much advantage already. He mustn't be a nuisance.

Tenna headed towards the bathroom and took his clothes off. Should he wash them in the sink, or shower? Which would be quicker? He threw his clothes in the shower and switched it on, just the right temperature and force to rinse them.

The former TV star stood by the sink to wipe the dust off of himself and his shoes gently as possible with an old, dry cloth Ryder left in a corner. He would've climbed into the shower, but he's not sure if he can get his TV head or tail wet.

After a few minutes, he switched the shower off and began to squeeze the water out. It already looked better, although not all the dust is washed out yet.

He was about to switch the shower on again when he picked up sounds of Jacky's front door unlocking.

"Tens, I'm home!" Ryder's voice called out, "Remember you told me not to forget those files I read through on the coffee table last night? Well, I just did that,"

Trying to hush the sound of static from his mouth, Tenna covered his mouth and climbed into the shower. He closed the shower curtain. No, no! he can't be seen like this! How embarrassing!

"Ten? Ten, where are you?" Jacky called again, "Are you in the kitchen?"

Little did Tenna realize, his tail is peeping out from behind the shower curtain. He was facing the other way.

"Oh, there you are," Ryder's voice sounded very close, like he was standing by the bathroom door, "What are you doing?"

Tenna felt himself overheating.

"I'm having a shower," Tenna called out, trying very hard to sound normal and nowhere as shy as he felt.

"Need help reaching your back?" Jacky's tone sounded very flirty.

"No, no! I'll be fine," Tenna's voice made a soft static whine.

"You have some clothes and towels?" Jacky's tone sounded helpful.

"Um..."

"I might have some clothes that don't fit me. They're more suited for your height," Ryder called.

"Thanks," Tenna called. After the TV man heard Ryder's footsteps head towards the bedroom, he opened the shower curtains before picking up his bundle of clothes into his arms.

It was enough to cover him up from the front so that he won't flash poor Ryder. Enough for the censors to not want to kill him.

While Tenna made sure to look good for TV, he didn't see his body as particularly attractive. He was more concerned about looking after his TV head.

Jacky might've flirted with him before, but he flirts with everyone. He would've flirted with him if he was just a talking TV.

"Ten, here's your tow-" Ryder stopped right in front of the bathroom entrance, "-el,"

"Jacky, please knock before you enter!" No, Tenna didn't squeal. Nope, nope! His tail curled around him like a shield while he hugged his wet clothes closer to him.

"Thought you'd look more like a robot," Jacky's tone was playful before he threw the towel and clothes to his poor flustered roommate, "You didn't get shocked, right?"

"No, no. Been extra careful," Tenna chuckled nervously as he caught the towel and clothes. He didn't notice Jacky's face turning red for a moment

"So, we gotta be careful if we shower together?" Ryder wiggled his eyebrows, grinning when Tenna's entire screen became a bright red, "I wish I could join you, but I need to work on this case. See you later,"

"See you," Tenna squeaked. He felt something blossom, not noticing a flower bloom from his nose.

No, Jacky's just being his teasing self. It's nothing more than that.

Nothing more than that.

The End

Notes:

Inwardly, Jack Ryder's heart and mind is racing a marathon as he accidentally walked in on Tenna being naked.

Oh no, he's even hotter than in my wildest dreams. Don't make it awkward, don't make it awkward. Gotta leave before I mess this up.

Chapter 3: Missing

Summary:

To make this week even stranger, The Gotham Gazette received a call from Ryder's roommate.

Notes:

Inspired by LizardScalesFairyTales' Putting Up A Front when Ryder had been missing for three days and didn't show up for work.

Chapter Text

"Where is Ryder?" Vicki demanded from her desk, "I couldn't get hold of him, and he doesn't return my calls. If he thinks he can just come and go as he pleases--"

"Can't we have some peace and quiet for another day before we try to contact him?" someone suggested. They winced when Vicki Vale glared.

"I try to lenient with him arriving late. He produced results, but this in unacceptable," the editor rubbed her temples in frustration.

Amongst the noise, a phone rang and had been answered nearby Vicki's table.

"Hello. Yes, this is the Gotham Gazette. You're looking for Jack Ryder?"

"If he bit someone, please give them the contact to our lawyer," Vicki sighed.

"It's Ryder's roommate. He wanted to know if Ryder's at work today,"

A pin drop could be heard the moment the word roommate had been uttered.

"No, we haven't seen him. Yes, we'll let you know if we see him. Your name, pl--he put the phone down,"

"--Ryder has a roommate? Since when?" Vera asked, her head peeking from a corner.

As if getting the hottest gossip of the lifetime, the entire office started loudly whispering.

This is news. Big news!

The End

Chapter 4: Bed

Summary:

"I don't think this is working for us," Tenna's face was static, refusing to glance at Ryder.
"But Ten, just give it a chance," Ryder pleaded.

Notes:

Oh, dear.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"I don't think this is working for us," Tenna's face was static, refusing to glance at Ryder.
"But Ten, just give it a chance," Ryder pleaded.
"No, Jacky," Tenna pleaded, "I can't do this,"
"But, Ten,"

"Jacky, I can't let you sleep on the floor while I take the bed," Tenna sounded sad as he rolled to his side to look down at Ryder, "Besides, I'm too big for the bed,"
"It's fine," Ryder insisted, "I made sure the bed is so clean you can eat off of it. Don't worry your pretty head over it,"
"This is your room," Tenna pointed out as he gestured around, "I'm fine sleeping on the couch,"
"No, you need a room too. The living room is where we watch TV,"

"That means the living room is my room," Tenna pointed out as he pointed at its direction.
"You can share my room. You're my roommate," Ryder grinned at his pun. Tenna tried to cover his mouth to stifle a laugh, but giggles slipped through. Ryder felt warmth crept up in his chest. He hoped he'll hear more of it.

"I don't want to intrude your space," the TV star admitted before he looked up at the ceiling.
"No, nonsense. You'll never intrude my space. In fact, you can intrude mine anytime,"
"Jacky," Tenna whined as his entire screen became pink, trying to hide it with his arms.

"How about we divide the room up," Ryder suggested, "I don't have much, so I easily rearrange the furniture,"
"Oh, maybe we could have curtains, or folding screens?" Tenna suggested as he played a DIY recording of someone dividing their living room up.
"We can get some furniture, bed, clo--" Ryder paused, "Wait, you don't have any extra clothes besides some of mine that are too big for me,"

"Oh, that's okay," Tenna waved nonchalantly.
"No, it's not!" Ryder felt shame wash over him. He couldn't believe it. The most important person in his life living with such minimalism. Ten deserved the world, "Tomorrow, I'll start looking for furniture for your side of the room,"
"Oh, I don't want you to waste money on me--"
"No, I won't," Ryder, "It won't be a waste,"
"Jack--"
"Let's sleep. Night, Tens,"
"Night, Jacky,"

Ryder will make sure Tenna will get the best.

The End.

Notes:

Ryder only wants to divide the room since he thinks Tenna would want some privacy.

Chapter 5: Mattress

Summary:

Ryder couldn't believe his ears. Kent wanted to get rid of a mattress. How to ask him without looking like an idiot?

Chapter Text

Ryder couldn't believe his ears. Kent wanted to get rid of a mattress. How to ask him without looking like an idiot?

"But, Lois, no one wants such a large mattress," Kent pointed out as he typed out his report while she went through her notes, "It takes up too much space,"
"Smallville, it's just gathering dust," Lane pointed out softly as she went through the report's notes, "Ever since we got a bed to share,"

"Get a room, you two," Ryder jeered from his desk, "It's too early for that disgusting mushy stuff from you two,"

"Bite me, Ryder," Kent muttered as he typed out the report. His wife blinked, "Deadline's more important than fighting with him,"
"Don't mock it before you try it," Lane scoffed at Ryder, "Never needed to have a hot water bottle ever since I share a bed with Smallville,"

Ryder muttered something under his breath, which caused both Kent and Lane to raise an eyebrow.
"What?" he barked, giving them a glare.
"Did Vicki finally muzzle you?" Kent smirked, "She did seem upset after the meeting she had with you,"
"As if anyone can," Ryder scoffed, looking a bit distracted.

If it were any other day, he would gladly rip the two a new one. But, they have something Tenna needed for his room. How to ask them without sounding awkward. He ignored them whispering amongst themselves about someone's heartbeat being frantic.

"So, the best of Metropolis can't even get rid of some musty old mattress?" he scoffed at them, "I know how,"
"No, there's no hidden devices in there," Smallville began, "It's still in good condition. It doesn't need to be ripped open by you,"
"Who says I'll rip it open?"
"We know you,"
"Why do you want this mattress, anyway?" Lois asked as she rested her chin on her fist as she leaned forward, "You never seemed interested in me and Smallville's small talk before,"

"I'm offering to get rid of that mattress for ya," Ryder pointed out, "No other reason,"
"Out of the goodness of your heart," Lois scoffed, "You want something. Spill it,"
"My mattress' spring started poking me lately," he added, "Feels like your husband's punches,"

Lois was about to strangle Ryder when Clark gently placed his hand on her shoulder. No. Not worth it.
"Alright, it's a deal. Do you want to collect it, or should we take it to your place?"
"Drop it off at my place after work. Phone before you arrive, though,"

"Don't worry, we won't visit," Lane scoffed, "We'll get outta there before you know we're there,"
"Good. Better stay that way,"

Ryder struggled to hide his grin. Tenna would be so happy.

The End.

Chapter 6: Sensitive

Summary:

Ryder wants to check if Tenna can defend himself, but discovered something interesting (and funny)

Notes:

This is just silly fluff with some sadness. Tenna didn't know he's ticklish since no one would even dare hug him, let alone try tickling the TV host.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Jacky, I don't want to fight you," Tenna looked down, arms behind his back.
"Tens, you can't hurt me," Ryder insisted as he leaned back on the couch, "Besides, I just want to see how you can defend yourself if something were to happen when I'm not here. Can't be too careful,"

"I can just use my magic to stop them," Tenna insisted as Jacky leapt to his feet.
"What if your magic doesn't work on them?"
"..." the screen turned black as a frowny mouth appeared. The nose vanished.
"Please. Just one spar. Just stop me and then we're done,"

Tenna's antennae wiggled as he pondered for a moment.
"Alright," he nodded, getting into his battle pose, "Don't say I didn't warn you,"

No, Ryder didn't get dirty thoughts when he saw those fangs. No. Nope. He charged, ready to give Tenna a punch. The TV guy swiftly stopped it by grabbing it before trying to give Ryder a roundabout kick. Ryder ducked, but was surprised when his sparring partner leaped high in the air.

Tenna did the splits midair, about to slap his hands before stopping. The TV guy landed gracefully on the floor like he's an Olympic gymnast that scored gold several times.
"Oh, I was about to use my magic," he laughed as he rubbed the back of his head shyly, "Sorry,"

Seeing his opening, Ryder quickly grabbed Tenna by his waist. He felt his roommate flinched at the touch. He hesitated.
"Did I hurt you?" No, Ryder didn't just panic inside.

"No," Tenna sounded confused as he rubbed his waist, "It just felt strange,"
"Strange?" Ryder raised a brow.
"Never felt this before strange," the TV man looked confused as he grabbed his own waist, "Doesn't happen when I do it,"

"Huh," the reporter felt his curiosity piqued. His instincts tell him he has to investigate this, "Do you think something's wrong with your body?"
"I don't know. Never felt this before," Tenna sounded concerned, "Maybe there is?"

"Let's see," Ryder rubbed his chin as he circled around Tenna. He gently grabbed Tenna's waist again. This time, the showman squirmed.

Ryder could barely hide his grin. He figured it out. A silly, childish thought crossed his mind. He raised his hands up and wiggled his fingers at Tenna, only to receive a blank expression.
"What are you doing?" the voice sounded confused and lost.
"Here comes the Tickle Monster," Ryder wiggled his fingers before his shoulders sagged, "C'mon, don't tell me you don't have games like that when you came from,"

"We do," Tenna admitted, "The family did it at times,"
"Never to you, though?" Ryder rubbed his fingers through his hair. Did Tenna have a family full of television head people back where he came from?
"No, I never joined in. Only during TV time was I part of the family," Tenna had a sad smile, "Besides them, my crew would only dare shake hands with me. Kept it professional,"

Was Tenna the black sheep or scape goat of the family? Only allowed to be seen during TV time? That sucks. The crew thing makes sense. No way would Jack fucking Ryder ever dare become buddy-buddy with his coworkers like that.

No wonder Tenna looked sad whenever there was a story about a happy family enjoying each other's company. No one excluded.

Seeing Tenna hugging himself made Ryder's chest feel sore. How to make him feel better...ah, ha!

"Well, there is something the matter with your body," Jacky tried to sound serious.
"Oh, no. What?" Tenna sounded worried.
"You are," Ryder leaned forward and wiggled his fingers over Tenna's sides, "Ticklish!"

