Shadow Milk yelped in surprise as he was suddenly tackled from behind. He shoved his attacker off before spinning around, ready to fight.
Only to find a very dazed looking Pure Vanilla staring back at him, eyes half lidded. The healer raised his hands toward Shadow Milk, mumbling something. He opened and closed his fingers, performing the classic “pick me up” gesture. Which was… rather amusing.
“What's the matter with you?” Shadow Milk snickered, allowing himself to be pulled into a tight hug. He ruffled the other cookie's blond hair, earning a dopey giggle in reply. “Are you high?”
There was more senseless mumbling before Pure Vanilla managed to spit out a— barely— coherent sentence. “...I wanted to sleeeep. But they kept coming back…” He began rocking side to side, still giggling to himself. “Don’ think I did it r’ght.”
“You think?” The jester slid his arms underneath the disorientated king's armpits, pulling him up so his face was pressed against Shadow Milk's shoulder. “How much did you take