"Wh-Jackhehhe--noho!" Tenna's reaction was immediate. His laughter a mix of static and genuine laughter. Not a showman's laugh, but his real laugh.
"You need a double dose of tickles," Jacky teased as he continued to look for spots, his grin wide, "Doctor Jacky's orders!"

After a minute, he stopped. The TV man continued to giggle a bit before he stopped.
"Well, at least someone's having fun," Tenna tried to sound annoyed, but a grin betrayed his feelings.

"I sure did. I invented a new game: Tickle the TV," Ryder joked, chuckling as Tenna looked embarrassed.

The End

Notes:

Ryder misunderstood the whole deal about the family.

Chapter 7: Delivery

Summary:

The mattress had been delivered, with a surprise.

Notes:

Juicy gossip's brewing at the Gotham Gazette. What Lois and Clark heard is just the tip of the iceberg.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Do we really need the furniture dolly for this?" Clark asked as he stood at the bottom of the stairway "I can get all these up at Ryder's in seconds,"
"Do you want to freak Ryder's poor roommate if he suddenly notice the mattress and bedframe appear from thin air?" Lois smirked while Clark starting to use the dolly.

"Do you really believe those rumours?" Clark asked, already halfway up the stairs.
"Which ones? That he kidnapped some poor soul to force him to be a roommate? That he bribed someone to phone Vicki to make it look like he was kidnapped? They all sound plausible," Lois ticked them off with her fingers
"Those too, but why does he want this mattress?" Clark patted the side.
"Maybe to impress someone?" Lane smirked.
"Like who, this new roommate?" Clark raised a brow.
"Who else?" Lois playfully fluttered her eyelashes before cackling.

"Maybe it's just some fool that didn't know what he got himself in for when he answered Ryder's ad?" Lois shrugged as they reach the top of the stairs.
"Someone that doesn't run away from the state of his apartment?"
"Exactly!"

Clark stood in front of Ryder's door and knocked.
"We're here," he called out. Clark heard hushed voices and two pairs of footsteps. One went to the other side of the apartment while the familiar steps approached the front door before it opened.
"What happened to just dropping the mattress off, Kent?" Ryder scoffed, arms folded.

"What happened to basic manners?" Lane bit back, "Besides, do you really think you can move all this inside on your own?"
"Well, yeah," Ryder grinned as he puffed his chest out.
"The dolly and the covering is ours," Clark pointed out, "We'll move this to where you want them, take our things and leave,"

Ryder blocked the entrance with his arms and body as he glared at both thorns in his side.
"You can take your dolly and whatever else and I'll take the mattress inside,"
"And the bedframe?" Clark scoffed.
"Yeah, that too,"
"Ungrateful little--" Lois snapped.
"You did say you were just gonna drop it off and leave. You broke your --what are you trying to look at?" Ryder tried to sound bored as he scoffed, but his heart raced a bit as Kent tried to look over his shoulder and into his apartment.

"Fine, fine. Here's your mattress and bedframe. Thanks for getting it out of our hair," Lane huffed in annoyance, "Come, Smallville,"

Ryder slammed the door shut as he waited for them to leave. As soon as he was sure the coast was clear, he opened the front door and picked the mattress up. No, he wouldn't dare let it get dirty.

"Want some help?" Tenna asked from the kitchen.
"Nah, just make the place better by sitting pretty," Ryder called, "I'll manage,"

Jacky grinned as he heard Tenna protest shyly he's not pretty.

The End

Notes:

Ryder began panicking since he wanted to hide Tenna. He panicked more since he's worried about his roommate being spotted.

Chapter 8: Clothing/Rumours

Summary:

Rumours are spreading.

Notes:

Amazing how rumours spread.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"So, why do you want to see me on the roof?" Ryder asked the shadows that slowly morphed into a bat-like figure. Showoff, "If you want a new gargoygle to sit on, don't sit on that one there. It looks like Joker's ass,"

"I heard the rumours," Batman stated.
"Not you too," Ryder raised his arms in defeat, "For the last time, I didn't say I can beat Riddler's riddles faster than him. I said I can clock his head off his shoulders faster than he can say his riddles. Big difference,"

The Bats' eyes narrowed for a moment.
"No, there's a rumour you have a roommate,"
"..." Ryder didn't turn pale. No, nope.
"Where did you hear it from?" the tone was dangerous. Ryder felt his heartbeat in his ears.

"From more than one source,"
"From what source?" Ryder poked Batman hard on the chest, anger hiding fear.
"Some people from your workplace. Your roommate phoned your office during the time when you were gone. He said he's your roommate,"

"What makes you so sure it's not someone playin' a prank, huh?" Ryder pointed out, "Maybe Falcone hired someone to say they're my roommate to spread rumours?"

There was silence for a moment before Batman took out a device. He pressed a button.
"Hey, Jacky," a very familiar voice can be heard from the recording, "If you get this message, please phone back. It's me, your roommate. Bye! Um, what button must I press to switch off? This? Or this? Damnit, damnit. Stupid phone,"

"Where did you get this?" Ryder demanded, "Did you bug my apartment? Don't get him involved your kinky voyeurism shit!"
"Ryder," the tone was surprisingly gentle, "I only found out when I picked up a signal from your apartment while you were missing. I first thought someone broke in until I listened in. It was your roommate's phone. He sounded quite worried about you,"

"Yeah. Yeah, he does," Ryder nodded, "You better not stalk him, Bats. He's a good guy. A guy that needed a place to stay so he became my roommate,"
"If he's looking for work, I may have some job openings for him at Wayne Enterprises," Bats offered the reporter a business card, "Just call this number and I can make arrangements,"
"You accept my word, just like that?" Ryder frowned, "You aren't planning something, are you?"

"Here," Batman offered him a fancy card, "This is a card for your friend to buy clothes from a tailor I know. They usually make costumes for superheroes, so they'll know to keep your friend's identity a secret,"
"What makes you think I'm keeping his identity a secret?" the reporter squinted in suspicion as he took the card. It looks like a special card for billionaires. Show-off.
"Almost no one ever met your roommate. Either he's very shy, or he stands out in some way. He never mentioned his name,"

"Good. Gotta keep him safe from the scumbags in Gotham. They're everywhere," Ryder waved around before he stared up at the sky.
"He has a wonderful voice," Batman smirked.
"Yeah, he does. Wonderful everth--hey! Don't change the topic like th--," Ryder turned around "--huh?"

Batman had vanished.

"Great. Bats knows about Tens without seeing him and there's rumours about Tens that I don't even know about," Ryder grabbed his face in frustration.

The End

Notes:

Batman learnt about Tenna differently in this AU, with some information missing (how he looks like)

Chapter 9: Monster

Summary:

Ryder and Tenna get ready for bed.

Notes:

They got a bed for Tenna, but there's one problem...

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Kent should have least given us some sheets and pillows for your bed," Ryder grumbled from his mattress.

"Oh, it's fine," Tenna gave a dismissive wave as he covered himself up with the sheet Jacky gave him, "I'm fine like this,"

"Your feet aren't even covered with the sheet and you have no socks on," Ryder pointed out, "The monster under the bed will grab you by your feet and pull you under,"

"They won't be able to," the TV man laughed as he knocked the side of his CRT head, "My head's too big,"

"You can't be too careful," Ryder shrugged playfully, "They might be looking for cute TVs to kidnap,"

"I'm not cute," Tenna tried to hide his blush.

"No, you're not cute," Ryder agreed. For a moment Tenna had a hurt expression for half a second that Ryder didn't notice,"You're quite handsome. A supermodel from the tips of your antennae to the tips of your toes. Won't blame any monster if they try to kidnap you for themselves. I know I would if I was a monster,"

Tenna made a strange static sound, entire screen bright pink from blushing. His smile was shy. He tried to hide it with the pillow too small for his head.
"Oh, you're just saying that," he laughed.
"I must say it more often," Ryder wiggled his brows, "Who else can say they have a TV with such a nice ass? Hey!"

Tenna threw his pillow at Ryder, trying to look annoyed.
"You need to sleep," he insisted, trying to mask his blush with fake anger.
"And we need to go shopping after work," Ryder insisted, "Clothes, pillows, everything for you. No buts! See it as thanks for the dinners and the cleaning,"
"But, how? I can't just make my head look like a human's,"
"We can figure it out tomorrow. Night, Tens,"
"Okay. Night, Jacky. Don't let the monsters bite,"

"Kinky!"
"Jacky!"

The End

Notes:

Based on the folklore the monster under the bed will grab you by your feet and pull you into their realm if you hang your feet off the edge of the bed.

Chapter 10: Nightmare

Summary:

Nightmares and fears.

Notes:

This was supposed to be part of the previous chapter, but it didn't flow nicely.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Ten, Ten?" Ryder called out in the dark void, "Where are you?"

A spotlight switched on and shone on Tenna, him a few feet away.

"Jacky, I'm leaving," Tenna glared at him. The same glares he only saw before with his exes.

He never felt pain like this before. Like his heart literally being squeezed.

"Why? Why, Tenna?" Jacky fell onto his knees hard, looking up. Ten's face didn't soften. It actually hardened. He crawled towards Tenna and hugged the TV's ankles, not daring to let go, "Please, don't!"

"It's simple, Jack," Tenna's tone became bitter, "I realized you were just using me to clean your apartment up and to be eye-candy for you to ogle over. I deserved better,"
"No, no! It's not like that! I enjoy your company. You can sit and do nothing all day and I will be happy,"
"Oh, so I'm just eye-candy?"
"Your looks are a bonus," he admitted before realizing it's the wrong thing to say when he noticed the glare.

How can a TV even give a glare like that without any eyes?
"You finally admitted it," Tenna's voice broke into static, "You finally admitted it. Let go,"
"No, no. You can't leave,"
"Bye, Jack Ryder. You couldn't even keep me," Tenna sighed before he vanished like mist.

***

"mhm?" Tenna sleepily murmured as he was roused from his sleep. What woke him up?
"--Dntdht," Ryder mumbled as he tossed and turned in his bed, "Tnnh! no,"
"Jacky?" Tenna whispered before he got up from bed and approached Ryder's mattress, "Hey, you're having a bad dream,"

"Dnnt go," Ryder begged, still fast asleep, reaching out for something.
"Ssh, I'm here," Tenna cooed before he leaned over to rub Jacky's head soothingly, "I'm here,"
"Tens?" Ryder opened his eyes, not really focused on anything. Was he still dreaming? Was he awake?
"Shtay, pleashe," Jacky whined sleepily as he grabbed his roommate's arm, "Shtay,"
"
Tenna's expression softened. It reminded him of the times Kris or Asriel had a nightmare and they would head towards the living room while their mom was watching one of her cooking shows. They would ask if they could stay with her and she agreed. They would cuddle until they felt safe again.

"I will stay," The TV man cooed before he climbed into the bed and cuddled the reporter close to his chest. He began to hum a gentle lullaby, singing voice a lot softer and soothing compared to his normal voice. Despite the difference, it's still him, "Not going anywhere,"

Morning arrived. Ryder tried to get up, but noticed something was hugging him close. Eyes shot open before he realized it's Tenna. His roommate stirred before waking up.
"Morning, sleepyhead," Jacky's grin hid his nerves, "Fancy seeing you here,"
"Hmh?" Tenna murmured before he a made a static sound of confusion, "Oh!"

"So-sorry!!" the TV man stuttered in embarrassment as he shot out of bed, "I guess I must've fallen asleep after the nightmare,"
"Oh, you only climbed into my bed for comfort? Nothing more?" Ryder teased, tone flirty.
"N--no--it's--not--!!" Tenna's entire screen glowed red as he waved his arms in protest, "--I--hmhph! Just trying to--nevermind! It's nothing--"

The TV guy seemed to have shrunk a bit.
"Tens?" the reporter felt his heart clench, "Y'okay?"
"...'m gonna make breakfast," Tenna's voice was small. He didn't dare look at Ryder's direction as he rushed towards the kitchen.
"Wait, Ten!" Ryder called after him, "I was just--Ten, wait!"

Jacky rushed after him, confusion and fear boiling in him.

"What happened?" Jacky called out again as he ran into the kitchen.
"Nothing happened. Forget it," Tenna shook his head, "We'll be having a busy day and I need this done,"
"Tens?"
"Please drop it. I need to get your breakfast ready. Go have a shower," Tenna's tone was flat.

"Okay, okay. I will," Ryder headed towards the bathroom.

What made Tenna so upset? He usually took the flirting and innuendoes with stride before. He never complained when Ryder flirted. His roommate usually acted like someone that never had been flirted with before.

Could it be he never liked them?

The End

Notes:

Just platonic cuddling between two roommates that turned into whatever this mess is.

Chapter 11: Confusion

Summary:

Why was Tenna upset?

Notes:

Hurt feelings and confusion.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

After his shower, Ryder had been greeted with a wonderful breakfast.
"Eat up," Tenna announced, tone flat. His screen was blank and the mouth had a neutral expression. The nose was gone.

"Thanks," Ryder tried to smile, but stopped when Tenna turned his attention to his own breakfast, ignoring him.

They ate in silence. Uncomfortable silence.

"I picked your work clothes and tie for today," Tenna piped up as his tone became close to normal; a bit forced, "Hope it's to your taste,"
"I'm sure they will," Ryder grinned, hopeful. Does this mean his most precious treasure is no longer upset with him?

"Will you pick me up after work?" the showman asked in a small voice after Jacky got up to get changed.
"Yeah, like we agreed. I'll help you with the clothes and disguise," the reporter nodded.
"Alright," Tenna gave a small nod before Jacky headed to their room and got changed.

After a few minutes, Ryder quickly left in the outfit Tenna picked for him. Brown suit, white dress shirt, dark chocolate dress shoes. The tie brown with tiny yellow hearts. They look like speckles from afar.

Ryder waved Tenna goodbye and rushed out with his bag and the lunch Tenna made for him. As soon as he knew Jacky was definitely too far to hear him, Tenna made a loud static squeal.

"Ant, you idiot!" he screamed at himself, "We're just cuddling, nothing more! Jacky's just teasing like normal. Don't expect more from him. Don't be so selfish. Don't embarrass him and tell him you were comforting him after he had a bad dream,"

After a few moments of fighting with himself, Tenna decided to get changed into his clothes. Looking around the apartment, he decided to start vacuuming the living room.

Notes:

Tenna's feelings are confusing, even for him.

Chapter 12: Cute

Summary:

Ryder thinking about what happened earlier that morning while his coworkers noticed how smartly he dressed.

Notes:

Jacky feeling guilty.

Chapter Text

Ryder couldn't concentrate as he sat at his desk. The reporter kept reading the same sentence over-and-over again. It even jumbled into a brand-new sentence half-way.

What happened earlier this morning? Why did Tenna cuddle with him in bed? Why would anyone want to cuddle with Jack fucking Ryder?

Racking through his memories, he can't remember any moments where the TV man would try to initiate touch. He never seemed to mind when Ryder did. No, Ryder didn't feel his chest bloom from happiness when he got Tenna to laugh the moment he accidentally found out his roommate is ticklish. Ryder knew other people would've punched or snapped at him if he did that to them.

Did Tenna enjoy it when Ryder flirted with him? He never complained before. Jacky felt something tighten in his ribcage. He loved making his TV blush and playfully protest. That smile Tenna tried to hide.

Maybe Tenna's one of those people that are secretly cuddlers? Too embarrassed to admit he wanted and needed a hug?

Ryder wasn't really one to do touchy-feely mushy stuff. He knew most people would be disgusted if they were to touch him, unless to punch or slap the reporter.

But, he's willing to be more touchy-feely to make his roommate feel better. Hugs he can do. Playful pats. Massages. Literally cuddling on the couch or bed. He can do that. Tenna deserves it.

While Ryder was deep in thought, he didn't notice the commotion around him. Some people glanced at him, actually more at what he's wearing,

"He's dressed quite smartly," Vicki whispered to Vera, "Colours not clashing. Tie actually looks nice. Hair more neat than normal. It can only mean one thing,"
"A date?"
"No, he's not like that, remember? He must be dressed for an interview," Vicki hissed, "Somewhere bigger and better than the Gotham Gazette,"

"One of our competitions?" Vera pondered.
"Someone that isn't scared off by Ryder's reputation," Vicki held her head, "Someone that knows Ryder's worth,"
"Do you really believe so? Ryder's been here for years. He's a more permanent mark of the Gazette than the coffee stain in the kitchen," Vera scoffed.

"Do you really think Ryder would stay here, unless he got a better offer somewhere else?" Vicki pointed out, frowning as she watched Ryder got up to get coffee.

He didn't make a quip as he passed her, deep in thought. Her eyes trailed down to his tie for a moment. Wait, those are actually hearts? It's actually cute.

Ryder doesn't do cute.

Is the competition he's having an interview with a place he's eager to work for? Willing to even wear that tie to impress them?

The End

Chapter 13: Disguise

Summary:

"Where did you get the wedding veil from, Tens?"

Notes:

Shopping time.

Chapter Text

"Where did you get the wedding veil from, Tens?" Ryder asked as he and Tenna peeped around the corner from the boutique, both in disguise.
"It's not a veil," Tenna made a static sound, entire TV head covered with a lace tablecloth and comically tiny bowler hat, "It's a tablecloth I found while I was tidying up,"

"What, the bowler hat not enough to disguise your head?" Jacky teased. Tenna huffed in pretend annoyance as he lifted the cloth up a bit.
"It matches perfectly with the outfit you picked me," the showman twirled around to demonstrate, "And we look like a set,"
"Like we're getting married?" Ryder's tone was flirtatious, but there was also a hint of hope in there.

Ryder led Tenna towards the boutique, taking note of anyone that could be suspicious. He gave a glare to anyone that stared too long at Tenna, or Tenna's veil.

"Jacky," Tenna sounded quite flustered, "We're not even dating yet,"
"Um?" Jacky blinked as he turned to the taller man, "You say something?"
"..." Tenna made a low TV hum for a moment, "You don't want to go to that place your friend suggested for us to go?"
"Those clothes are tacky," Ryder shivered in disgust, "They'll make it look like a rainbow puked on ya,"

After a moment, one of the employees approached them. Ryder explained his friend needed a wardrobe that suits his body-type, including comfy sleepwear and loungewear. Tenna tried to insist he doesn't need a new wardrobe, but Jacky insisted it's a belated birthday gift. Ryder tried to hide the signs that said ninety-eight to ninety-nine percent off from Tenna, but the TV man noticed them but didn't say anything.

Tenna tried to turn down some of the items as he felt overwhelmed, but Ryder would put them back on top of the pile. A blossom bloomed from Tenna's nose while Ryder paid for the clothes.

They took the shopping bags to the car before they went to their next stop. In the end, Ryder took Tenna to various stores to buy some home decors, furniture, sheets and pillows for the bed. Whatever made Tenna happy, Jacky bought it for him. All of them were ninety-eight to ninety-nine percent off due to the business closing down. Tenna didn't say anything.

It made Ryder feel good seeing Tenna so happy. Not even the car groaning from the heavy load could dampen his mood when they went back home.

"Let me help you with taking these bags inside," Ryder offered as he carried several bags upstairs, "I'll be going out later for work,"
"Oh, it's no problem," Tenna insisted as he carried several bags of his own, "I'm stronger than I look,"

"Have you decided whether you'll take my friend's job offer?" Ryder asked as he unlocked the door and gestured for Tenna to enter first.
"I'm not really good in the office," Tenna admitted, "I'm a bad boss,"
"Do people take advantage of your generosity?" Jacky frowned.
"..." the TV man looked away while he appeared to have shrunk an inch, "..."

"...I only have experience as a showman," Tenna admitted as he and Jacky took more items into the apartment until everything was inside. The TV man took the cloth and bowler hat off his head.
"If I hear anything about someone looking for a hot gameshow host, I'll tell you first thing," Ryder grinned as he placed the last furniture item where Tenna wanted it to be placed, "I hafta go out now. Don't wait up for me,"

"Thanks for all this," Tenna's voice was wobbly with emotion, "I'll make your favourite for dinner. You can heat it up when you get back,"
"Looking forward to it, Tens," Ryder grinned before he left.

After Ryder left, Tenna started preparing his dear Jacky's dinner.

Little did he know, someone's watching from outside.

Chapter 14: Mistake

Summary:

A mistake.

Chapter Text

"Ladies and gentlemen, the show you have all been waiting for," a voice called out from the darkness before a spotlight shone on them to reveal the Riddler dressed in his trademark clothes, "Broadcasting live from a studio only the Batman can find,"

The camera panned. A drumroll as two goons dragged in someone that was tied in a chair. A gigantic sackcloth covering the not-struggling man's upper body.
"Now, tonight's a special episode for our special guest," Riddler gestured at the camera, "Our special guest insisted he's smarter than me. I doubt that, but how about we make it a game?"

A switch had been turned on, revealing a gameshow set. Riddler stood in front of the neon sign and read the glowing letters.
"The game challenge is, 'Are You Smarter Than The Riddler?'" the man smirked, "The contestant and I will be competing to see who answers the questions first. They will vary from simple trivia to much harder questions. Whoever wins will prove their superior intellect. The loser will not see the dawn of a new day,"

The Riddler gestured for the goons to drag the chair closer to the buzzer.
"That's more than fair. Isn't that right, Mr. Jack Ryd--" the man grinned while the goons removed the sackcloth,"--er?"

Music stopped.

"Who are you?" Riddler blinked in surprise, "You're not Ryder. You idiots. Who did you kidnap?!"
"He was in Ryder's apartment. You said he has a big head," one goon pointed out.
"No, not literally, you idiots!" Riddler fumed before he pointed his cane at the captured man, "You there, what's your name?"

The man looked up. What really stood out was his head. Well, the TV he had for his head. It had a face.
"My name's Tenna," he greeted before he beamed, "I'm so happy to meet a fellow gameshow host!"

Riddler blinked in surprise at this strange turn of events.

Chapter 15: Worry

Summary:

"C'mon, Bats, how much longer must we wait?!"

Notes:

Ryder discovered Tenna had been kidnapped.

Chapter Text

"C'mon, Bats, how much longer must we wait?!" Ryder demanded as he paced frantically on the rooftop.
"Just a few more minutes," Batman stated as he fiddled with the device, "I'm busy pinpointing the exact location where Riddler's broadcasting,"
"Make it faster!" Ryder snapped, hands grabbing his head. A chuckle started to bubble from his chest before he swallowed it down, "Tenna might be in trouble,"

The Dark Knight used this moment to pull out a device that showed the live broadcast. Tenna and Riddler actually seem to be having fun.

"He's actually doing well," Batman mused out loud, "Your roommate's answered the questions at the same time as Nygma. He's even given him tips on how to make the gameshow even better while the Riddler is taking notes. The live broadcast is currently the most watched program the entire week,"
"It's a tie?" Ryder began to scratch his back, "Ten's quite bright. He picks up things quite quickly. What would happen if he won?"

"Nygma won't accept it," Batman admitted, "He might respect it, but won't accept it. It's possible Riddler won't let your friend go ---,"
"No, mine," Ryder began to lowly chuckle as his eyes glowed green, "Not Riddler's. Mine. Mine,"
"Ryder--" Batman began, but it was too late as the reporter transformed into the Creeper.

The form was different than normal. Eyes glowing green, angry expression, teeth almost appear sharper, low snarls. His laugh was low and brought a chill up Batman's spine.
"Where's the TV man?" Creeper growled dangerously. He gave one glance at Batman's device before he leaped into the air.

Creeper ignored Batman shouting after him as he rushed towards his destination, his laughter sending chills into the core of anyone who heard it.

The End

Chapter 16: Win

Summary:

The gameshow's a smash hit.

Notes:

Tenna's having fun.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The gameshow became viral. Riddler didn't just broadcast in Gotham, but the entire world as Nygma wanted to initially embarrass Ryder. The people were intrigued and cheered when the TV-headed man proved himself to be quite quick-witted.

People were in awe as the man used some type of magic over the course of the gameshow. There were bouncing letters to announce the next question, confetti and balloons whenever a question was answered correctly. His screen would show stylized logos that would do all sorts of animations. The TV man oozed charisma of a veteran gameshow host.

Tenna can feel it. An audience larger than he ever experience before. His powers stronger than ever. Without meaning to, he even took over the gameshow and asked Riddler questions. Nygma was annoyed at first, but Tenna easily won him over.

They were chatting, making playful banter. One would've thought they were the best of friends.

"Mr. Nygma, I think we should end this broadcast. It's getting late," Tenna suggested, "It's been five hours now,"
"No, my dear Mr. Tenna," Nygma started as he wagged his finger, "We mustn't disappoint the audience,"
"You have a point," the TV man nodded, "But, people can get tired of us if we keep broadcasting. We can do it another time,"
"What makes you think they'll get tired of us? We're famous! They can witness our genius. My intellect and your charisma,"

Tenna's antennae sagged for a bit, his screen blank.
"I learnt from experience," he admitted as he got up, "You need a variety of gameshows and other variety shows to keep your audience,"
"Nonsense. You're not going anywhere," Riddler pleaded as he grabbed Tenna's wrist, "Please don't,"

"Let go, please," Tenna pleaded as he didn't want to use unnecessary force.
"Don't go! Please," Riddler begged, "I need you. I know you want this too,"
"I--" Tenna began, "You have a point. But, I think my roommate's worried where I am,"
"Tenna, stay," Riddler begged, "The world's finally taking note of us. You must stay here with me forev--oof!,"

Riddler was suddenly knocked down by a powerful kick when Creeper crashed in. He also kicked the live broadcast equipment, the live-feed immediately down.

"Not your TV man!" Creeper growled dangerously, eyes glowing green as he lifted Tenna up bridal style, "My TV man,"
"What the--what the? Woh, hey!!" Tenna squealed in surprise and happiness, "You're so strong, R--Mr. Creeper!"

Creeper continued to glare at Riddler, eyes glowing as he continued to growl dangerously. He hugged Tenna closer to him as Batman appeared in a puff of smoke and handcuffed Riddler.
"Found Mr. TV man fair and square," Creeper actually pouted as he turned back to the normal Creeper form, "Get your own hot TV man. This one's mine and I'll never let him go!"

"You mean that, Jacky?" Tenna was touched as he wrapped his arms around Creeper's shoulders to give him a hug. The goofiest grin appeared on Creeper, blushing.
"Hell, yeah!" Creeper grinned as he hugged Tenna back, "You're my--"

Creeper was interrupted as he transformed back into Ryder.
"Let's go home, Tens," Jacky smiled, "It must've been a long day,"
"Yeah, let's go home," Tenna agreed,

The End

Notes:

Tenna was in two minds. He wanted to continue the show, but he also wanted to tend to his own Lightner. Riddler loves having such a spotlight on him to display his genius.

Creeper was scarier than usual since it's Ryder's jealous side coming out.

Thought this is a good place to end it.

Chapter 17: Comfort

Summary:

Ryder's heart couldn't stop racing in his ribcage. The fear he felt when he realized Tenna was kidnapped.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Ryder's heart couldn't stop racing in his ribcage. The fear he felt when he realized Tenna was kidnapped when he arrived home. He frantically called Batman, which is when he found out about Riddler had kidnapped his roommate. How dare anyone kidnap his TV! Creeper even came out, despite his hardest not to.

"Jacky, I'm fine," Tenna gave Ryder a gentle pat on his shoulder while hugging the reporter as his roommate continued to hug him while they were sitting on the couch, "Just a bit tired and a bit spooked, but I'm alright,"
"I can feel your heart racing," Jacky admitted as he hugged the man closer, soothingly rubbing the top of Tenna's head. That's what friends do to comfort each other, right?
"Your heart's racing just as fast," the TV man's voice became gentler as his hug became tighter, "It's beating faster now,"

"Must be the hottest TV with the hottest ass I know hugging me," Ryder grinned as he watched Tenna's screen became hot-pink. The nose disappeared as the mouth became a shy smile.
"You--" Tenna playfully swatted the top of Ryder's head while his screen became pinker,"--I'm the only TV with legs,"
"And the only TV I know that cuddled in bed with me," Jacky grinned before he noticed Tenna looked away, "Tens?"

Ryder felt guilt bubble inside him as Tenna's face became static as a sad smile appeared on the screen.
"You were having a nightmare," Tenna's voice was soft and gentle, "I wasn't sure how to comfort you, so I hugged you and sang a lullaby. Like how my family used to do with the kids. I guess I fell asleep. Sorry about that,"

"I don't mind, Tens," Ryder quickly tried to pick an excuse that doesn't make him sound like a loser,"Just surprised you'd cuddled with me. My mattress wasn't comfortable for you,"
"Not at all?" Tenna sounded surprised and hopeful, "I thought you don't like people touching you?"
"Only people I like and consider good friends can touch and hug me," Jacky pointed out, "Like how we're hugging now,"

Ryder's smile was goofy for a moment as Tenna's tail wagged frantically while the TV's screen wore the biggest smile.
"You really like me?" Tenna's voice was hopeful. Ryder didn't know why, but a wave of sadness washed over him. Was he really such a bad person he treated Tenna badly by accident?

"Of course. You're my best roommate, best friend and best TV," Jacky grinned, but he felt sadness at the pit of his stomach. He desperately wanted to tell Tenna he's his entire world, but what if that'll scare him off?
"You're my best friend too!" Tenna beamed as his tail wagged faster, "And my best roommate,"
"Even after I burnt the easiest dinners before I got the hang of it?" Ryder teased.

How could such a goofy laugh that bubbled from his roommate make his heart soar so high?
"Even after your burnt the easiest dinners," Tenna grinned playfully. He was about to say something when Ryder's phone rang.

"Sorry, Tens. Gotta take this," Ryder bit down a few swear words when he saw who it was, "Hello, Ryder speaking. Yeah, I know. I saw your name pop up. What? Already? We must meet you tomorrow? Okay. See you then,"

Tenna watched nervously until Ryder ended the call.
"That was my rich friend," Ryder began,"You know that broadcast studio Riddler had held you captive in? My friend bought it already. It'll be part of Gothm Gazette, but it'll be more focused on international programs. He also noticed how popular your gameshow with Riddler was, so he wants to offer you to become the Chief Creative Offer of Tenna TV. There are other roles to choose from,"

Tenna's nose bloomed as the TV man grinned from ear to ear before he looked concerned.
"Is my job just to give creative guidance?"
"It's one of your jobs. You can be a gameshow host, or any other type of television host! He wants you to choose who should be part of your crew. The Gotham Gazette will also help get it off the ground through advertisements. You're already internet famous. People are wondering where you came from and hoping you'll have a gameshow either on the internet, or on TV," Ryder exclaimed excitedly in one breath.

"Do they really love me?" Tenna asked in a small voice, "Me, an old TV?"
"They do. They enjoyed watching you. How many people can say they can co-star with Riddler without getting killed? You're not old, Tens. You're in your prime," Ryder gestured wildly.
"Where exactly is the broadcast studio located?" the TV asked.
"A couple blocks away from Gotham Gazette. It was supposed to be a sister location, but the previous owner decided to scrap it. The entire block can be used for various sets. There's even a penthouse, if you want it,"

"Ooh, that'll be wonderful!" Tenna beamed, "We can decorate it however we wish! Another home,"
"It's a private penthouse, Tens," Ryder pointed out,"A luxury apartment,"
"It doesn't mean it's only for me," Tenna pointed,"You'll be my assistant,"

"I have my show and job at Gotham Gazette," Ryder pointed out.
"See it as a second job," Tenna beamed, "Tenna's TV is part of Gotham Gazette and you're assisting me. We can suggest it to your rich friend tomorrow,"

The End.

Notes:

Both believe the other's heart is racing due to what happened, nothing more.

Chapter 18: Sing

Summary:

Jack Ryder loves singing. Too bad no one seems to like his singing voice.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Ever since he was a young boy, Jack Ryder loved to sing. Judging by how his mother would hush him whenever he did, Ryder's singing was terrible.

Whenever he was alone, Ryder would start singing. Songs from the radio, theme songs from shows, he would practice them all.

His Creeper side was never shy when it came to singing, but he would purposely do it badly to annoy people.

The one-time Creeper actually didn't try to sing badly, was when he was on the rooftop with Batman. Singing along to a song that was stuck in Ryder's head.

Ryder never knew before Creeper could feel shame. Heavy shame washed over him as Batman gave Creeper a shocked expression, a rare feat. The singing must be really bad if Batman actually emoted.

During the Gazette's Year End party, the Music Meister had taken over the Gazette in order to have a musical number. Everyone was entranced and sang. Everyone's singing voices varied from bad to wonderful.

Ryder wished Music Meister didn't rub in his lack of musical talent by making him sing several solos. The reporter hated how everyone looked shocked. Easily one of the most embarrassing days of his life.

Ever since Tenna grew legs, Ryder didn't sing in his apartment anymore. He didn't want to embarrass his roommate.

As Tenna left to run some errands, Ryder began to sing to himself while going through his notes. One song led to another, heart and mind focused on singing.

"You're singing," Tenna sounded shocked, his smile wobbly. No, Ryder didn't make a squeak in surprise. When did Tens come back.
"Um, ye-yeah," Ryder nodded, trying to hide his embarrassment.
"You're finally singing again," his roommate beamed. Wait, what?

"Come again?" did he hear right?
"Back before I got legs, I always loved hearing your singing," Tenna admitted shyly, "You have real talent. You could easily become a Broadway singer!"
"You're just saying that, Ten,"
"I know talent, and you have a lot," the showman beamed, "Mr. Wayne asked if I could sing a theme song for Tenna TV, and you'd be the perfect singing partner,"

"Wait, really?" Ryder couldn't believe his ears.
"Really, we can practice after dinner," Tenna beamed.

The End

Notes:

The Music Meister is from Batman: The Brave and The Bold.

Chapter 19: Limping

Summary:

Tenna limping for two different reasons while Ryder tends to his TV.

Notes:

Decided to rework the old chapter to this.

Chapter Text

Ryder noticed Tenna had been trying to hide his limp. His roommate didn't favour a leg, but there wasn't a spring in his step.

"Hey, Ten, you okay?" Jacky finally asked as he noticed his roommate keeping weight off one leg and then another while he stood by the kitchen counter.
"Oh, don't worry about me," Tenna waved his arms in protest, "My feet are just tired from standing too long,"
"Looks uncomfortable, though," Jacky pointed out, "You can't even stand on them. I know how to help with the pain,"

"Oh?" Tenna's antennae twitch curiously as he gave Ryder a curious look, "How?"
"You go and sit on the couch," Ryder instructed, assisting his roommate. Both sat on the couch.
"I must just sit on the couch? How will that help?" Tenna asked as Ryder placed both of Tenna's feet on his lap.
"Just relax," Jacky urged as he began to slip Tenna's shoes and socks off, "I'll do the rest,"

"What are you--oh-oh!" The TV man melted as he felt gentle, yet firm fingers massage into his sore, tired feet, "Feels good,"
"Have you been on your feet all day?" Jacky asked as he worked on a particularly stubborn knot, "I feel a lot of knots,"
"Oh, I'm used to it," Tenna gave a dismissive wave, "I just ignore it,"

"You just ignore it?" Ryder's tone was curious and concerned as he worked onto another tender spot, "Does this happen often?"
"Yes, but it's not something I can't handle," Tenna shrugged, "It's easy to ignore it,"
"Easy to ignore, huh?" Jacky asked before his tone became playful, "Like you can ignore--this!"

"Eek!" Tenna made a squeal that's a mix of static and giggles, "Doonohot! Noohot there!"
"Not where?" Ryder teased as he continued to tickle Tenna's feet all over, "I thought you can ignore this easily?"
"You cheetehehe--!" the tv man squealed as his roommate found a very sensitive spot. Ryder's grin playful.
"Cheater? I'm barely touching you!" the reporter teased as his fingers tried to find every sensitive spot, the poor TV's laughter rose and became more frantic.

After a couple minutes, Ryder gave Tenna a breather. He continued with the massage.

"You mustn't push yourself too hard like this," Jacky's tone was as firm and gentle as his touches, "You're lucky I'm great at massages. I had to learn how to do all types of massages on myself since I often pulled muscles chasing stories,"
"I can learn from you," Tenna insisted before a satisfied sigh escaped him, "It's no problem,"
"Nah, I need to practice my massage techniques more," Ryder's voice became flirty, "Full body,"
"You don't have to do that for me. I'll be fine," the CRT TV head insisted.

"You can ask me to be a footstool for your tired and sore feet and I'll gladly do it," Jacky wiggled his brows, "I'll be your footstool anytime,"
"Jacky!" Tenna protested, trying to hide a blush that spread across his screen.

The End

***

"Tens, what happened?" Ryder asked as he noticed Tenna had been trying to hide a bad limp as he head towards the kitchen. The reporter noticed how the showman winced when he took a step.
"Oh, nothing, nothing," Tenna tried to wave him off, "Just a heavy box that fell on my foot,"

Ryder glanced around before his eyes spotted the offending box. It was a large one even he struggled to carry. His eyes widened in realization.
"Stay right there," Jacky demanded before he approached Tenna, "Hold still while I take you to the couch,"

Ryder ignored Tenna's protests as he picked him up bridal style and gently placed him on the couch. He leaned down by the TV man's shoed feet, picking one up by the heel.
"Oh, no, that's no necessary," Tenna waved his arms as he shook his head, "I'm fine,"
"You're just limping for the fun of it?" Ryder raised a skeptical brow as his roommate nodded, "Doubt that,"

"It'll be fine after a few hours, Jacky," Tenna insisted as he watched his roommate loosen his shoelaces before gently trying to slip the shoe off. He grimaced, making a soft static whine.
"I'll be the judge of that," Ryder stated before he pulled the sock off. He made a low whistle, "Ouch, Tens. That bruise and swelling looks bad. Can you move your foot and toes?"

The reporter never knew robots could get injured like humans. Was this due to Tenna being magic? It looked painful.
"I can move them both," the TV man nodded, wincing a bit, "Looks worse than it feels,"
"A sprain, then?" Jacky sounded relieved, "I'll get the first-aid kit. Just rest,"
"It's not necessary," Tenna called after Ryder.

"You used the first-aid kit on me when I didn't need it," Jacky chuckled in amusement as he took bandages out, "The wounds healed within hours. Hold still. Lemme know if it's too tight,"
"Okay, Doctor Jacky," Tenna chuckled as he watched Ryder tend to his injury.

Chapter 20: Bite

Summary:

Ryder noticed Tenna's fangs.

Notes:

Them fangs are sharp. Nice.

Chapter Text

No, Ryder wasn't staring when he first saw them. No, he didn't feel hot and bothered. The food was still hot, that's all.

Tenna has fangs. Sharp, big fangs. Those fangs taking a large bite from the hotdog.

Lucky bastard.

His mind began to wander. Tenna giving a love bite on his shoulder. Fangs dangerously close to his neck as he kisses it.

Hickys and bite marks. His coworkers would believe he had been attacked by Harley's hyenas, no doubt.

He bit hard into his hotdog as he watched his roommate eat.

Lucky bastard has no idea what a tease he is.

Chapter 21: Rumours

Summary:

Rumour has it.

Notes:

Rumours about Ryder spread.

Chapter Text

The Gotham Gazette had been buzzing with the latest rumours.

"Did you hear? Mr. Wayne bought the abandoned station," Joey Day whispered as he leaned against Clark and Lois' desk.
"Isn't it the same one Riddler hijacked?" Vera asked from nearby, taking a sip from her coffee.
"One and same," Joey nodded, "And listen to this, Wayne found that TV guy and decided to make him the next rising star of Gotham. He even asked Mr. Ryder to go work full-time at the new station,"

Hushed whispers became louder until a voice rang out.
"Where did you hear this?" Vicki Vale demanded, glare dangerous.
"Arrived at work and saw Mr. Wayne himself talk to Mr. Ryder before telling him to get to the sister office," Joey shrugged as he picked at his fingernails, "Went there in a hurry, as if someone needed him urgently,"

"Can't be right," Vale bit her thumbnail hard, "I would've heard if Ryder moved to another office,"
"Can't believe Ryder cheated on his roommate either," an intern grumbled," After getting a mattress and everything?! The poor guy sounds so sweet too,"

The sound of a phone ringing ripped through the noise. Vicki Vale picked it up. After a few minutes, she hanged up.
"That was Mr. Wayne," she began, "Ryder will be helping out at the sister location for several days until everything goes smoothly,"

"YES, peace at last!" someone shouted in delight before they shrunk back at Vicki's glare.

Chapter 22: Gift

Summary:

Tenna wants to share the penthouse with Ryder. He also reveals something he figured out when Jacky bought his gifts.

Notes:

Here comes some misunderstandings.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Mr. Wayne, may I have the penthouse?" Tenna began as he fiddled with his hands, "That is, if it is available. If it's not, it's no problem at all,"
"The penthouse is available for you as the head of the company, Mr. Tenna," Mr. Wayne smiled before he looked concerned, "Are you moving out of Ryder's apartment?"

Tenna frantically waved his hands as he shook his head. His expression was comically frantic.
"No, no! It's like that at all!" the TV man's voice became high-pitched, "If it's alright for you, I would like this to be like a vacation home for Jacky and me. But, I want to keep it as a surprise,"
"Yet, you want Ryder to help with getting it ready?" Wayne asked, "You also want him to be your assistant,"

Tenna's screen became pink.
"I just want to help him out," the showman sighed sadly, "Even though he didn't need to, he bought me a lot of gifts to make our apartment look better. Well, to get more personal items for me. If it weren't for a fact they were ninety-eight to ninety-nine percent off, I would've told him to take them back,"

Mr. Wayne blinked.
"Ryder tried to hide it from me so that I won't feel bad," Tenna laughed as he rubbed the back of his TV as his antennae drooped, "So, I want to thank him for everything he did for me,"
"You also want Ryder to help you out?"
"Yes, yes," the showman beamed, "I want him to choose afterwards if he would like to work at Tenna TV as well, or not,"

"I'll ask Ryder to assist you today," Wayne gave a nod, "I believe he's almost at work. Wait here,"
"Will do, Mr. Wayne,"

The End

Notes:

Tenna actually knew the gifts Ryder bought him were on special but didn't want to embarrass the man.

Chapter 23: Hope

Summary:

Ryder heard another one of Tenna's memories.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Ryder rose from his mattress, his sleepy mind hearing a high-pitched static for a moment before it became a low hum.

He wiped sleep from his eyes before he gently tiptoed towards Tenna's bed. His roommate was fast asleep, screen filled with static and moving images that were scrambled too much.

Another memory? Curious, Ryder started to watch. His roommate didn't really tell much of his past. He spoke of a family, but the tone was always nostalgic.

There was mix of garbled static until a voice can be heard. Ryder leaned closer.
"Don't worry, dude. Someone out there wants you. Promise," a girl's voice can be heard. A familiar voice he heard before when he listened to one of Tenna's previous memories.

Ryder felt his chest tighten. Did Tenna's family disown him? Someone with such a kind, gentle soul? Ryder was forced to accept he was too unlikable to have anyone care for him, but Tenna? That's unfair. Real unfair.

"Someone's gotta want a TV," the girl's voice came up again.

Garbled static made it hard to hear what a few sentences said, until a familiar voice can be heard.

"You... you'll help me!? SUSIE!!! You... You're INCREDIBLE! You're AMAZING!! No... you're MARVELOUS!! I feel electric!! I feel like a million bucks!! This... this must be what HOPE feels like!!" Tenna's voice sounded so excited and hopeful.

How can a family of TV heads treat one of their own like disposable toilet paper? Someone trying to help Tenna find a new family, but didn't succeed.
Why else would Ryder find Tenna in the Gotham garbage dump, unless Tens had never gotten another family?

Tenna sounded the same in the memory as he does in the present. He sounded so hopeful and excited to get a new family.

It's like one of those documentries he watched about pets getting rehomed and they're so happy to be loved. They always made him teary. Ryder always made sure to compose himself as soon as he noticed people's eyes were on him.

He was almost caught when he was a co-anchor on the news (Joker blocked most of the streets leading to work, so he had to help out) and they had a touching story about a dog reunited with his owner.

Tears threatened to spill from his eyes, but he quickly quipped Vicki Vale wore too much perfume that day and it made his eyes water.

Ryder's expression softened as he heard Tenna murmur softly in his sleep before the reporter saw his own ugly mug suddenly pop up on the screen.

"Good morning, my beautiful CRT TV! What programs will you show me today?" the reporter grinned. Oh. Oh, no! This was back when Tenna was still a TV?

What else did Tenna hear back then? The reporter sure hoped his roommate wasn't creeped out by, well, his Creeper side.

The End

Notes:

Ryder being moved by pets being reunited with their owners/getting new families is my headcanon.

It's a bit of an open secret in the office he's a softie when it comes to animals.

Chapter 24: Vacation Home

Summary:

Ryder heard about the penthouse and jumped to conclusions.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

"Jacky, I need to tell you something," Tenna's voice was small as he glanced at Ryder while they ate dinner.
"You don't hafta say anything, Tens. I know," Ryder's tone was neutral.
"Y-you did?" Tenna sounded surprised before he glanced down, "I-I--"

Jack Ryder ran his fingers through his hair before he gave a small, sad sigh.
"I knew something like that would've happened sooner or later," Ryder's voice was a bit wobbly for a moment, "But, I'm for ya, Tens,"
"You did?" the TV man's voice was small.
"I did. So, do you need help moving your things?" Jacky offered.

"Um, that's been sorted already," the showman pointed out. The reporter looked around his apartment.
"Your stuff's still here, though?" Ryder gestured with a fork.
"Of cource, Jacky. This is our main home and the penthouse is our vacation home," Tenna beamed.

Ryder nearly choked.
"Wai-wait? Wait? Vacation home?" the reporter sputtered as he stared at the TV.
"Yes. Our vacation home," Tenna wore the biggest grin, "Since you're my assistant and--"

Tenna's screen became blank before he got to his feet and approached Ryder's chair. He leaned down onto one knee.
"Mr. Jack Ryder," the TV began as the animated words of partner flashed on his screen, "Will you make me the happiest TV and be my business and romantic partner for the rest of our lives?"

"Do I?!" Ryder wore the goofiest grin, "Yes! I want to be your partner,"
"Oh, happy days!" Tenna cheered as he played a clip of an audience cheering, "We're partners,"

Tenna grabbed Ryder and swirled him around. They did a little dance, grinning. After a minute, they stopped.

"So, uh--" Ryder began, "--what do we do now?"
"Maybe we can cuddle on the couch after we finished dinner?"
"Like we always did? We've been doing that for awhile already,"
"You make it sound like we've been lovey-dovey for a long time,"

They paused.

Wait...?

The End

Notes:

And that's a wrap. They confessed in their own awkward way.

Chapter 25: Stars

Summary:

Tenna and Ryder might have admitted their feelings, but their hearts are yet to embrace the other truly loves them romantically. What if they misunderstood?

Various snippets about their lives. From their feelings, their friendships, their past and more.

Chapter Text

"They're so pretty," Tenna sounded amazed as he and Ryder watched the stars.
"They sure are," Ryder agreed, "Pity we had to go all the way to Metropolis just to see this,"
"Well, at least we can have our picnic under the stars," Tenna's screen lit up, "Never knew they could be so pretty,"

Ryder grinned as he dug into the picnic basket for drinks.
"You sound as if you never saw the stars before," he playfully teased as he threw a drink for Tenna to catch. The TV man caught it easily.
"I saw it on TV before," he chuckled sadly, "The educational shows and science fiction movies look pale in comparison. Looks like you don't learn everything from TV,"

"Don't say that," Ryder shook his head in disapproval, "TV can let people travel to places from the comfort of their home. They learn about news without having to go outside to find out,"
"That's true," Tenna's smile was radiant, "It stops people from being glooby,"

Ryder's face split into a wide grin.
"And if it weren't for TV, I would never have met the hottest TV with the hottest two legs," Ryder chuckled as Tenna's screen became pink.
"Jacky, you're just saying that," the showman smiled shyly.
"And I'll say it lots of time. In fact--oW!"

Tenna turned around in surprise. He noticed Ryder's scratching his neck.
"Jacky, you okay?"
"'mFine," the reporter grumbled, "More mosquitoes biting me. Must be the work of Lex Luthor for me being too close to figuring out his latest schemes,"

Jack Ryder gritted his teeth as more mosquitoes started to bother him.
"That's it! I'm gonna bite back! See how you like it, huh?! Huh?!" Ryder's eye twitched as he tried to bite the air.

Tenna chuckled in amusement before he tried to help his Jacky chase the mosquitoes away.

Chapter 26: Dream

Summary:

Ryder and Creeper have a talk.

Notes:

Some thoughts and fears.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ryder felt odd. He had climbed into bed an hour ago, yet he felt like he was floating in a void.

"Where am I?" he asked out loud.
"You're in the deepest part of your subconscious,"

Ryder almost jumped out of his skin. He turned around to face the last person he expected: The Creeper. He resembled how he usually looked, but looked much calmer and serene.

"How? What?" Jack demanded as white ground suddenly appeared under their feet. Both landed on it.
"The brain's busy sorting through the subconscious of Jack Ryder. The Id, the Ego and Superego. That's me," Creeper pointed to himself and Ryder at the same time.

"...You're not acting like yourself," the reporter frowned.
"I'm you. All of you. Your bottled thoughts and feelings amplified. I'm the shaken bottle that erupts from pressure. I'm the you that you want to be,"
"No, I don't want to lick the Daily Planet," Ryder cringed.

"All your random thoughts, fleeing thoughts, desires...I feel them all and act on them, "Creeper began to cackle, "Actually not all your random thoughts. Let me list all the fleeing thoughts I had when I was at my calmest,"

Ryder looked worried.

"Does Superman get wedgies? Why are there so many Earth Green Lanterns? Will salt from the Dead Sea taste better than normal salt? Is Joker's hair green everywhere on his body? How hard will it be to wear heels as the Creeper? Would poison that's expired be more or less poisonous?" Creeper ticked the list off his fingers.

Ryder gave a glare. Creeper ignored him.

"Can Tenna swim without getting shocked? Will he wear that cute swimwear outfit I hope he'd wear? How flexible is he? Does he have organs inside? What happens if his screen get cracked? Will he ever introduce me to his family? He looks so kissable. I wonder if I'll get static if I kiss him on the lips, or maybe even when I give him tongue?"

Ryder slapped the top of Creeper's head.
"Don't think that! Do not! Do not!"
"He loves me, right? He loves me, even when I'm wacky," Creeper's tone became melancholic, "I didn't scare him off...yet...maybe that kiss..."

"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Ryder snapped, wrapping his hands around Creeper's throat to throttle, "SHUT UP! Don't you dare! You mess everything up!"
"No," Creeper shook his head, "No. I didn't mess it up. You did! You always do!"
"I don't mess it up!"
"But, you do!" Creeper snapped as he grabbed the front of Ryder's shirt, "You always do. Whenever it feels too good to be true, you become an even bigger ass. How can anyone like Jack Ryder? When they're nice, they're just faking. I just tell people how you really feel about them. I just act like how you feel around them,"

"I-I-" Ryder made a strangled sound, "No one likes me,"
"Tenna loves me," Creeper's voice was soft, "Tenna loves me, all of me. Doesn't matter if it's just friendship or being good roommates, he loves me,"

Ryder and Creeper both made a strangled sob.
"He said we're partners. He means business partners and buddy duo, right? It can't be romantic, right? He's just a TV man with lots of love for everyone,"

"Even for pathetic Ryder?" Creeper sighed sadly.
"Even for pathetic Ryder," Ryder nodded.

Creeper and Ryder sat down, staring beyond.

"A sweet, hot roommate that cooks the best meals," Creeper smiled, "Better not scare him off with a love confession or kiss. That'll be creepy,"
"Did you just--?"

The End

Notes:

My theory on how Creeper works/how it works in this AU.

Chapter 27: Nerves

Summary:

"I'm so nervous," Tenna admitted softly, wringing his large hands.

Chapter Text

"I'm so nervous," Tenna admitted softly, wringing his large hands, "Tomorrow's the premier of the channel and my show,"

He was in the meeting room with Jacky, Vicki Vale and Bruce Wayne for their meeting.

"You'll be fine," Jacky gently reassured Tenna as he grabbed hold of a hand and squeezed it, "You were made for this. To be the star of the whole world,"
"Just treat this like your previous shows," Vicki suggested, trying to pretend she didn't notice how Ryder took Tenna's hand so familarity, "We and the crew are here to support you,"

Tenna gave a shaky sigh before he gave a tiny smile to Ms. Vale and Mr. Wayne before he gave a brighter smile to Ryder.
"Thank you, everyone," his voice was sincere, "For giving me the opportunity to become a world-wide famous showman. I don't think I'll ever get this chance if it weren't for you,"

"You would've gotten it no matter what," Ryder gave him a thumb's up while giving the other hand of the TV a gentle squeeze.

Vicki looked thoughtful before she glanced at Bruce Wayne and Ryder.
"I would like to speak to Mr. Tenna alone for half-an-hour," she stated, ignoring Ryder's protest, "Just to go through some notes for tomorrow,"
"It's fine, Jacky," Tenna gave him a soft smile, "We're just going to chat,"

After Ryder and Bruce Wayne left, Vicki waited a few minutes before she began.
"This is strictly confidential and something I cover with anyone that joined either Gotham Gazette or its sister location," she began as she placed a notebook and a pen in front of her, "I want to confirm: Mr. Bruce Wayne and/or Mr. Jack Ryder didn't force you into any contracts or any other agreements that made you uncomfortable in any way?"

Tenna tilted his head in confusion.
"Oh, no. All the contracts are to my terms," the TV man laughed, "I want to be here. I just never been in something so big before,"
"Your relationship with them?" she began, "Can you please describe it to me?"
"Mr. Wayne and I are just professional. He gave me this wonderful job. I even get to have a holiday home for Jacky and me!"

Vicki looked thoughtful as he listened to the TV showman.
"What is the relationship between you and Ryder? You two appear to be quite close," she began gently as she tried to sound like a curious neighbour.
"Jacky and I were roommates," he beamed as a flower bloomed on his nose, "Now we're partners,"
"In what way?" Vale asked, writing down notes.
"Business," Tenna began before his face glowed, "And romantic,"

The ink from Vicki's pen had been squeezed out from force as she stared at the TV man in shock.

"....what...?"

Chapter 28: Confide

Summary:

While Vicki spoke to Tenna, Ryder and Wayne has a chat.

Chapter Text

Ryder and Mr. Wayne sat in one of the offices, waiting for Tenna and Vicki to finish.

"There's something that's been bugging me," the reporter began as he threw a crumpled piece of paper into the bin, "Why did you buy this TV studio and hire Tenna, of all people?"
"That's easy," Bruce rested his chin on his hands, "I saw a business opportunity that will allow me to see what is going on globally without me having to step a foot out of Gotham. As for Mr. Tenna, I like him. He's sunny,"

If looks could kill, Bruce Wayne would've been evaporated from the suspicious glare Ryder gave him.
"Mr. Tenna has a keen eye for what works and what doesn't for television," the multi-billionaire smirked, "He has great taste in shows too,"
"Oh, no. Oh, no!" Ryder shook his head in disapproval before he raised from his chair, "Don't tell me you talked him into airing the entire series of The Grey Ghost?!"

Mr. Wayne chuckled darkly.
"He said I have wonderful taste in the classics," he glanced at the reporter, "Even suggested we have a couple channels just for the classics,"

Ryder shook his head in disappointment.
"That's why you like Ten-na? He likes The Grey Ghost?" he raised a brow.
"Actually, I like him due to his personality," the dark knight admitted, "He could've easily fit in Metropolis or Fawcett, but he made Gotham his home. Tenna didn't let living in Gotham dampen his passions or mood,"

"Yeah," Ryder nodded in agreement.
"He's a great and talented showman. People loved him when Riddler aired him. They're excited when they heard of Mr. Tenna's TV Time. Many people wrote or phoned in to ask to meet him. Found the majority of his bodyguards this way. I lost count how many asked if they could have a contract with him in exchange for a dinner date," Mr. Wayne pointed out.

Ryder's expression became emotional before it became red.
"You better not have forced Ten to date them!" his voice became dangerously low as his expression became pure fury, "He deserves to be treated like the king he is, not a hankey that gets thrown away!"

Bruce Wayne had the audacity to smirk.
"Don't worry, he turned each and every single one of them down," the multi-billionaire had a knowing tone in his voice, "Told them he's already taken,"
"Oh, that's good," Ryder nodded in relief before he suddenly leaped from his chair and charged towards the Dark Knight to grab him by the front of his dress shirt, "Wh-what do you mean Ten's already taken!?"

"Tenna told everyone he's already taken," Bruce nodded sagely, "That his heart only belongs to that person,"
"..." Ryder let go of Mr. Wayne's collar to grab hold of his head to try and keep Creeper down, "...who...who could it be? Do I know them? How come I don't know this?"

"Ryder," The Dark Knight began, "It's quite obvious who Tenna's heart belongs to. Please take a moment to think about it,"

The reporter took a moment to think before he gave the philanthropist a deadly glare.
"Y-You?" Ryder snarled as he pointed at him, "You bribed Tens! You bought this TV studio and gave him the job to win him over,"

"What?" Bruce Wayne was stunned silent as Ryder continued to rant.
"Y-you better be a great partner for him. He's a big softie. Don't string him along like you do with Catwoman and other women," Ryder's eyes shone from anger and unshed tears before he left the office in a hurry, "Better treasure him,"

"Ryder, wait!" Bruce called out to the fleeing man, "There's a misunderstanding,"

"Shut it! I'm not an idiot," Ryder called out, battling extremely hard to keep Creeper in. He rushed to the bathroom to calm himself.

The reporter stared at his reflection in the bathroom mirror, Creeper extremely close to burst out. After a few minutes, he calmed himself and washed his face.

"Ryder, you fool," he cackled to himself.

The End

Chapter 29: Awkward Realization.

Summary:

Awkwardness as Tenna showed Ryder the newly decorated terrace and penthouse. Ryder came to a realization.

Chapter Text

"You've been quiet today," Tenna observed as he and Ryder were in the lift on the way to the penthouse, "...You okay, Jacky?"

"Oh. Oh. Yeah, yeah. Just tired," Ryder nodded as stretched his back to make himself a bit taller, "Snooping around the Ice Lounge to get some news about Pengiun's latest scandal is no easy feat,"

"You didn't slip and fall on the ice, right? You didn't get hurt, Jacky?" Tenna sounded quite concerned as he cupped Ryder's chin to inspect for any injuries and gently used his other hand to inspect his scalp, "No injuries, but your face's quite warm. Are you fine?"

"...I--Totally fine, Tens," Ryder lost his voice for a moment as he subconsciously leaned into Tenna's touch, "I heal quickly,"

"Yes, but I still care for you," Tenna's tone was soft and tender, "We are--"

The lift loudly pinged before it opened, which startled the two men.

"Um," Tenna cleared his throat before he dramatically gestured at the opened lift, "The holiday home. This part of the private outdoor terrace. At the end is the penthouse,"

Ryder was surprised as he and Tenna set foot on the terrace. The design was totally different from the last time he was here. There was a steel roof covering to protect the furniture. It was big, yet cozy and homely. Outdoor suite, table, flowers and potplants. There was a pool.

The colours and taste of furniture were a mix of Ryder and Tenna's tastes. Ryder swallowed a lump that formed in his throat. No, don't get hopeful.

"Let me show you how I changed the holiday home," Tenna's voice became chirpy as he wagged his tail, "If you'd like, we can sleep here tonight,"

"Would Mr. Wayne be fine with that?" Jacky tilted his head curiously while Tenna lead the way. The reporter took note how nicely those legs moved with such grace and stride. Those pants hugged Tenna from the hips to the ankles like a kid hugging a teddy bear. The oxford shoes compliment his legs and ankles well.

"Why won't he?" The TV showman asked as he turned to the reporter, a big question mark bouncing above his head, "Mr. Wayne told me he's groovy with me having people staying here in the holiday home,"

"Oh?" Ryder blinked. Never saw the man wanting to be in an open relationship, or poly, "He does?"
"Yes, he does," Tenna's face glowed as he stopped in front of the penthouse's door and toed his shoes off, "Oh, please leave your shoes outside. The carpets are a pain to clean when dirty,"

Ryder slipped out of his shoes before he took note of the size Tenna's shoes compared to his own before he glanced at Tenna heading towards the living room. Jack Ryder never considered himself small, but he was dwarfed compared to the TV man.

"Jacky?" Tenna called.
"Coming!" Ryder replied as he followed after his roommate.

Wow. The penthouse actually looked cozy and inviting. Really comfortable and let you relax. The furniture a mix of his own tastes and Tenna's.

"So, what do ya think?" the TV showman asked as he sat down on the couch, long legs resting nicely on the floor.
"It looks great, Ten. Maybe I should take all my clothes off to not get anything dirty," Jacky gave a playful grin as he sat next to his flustered, blushing roommate, "What does Mr. Wayne think about it?"

"He tried to suggest I make it look more luxurious with more expensive furniture, but I don't like how those looked. They also felt uncomfortable," Tenna admitted, "I want it to be homely for us,"
"So, you and Wayne--?"

The TV man tilted his head in confusion, antennae wiggling above Ryder's head.
"We're just friends, of course. He's not my type," Tenna protested as his entire screen became a hot pink, "He reminds me too much of a family friend that's quite strict,"
"Even if he's handsome?" Ryder couldn't help pouting for a moment.
"Still not my type," the TV showman shook his head frantically, "I like the ones rough around the edges, hide their kind heart with brashness and not afraid to go big. They don't really care about their looks either but they're quite handsome,"

"Huh," Ryder blinked, "Who could that be?"
"You, my Jacky," Tenna giggled warmly as he gently bumped his head against Ryder's, "Of course. We've been dating for about a month already,"

Ryder felt his brain screech to a halt, Creeper shouting, "I scored the hot TV man!" echoed in his mind.

Wait. Wait.

What...?

They've been dating?

Ryder's memory popped up when Tenna asked for them to start dating.

So, he didn't misunderstand?!

Oh.

Oh.

Oh!

...

Well, now his feelings are all over the place as Tenna cuddled closer.

The End

Chapter 30: Type

Summary:

Ever since he fell in love with Tenna, Ryder loves everything about him.

Notes:

Bit of sappiness. Ryder also thinks about the kinks he kept private.

Warning: bit of footsie and tickling almost at the end. Mainly Ryder being playfully mean to Tenna and making a deal.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ryder never thought he would fall in love with someone and love every part of them as much as he did Tenna.

Yeah, sure. Tenna has a wonderful body. But, that's just part of it. Tenna's personality is so charming. So authentic. He's also quite witty and bright.

They can playfully banter. The TV getting flustered with flirting made Ryder's heart flutter. That shy smile and blush made Tenna even more handsome.

The voice, perfect for a showman. So sweet and kind too. He can read the telephone directory and Ryder would swoon.

Ryder never wanted to admit it, but he's touch-starved. But, he hates being vulnerable in front of anyone. He refused to admit being cuddled and lovingly touched would make him melt into a puddle. That's embarrassing.

He always told those he dated before he doesn't do fluff and doesn't like being touched much. They'd do pillow talk and half-hearted cuddles afterwards, but Ryder always discouraged them exploring his body with their hands. They sometimes complained, but he didn't care.

Ryder was almost exposed back when he dated Vera. They were doing pillow talk when she leaned over to cup his cheek.
"There's some pizza sauce here," she explained before wiping it off with her thumb.

Before Ryder could register, he leaned into Vera's touch. Vera looked surprised for a moment before she continued to stroke his cheek. Her expression softened as Ryder leaned deeper into her touch.

He didn't know if it was seconds or several minutes, but his brain clicked the moment he realized Vera was combing her fingers through his hair too.
"Hey, you're messin' with the 'do," Ryder complained, tone not as harsh as he wanted it to be. Vera stopped touching him, though.

Even after they broke up, Ryder still had that fear Vera would use that moment of weakness against him during one of the many moments they would argue in the office. So far, so good. He still has the nagging feeling Vera told Vicki, though...

It's extremely embarrassing, but Ryder has kinks he never shared with anyone before. They are extremely vanilla compared to the biting and the bondage he had with his exes. Jack Ryder, sleazy reporter, is worried about being teased and mocked. Or, think he's creepy.

One: he has a voice and laugh kink. A beautiful voice whispering in his ear gives him shivers. A beautiful laugh. Oh. That's hot. Making them laugh makes him feel all sorts of things. Gets him into a mood...

Last thing he needed would be for someone to think he's like a Joker and use Joker gas. Ryder's already toeing the line with The Creeper as it is. He silently hoped Creeper never said anything to hint he's into that.

Two: Maybe due to being tied with the first kink, but he always had a dream to tickle those he found attractive. To hear them laugh freely. Playful tickles as his hands explore one's body to find tickle spots that make them react.

It's so childish and silly. What's worse, what if it'll make them think he's weird like the Joker?

Shit. He hopes Tenna doesn't find it weird when he does that. Hearing that TV man laugh made him feel things inside he can't explain. His hands exploring Tenna's perfectly sculptured body.

Strangely, Jacky is a lot more touchy-feely and allows to be touched when it comes to Tenna. Tenna can give him hugs any day.

Oddly, he likes doing the mundane things with his roommate and boyfriend. Helping with buying groceries, making pitches for future shows. Cuddles.

Hell, Ryder didn't even mind when he felt Tenna shyly tried to play footsie with him under the table. The reporter usually found it annoying when others did it to him, but found it oddly endearing when the TV showman did it.

Ryder felt Tenna's socked foot stroke against his leg playfully, which made him feel excited. He grabbed Tenna's socked foot, placed it in his lap and began to gently wiggle his fingers all over the trapped foot.

"Jack-hehe--" Tenna began to giggle.
"Keep your voice down, Tens," Jacky teased playfully as his fingers attacked the TV man's toes with tickles, "We're in a restaurant,"

Tenna covered his mouth with his hand, screen becoming pink.
"I want your other foot too," Ryder playfully purred as he quickly bends down to grab Tenna's other ankle and pulled it up until he placed the shoed foot onto his lap, "It's getting no attention,"

Tenna didn't move his feet at all while Ryder unfastened the shoelaces and pulled the shoe off, enjoying the attention. The TV man made a static squeak, giggles muffled as he felt fingers attacking his feet.

"How about a deal, Tens?" Ryder's tone was teasing and playful, "If you're able to keep your voice down the entire time here, I'll clean the entire apartment for an entire week. I'll even do the dishes, washing the clothes and the ironing,"

"But, I--hhehe--eek!--dodonhot--mind doininhg thehehem!" Tenna tried to stifle a squeal as Jacky attacked a sensitive spot.
"I'll even cook and bake your favourites for a week," Ryder offered as he pulled the socks off; revealing white silicone feet, "I'll even buy your favourite sweets,"

"Deheheheeel," the TV man giggled softly as he felt Ryder massaging and tickling his feet, "Youhhuhu enjooying dohoiing thihehis?"
"What can I say, my boyfriend is hot," he teased, "Love every inch of you,"

"That sounds so sappyhehehe--Jackeheh!" Tenna shoved a fist in his mouth as Ryder found a really sensitive spot and attacked with all ten fingers, "That's meanahen!"

"You asked for it," Ryder teased as he mixed his touches between tickles and massages.
"What did I doohoo?" Tenna squeaked in surprise.
"Being too hot from head to toe," Ryder teased as he attacked the toes for emphasis, "And for having a beautiful laugh,"

Tenna made a static squeak as his entire screen glowed pink, extremely flustered.
"You mehehen it?" his voice was small.
"Yeah, I do, Tens," Ryder's tone was soft, "I do,"

In the end, Tenna barely won the bet. Ryder became a bit meaner when he realized he was about to lose, but it was futile.

Ryder did his part of the deal. Tenna offered to help his roommate, but Ryder insisted he'll do his part.

It was a lot of work, but it's worth hearing Tenna laugh like that.

Maybe Ryder can make more deals like that to Tenna in the future?

The End

Notes:

This is a bit sappy and silly. Ryder feeling more comfortable indulging his feelings and fantasie with Tenna, his boyfriend.

They began to dance, synchronized.

"Don't touch that dial!" they wagged their finger to the audience, "For It's Mr. Tenna's TV Time!"

They did a little twirl before they posed.

"Mr. Tenna TV Time!"

"Cut! That was brilliant!" someone shouted.

"Ooh! These look delicious!" one of the interns called out before taking one.
"Ten's food is always great," Ryder piped up as he took one.
"Oh?" Vera looked curious.

"We're roommates and dating," Tenna admitted as a heart appeared above his head. Ryder nearly choked on his cupcake.
"What?" someone sounded shocked.
"Yes, they are," Vicki Vale nodded.
"But, what happened to your roommate? The one that phoned looking for you?"

"One and the same," Ryder wrapped an arm around Tenna's shoulders.

"Huh. Explains a lot,"

"Explains what?" Tenna asked.

"Oh. Nothing,"

Chapter 33: Itch of Poison Ivy

Summary:

Tenna had been captured by Poison Ivy.

Notes:

Warning for Poison Ivy's unwanted touching and forced kissing (to try and use her powers on Tenna)

Chapter Text

"What are you?" Poison Ivy purred as she gently tilted the captured Tenna's head up with a hand, "I can sense a heartbeat, yet your circulatory system isn't filled with blood. No pheromone or other hormones, yet I can feel how you heat up when you were flirted with,"

"I'm a Darkner," Tenna tried to get away from Poison Ivy's touch while he tried to get out of the vines that tangled him up, "I'm made out of magic,"
"Your body doesn't sense like any Homo Magi I encountered before," she frowned, "Nor do you sense like a metahuman,"

"Like I said, I'm magic," Tenna tried to sound polite, but frustration was evident, "Please don't touch me like that,"

Poison Ivy's fingers were exploring his neck before it stopped in the middle.
"You have a pulse," she mused, "I wonder if..."

Tenna made a muffled static sound as Poison Ivy pressed her lips against the lower part of his screen where his mouth was, trying to give him a passionate kiss.

She pulled away quickly, rubbing her lips as static tickled them.
"My research couldn't find anything about you being terrible to the environment. Your records are squeaky-clean. I can't even use you as a minion," Pamela sounded frustrated, "Vines, let him go,"

As soon as Poison Ivy made her getaway, the vines threw Tenna roughly and the tall TV man fell hard.

Tenna rubbed the shoulder he landed hard on, wincing. The TV man had been thrown hard on the one side of his body, it is throbbing from pain.

He sighed, wincing as he began to limp back home.

Thankfully, Jacky was searching for him everywhere in Gotham when the reporter noticed him limping in the middle of nowhere.

No amount of trying to reassure Jacky that he's fine worked. He was furious. How dare Poison Ivy hurt him.

Ryder was a mother hen, tending to his wounds and making sure he's comfortable.

When Tenna fell asleep, Creeper decided to pay Poison Ivy an important visit.

Chapter 34: Date

Summary:

What is a date?

Chapter Text

"What do you consider a date?" Ryder asked Tenna as he looked up from his report notes.

"Well, anytime I spend time for you, Jacky," Tenna smiled as he went through the notes for his next show, "Every moment is a lovely moment when I can be with you,"

"Damn, Ten. You are smooth," Ryder covered his face with the papers as he felt his entire face turn blood-red.

Chapter 35: Buried

Summary:

Ryder had been buried alive. He soon reminded himself he and Creeper are one and the same.

Notes:

Ryder gets a panic attack. Creeper too. Ryder reminds himself he is Creeper.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ryder squeezed his eyes shut as he felt hot tears run down his cheeks.

Heart was thumping loud in his ears. Whimpers and sobs escaped his throat.

Jack Ryder was buried alive in a coffin in the middle of a forest nearby where he discovered a shady deal. He didn't know how they got the drop on him.

Heart raced faster. Creeper screaming to come out. Begging not to die.

"Please, help," Ryder whimpered to Creeper. He doesn't want to die like this, "I'm scared,"

Creeper came out. But, what happened next shocked Ryder. Jack's mind was quite lucid.

Creeper was whimpering in fear. Ryder could feel the blood pressure rise from stress. He can feel the panic.
"No, please help. Help me," the yellow man hyperventilated before he kicked part of the coffin that's above him with force.

All it did was make the coffin collapse, literally just an inch left for Creeper to move.
"No no NO! NO! NO!" Creeper screamed, "Help me! Bites. Ripped apart. Pain. Scared. Scared. Dark,"

Creeper was hyperventilating. Ryder realized he too was hyperventilating. Creeper was scared. Ryder was scared.

Then, it hit him with a force of Superman punching him in the gut.

These feelings aren't just Creeper's. These thoughts aren't just Creeper's. Those memories aren't just Creeper's.

He is Creeper. Creeper is Ryder.

So obvious. But, he tended to try and forget the uglier side-effects of being Creeper by separating the two of them.

He's scared. Jacky closed his eyes as he heard heavy footsteps from above.
"Jacky?" a familiar voice, "I'm coming for you. Batman and I are here. Give us a signal,"

"I'M HERE!" Creeper shouted, voice cracked.
"Coming, Jacky!" Tenna called.

Moments later, he heard digging before the coffin was lifted out gently. The lid of the coffin taken off.

Maybe he was hallucinating, but Tenna was suddenly 15 feet tall and had four arms. The TV giant gently scooped Creeper up and cradled him in his hands.

"You okay?" Tenna cooed as he gently stroked Creeper's head.
"I'm okay," Creeper gave a thumb's up before he closed his eyes. He felt exhausted.

Tenna lowered Creeper down for Batman to check for injuries. Ryder transformed back before he opened his eyes again.

"You're safe now," Batman gave a small nod as Ryder subconsciously cuddled deeper into Tenna's palm.

Safe. He's safe.

Chapter 36: Comfort

Summary:

Ryder needed comfort after what happened.

Chapter Text

Ryder couldn't sleep. He was so exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally, yet he couldn't. His side of the bedroom was too dark.

The reporter looked around the room, taking note of Tenna's screen having a faint glow. Soft static can be heard coming from the TV man.

Jacky got out of bed, gently tiptoed until he stood by the foot of Tenna's bed.

Wait, this is embarrassing. How can he explain this to Ten.

Before he could go back to bed, Tenna's screen became white and his nose appeared.
"Hm? Jacky?" he murmured sleepily as he turned to face his roommate, "Whatshit?"
"Can I sleep by you? Feeling cold," Ryder's mouth bullshitted before his brain could register what he said.

"Hm. Sure," Tenna sleepily nodded, not really focused before he shifted a bit to give Ryder space, "Come,"

Jack Ryder felt calmness washed over him as he snuggled close to Tenna. The TV man pulled him closer to his chest, large hand resting on top of his head. The showman murmured a good night before his screen dimmed a bit.

Safe. He finally felt so safe. Protected from the dangers out there.

Ryder wrapped his arms around Tenna's waist as he cuddled closer, sleep quickly washed over him.

Chapter 37: Rain

Summary:

Rain means different things for Ryder and Tenna.

Chapter Text

The rain suddenly caught Ryder and Tenna on their way home from work.

Ryder held the umbrella over Tenna's head, taking note how the TV man hugged himself tightly with his arms and tail.

Despite it being a summer shower, Tenna was shivering.

"Ja-jacky," the showman whimpered, "You're gonna get sick. Share the umbrella with me,"
"It's fine," the reporter gave a smug, playful grin, "The rain makes me feel calm,"
"Oh," a soft reply.

"It doesn't mean ya hafta like it, though!" Ryder wiped his hair out of his face, "Lots of reporters hate getting soaked and how their clothes feel heavier afterwards,"

"...Rain just brings back bad memories," Tenna admitted, "Makes me feel alone,"
"Well, uh," Ryder looked around before he shrugged, "You're not alone in the rain anymore if ya got me,"

Tenna's screen became static before a wobbly smile appeared.

"Thank you, Jacky," the voice was tiny and vulnerable.
"Anytime, Tens," the voice was gentle.

"Yes, I am," Tenna nodded. He was just in his boxers.

"Okay, let's start," Ryder cooed before he sat by the foot of the bed, "Remember the safe word,"

Ryder was in his boxers, tied up.

"Alright, ready whenever you are," Tenna wagged his tail before he sat by the foot of the bed, "Safe word!"

No, Creeper isn't a demon.

Notes:

Creeper isn't a demon at all here.

Chapter Text

"For the last time, I'm not a demon!" Creeper screamed in frustration at the supervillain, "I'm one-hundred percent Yellow-Skinned Wacky Man. Not a demon, not an oni, not some malicious spirit!"

A low, nerve-wrecking chuckle bubbled from his chest.

"Actually I prefer the Creeper," he cackled before he leaped onto the supervillain's back, "I creep people out, not demon them out. Ew!"

Chapter 40: Full size

Summary:

Ryder found out how tall Tenna is.

Chapter Text

"This is your actual height and size?" Ryder was in awe as he craned his neck, "Wow, you're a tall glass of water,"
"Not a tall glass of water, a CRT TV," Tenna huffed playfully as he picked Jacky up and placed him on his shoulder, "Wow, it's been a long time since I was this height,"

Jacky gave a low whistle before he rubbed the side of Tenna's box.
"For our next fun in the bedroom, maybe you should be this size? I have several ideas we can do,"

Tenna made a loud static squeal before his entire screen became a glowing pink.
"So forward!" before he shyfully muttered, "But, we can try. Maybe the penthouse would be better for my size,"

"Yes! Score! I got a hot, tall boyfriend," Ryder chuckled warmly as Tenna tried to hide his screen.

"Well, Ten, um..." the reporter began as he dug his hand for something in a pocket before quickly grabbing Tenna's hand.

"Jacky?" Tenna's smile became bashful as Ryder slipped the Phosphor bronze ring onto Tenna's finger.

"Tenna, I'd like to wake up every morning with you by my side," he gave a grin, "Making jokes and talking about our day. Would you?"
"Oh, Jacky! I would love to!" Tenna beamed as a flower bloomed from his nose, "I accept!"

Tenna used his magic to make a ring for Jacky and placed it on his finger. It's copper as well. Ryder looked at it in awe.

"So, how about we go out to celebrate?" Ryder grinned, "That new pizza place you like has a special for couples,"
"Oh, how glorious!" Tenna's screen glowed from happiness, "Let's go!"

The two held hands as they left for the pizza place, not caring if anyone noticed the mushy display.

Chapter 42: AU: Lady of Screens

Summary:

Based on my Lady of Screens AU where Tenna is actually Ann Tenna. She's basically the same as regular Tenna, just her voice sounds like a woman gameshow host.

All events that happened in TV Time From Gotham happened here.

Chapter Text

Ryder was the luckiest man alive. His new roommate is hot and just as sweet as he is hot. They would also have playful banter. It was always fun. They're great friends.

It was a bit jarring at first when he first heard Tenna spoke, but he got used to his TV's voice. Like how you would think someone would have sounded like when you judged their looks, but their voice is completely different.

They went through many adventures together. Discovered things about each other. Be as intimate as one can get with a hot TV roommate. He knew a lot about Tenna.

But, Ryder soon discovered there's some things he didn't know about. Things that were obvious in hindsight.

"Just sign your name here," Mr. Wayne pointed at the papers as Tenna read through them. Ryder sat next to his roommate, ready to sign as a witness. After Tenna signed, Ryder read through the papers before he signed as well.

Jacky blinked as he noticed Tenna's full name.
"Lord of Screens, Ms. Ann Tenna?" the reporter's expression was a mixture of emotions.
"..." Tenna's screen was blank, a sad smile on the screen, "Jacky..."
"Are you...?"
"Yes, I'm actually a lady TV,"
"All those times I've been--Tens, if I've known--"

"It's fine, Jacky," Tenna waved a dismissive hand, "I didn't want you to treat me differently if you have known,"
"Tens," Ryder glanced at Mr. Wayne to make sure he's not judging him or his roommate. Vampire goth's expression is an unreadable as always, "You're still my roommate, friend and TV,"

Tenna fiddled with the antennae before glancing back at Ryder.
"It's complicated, Jacky," the TV gave a static sigh, "Back where I came from, I'm the only TV. People assume I'm a man with a high-pitched voice. They never mocked me for it. I never corrected them since I didn't want to disappoint them,"

"How would you being a lady TV disappoint them?" Ryder pointed out as he leaned back, "You're still my TV roommate with a hot ass,"
"Jacky," Tenna sounded very flustered, playfully swatted him with her tail.

The End

Chapter 43: AU: Baby TV

Summary:

Tenna revealed to Jacky a miracle.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

"Jacky, come quick!" Tenna called frantically from the bedroom.
"Tens?!" Ryder felt his heart jump in fright at the tone before he literally leaped a few feet into the air, landing on his feet clumsily. He scrambled quickly into the bedroom.

"What is it--?" Ryder frantically called out as he approached Tenna. He noticed his roommate held something in the palms of his large hands.
"She's hatching," a wobbly smile and tears filled the screen,"I thought I lost her,"

"Who?" the reporter blinked in confusion as the TV man held his hands up for him to see a large blue egg with a crack, "Wh-what? Tens, is that--?"
"My darling," Tenna cooed as he gently rubbed the egg against the screen.

Loud chirps came from the egg as larger cracks appeared, a tiny familiar nose popping out before it pulled back inside. Moments later, it headbutted and the egg cracked completely open.
"..." Jack Ryder's brain tried to figure out what just happened, "A baby TV? Tens, you were--?!"

Tenna made cooing static sounds as he cuddled the baby TV. She giggled. The TV's head was black. Antennae looked like large bunny antennae.
"Our baby's alright," the TV man cooed, "Our little Telly,"
"Our baby?!" Ryder's face was blood-red.
"Darkners lay eggs. They can be fertilised normally or magically. I believe when I transformed into my Darkner form, my magic and your DNA got mixed somehow,"

Jacky leaned closer before he gently cupped his hand over the baby's head.
"We're parents?" he gasped in awe,"Dad and TV dad?!"
"We're parents," Tenna cooed, "They're easier than human babies, but I'll show you how to look after her,"

Jacky and Tenna were busy getting used to being parents.

The Gotham Gazette watched curiously as Ryder came into work lately with a spring in his step and almost bearable.

The End

Telly's my OC.

Chapter 44: AU: Swap 1

Summary:

Ryder and Tenna woke up with a surprise.

Notes:

Set before the Gazette heard about Ryder having a roommate.

Chapter Text

Tenna and Ryder screamed in shock as they stared at each other.

"AH!!" Tenna screamed, "Tens, you're in my body?!"
"Jacky?!" Ryder screamed, "Oh, my! Oh, no!"
"ARGH! If I get my hands on that stupid sorcerer!" Tenna growled before he patted himself, "Wow. I feel. Wow,"

"Jacky, that's my body!" Tenna protested, getting flustered, "Wait, I'm in your body?! Must I go to your work?!"
"Unfortunately, yeah," Ryder was fiddling with his new antennae, "Just don't talk to people, do research and you'll be fine. Don't smile much either,"

"Alright, I can do that!" Tenna nodded, the expression on Ryder's face softer as he smiled.
"Keep your expression more serious," Ryder pointed out, "Vicki said I must be more polite to my coworkers and not to agonize people. If they ask, just say you're just being more polite,"
"Got it!" Tenna beamed, "I'll pick out the outfit, then go to your work. You stay at home and have fun!"

Ryder didn't think much when Tenna left wearing a blue suit, white dress shirt, black loafers and a black tie. It looked quite neat. Tenna even made sure that Ryder's hair was neatly combed.

"Here's your notes and lunch. Follow them and you shouldn't stand out much. If someone tries to pick a fight with you, just say you're too busy with deadlines,"
"Oh, it'll be fine," Tenna beamed, which made Ryder look much more youthful, "Just have fun and we'll get back into our bodies before we know it. Bye-bye, Jacky!"

Ryder sat roughly on the couch after Tenna left, holding his head in frustration.

Chapter 45: AU: Swap 2

Summary:

Ryder is strangely quiet at the office.

Notes:

Tenna's trying very hard to follow Jacky's rules. Too bad it looks suspicious to everyone.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Tension filled the air at the open office bullpen as they noticed a familiar figure entered. Vicki Vale was busy in meetings.

Strangely, he wasn't strutting as if he owned the place. Expression stoic and professional as the outfit he wore. He gave a slight head nod at anyone he made eye contact with before approaching his desk. No quip, jabs or silent glares.

Ryder sat down on his desk, placed his briefcase on it and opened it. He pulled out several folders and placed it on the desk. As if trying not to disturb anyone, he closed his briefcase and placed it down next to his chair.

Jack Ryder, oddly quiet, switched his PC on and stared at the screen. He quickly looked down at some notes before he tapped his password in with a single finger.

The office was deafeningly quiet, as if waiting for a punchline of a joke.
"You're awfully chatty today," Someone much further from Ryder's desk spoke up. A few people nearby sharply hushed them back.
"Apologies, but I need to work on these deadlines," the reporter gestured at the various files on his desk, "If you could please pardon me,"

"Oh, so your time's more important than ours?" another person piped up while more people made harsher hush sounds, "When we had deadlines, you would be extra noisy,"
"I was told to be more polite and not agonize my co-workers," Ryder's tone was gentle yet firm, "I also have deadlines that need to be done. Pardon me, but I must work on these,"

Ryder continued working on his deadlines, reading through notes and typing. It looked a bit clumsier than normal, but not too odd.

After a few hours, a soft rumbling sound could be heard. Ryder covered his face with one of the files he was working on.
"Pardon me, everyone," he began, "I'll be in the kitchen if anyone would need my assistance,"

The reporter ignored slight jabs about why anyone would need his assistance. He began to make coffee for himself when a couple of people entered the kitchen. They were loudly making jabs at him, giving him a glance now-and-then.

"Any moment now, he'll be back to his normal self," one whispered, "This is all part of some act,"
"Just keeping to myself," the reporter began, "Just me and my coffee,"

Both muttered something before they stopped. Ryder was giving them the darkest glare as he loomed for several minutes.

The two blinked before a new voice came from the kitchen door.
"Ryder, in my office. Now!" Vicki Vale snapped, pointing at Ryder.
"But, I-"
"No excuses! Now!"

Ryder followed Vicki Vale, staring down at the floor.

Inside, Tenna felt awful. What did he do wrong?

The End

Notes:

Poor Tenna can't win. People are a bit meaner since they're so used to Ryder causing chaos that a quiet one feels like danger. Best to attack than to be caught off guard.

Chapter 46: AU: Swap 3

Summary:

Tenna sat in Vicki Vale's office, feeling overwhelmed.

Chapter Text

"Ms. Vale, please," Ryder's voice sounded almost sincere as he looked at Vicki's face from across the table, "I was minding my own business when those two entered the kitchen and made scathing comments,"

Vicki rubbed her temples as she sighed in frustration.
"Ryder, I know you very well," she began, "And knowing you, you provoked them, and they decided to make a scathing remark in turn,"
"But Ms. Vale, I didn't do anything," Ryder's acting was good. He was pleading.

"Ryder," Vale gestured for Ryder to stop talking, "I had a long meeting about how you insulted Dr. Clayton Wetley's views on violence. I had to fight to make sure you kept this job. I had to beg the board. I had to remind them how valuable you are,"

The reporter looked down, fiddling with his hands.
"You are to stay at home for one week. No answering any calls from the office or making calls to the office," Vicki frowned as he noticed how quiet Ryder was, "To make certain Wetley cooled off first before you can be in the office. You are to head straight home after you packed up,"

"Alright, Ms. Vale," Ryder nodded as he got up from his seat as he waited for Vale to escort him to his desk, "No calls either way,"

Without a fuss, Ryder packed everything into his suitcase and switched the PC off. He tried to wave, but everyone ignored him.

When he's out of earshot, Vicki rubbed her temples.
"He even dared to say he was on his best behaviour today," she sighed, "Made me so furious,"
"Actually," Lois spoke up, "He was on his best behaviour today. Didn't talk to anyone and even when a handful of people tried to provoke him, Ryder told them he had deadlines to do and that he was told to not agonize his co-workers,"

Vicki blinked.
"Did I hear right?" she looked around to confirm. Several nodded.
"He told us he went to get coffee if anyone needed his assistance. Ignored the jabs. He was actually minding his business when two co-workers went to provoke them. They found his quietness suspicious," Clark added.

"Ryder will act more of a pain in the ass when he gets back," Vicki sighed, "He actually tried after so many years, and this happened,"

The office was eerily quiet.

"I want those two to head to the meeting room. Now," Vicki Vale demanded.

**

"...and then Ms. Vale told me I'm not allowed to phone the office or answer any calls from them. I'm sorry, Jacky,"
"It's not your fault, Tens," Ryder gave Tenna a gentle pat on the back, "Just shows you that you did everything right, yet they're still on your ass about it. Let's treat this like a vacation,"
"Umph," Tenna mumbled, "I'm sorry for not saying anything. I was so angry how rude they were,"
"It's fine, Tens. You have proven to me my theory about the office,"

Ryder's phone started to ring. Ryder took it out and glanced.
"Speak of the devil," he tried to roll his invisible eyes before switching it off completely, "Bet Vale wanted to bite my head off some more. Come Tens, show me how to use your powers,"
"Alright,"

Within a couple days, they returned to their bodies. They continued to chat and bond.

Ryder's biggest fears that the office hated him so much that trying to change won't matter appears to be correct.

When he returned to office, he made sure to be the biggest asshole of himself.

How dare they make his precious Tenna so upset?!
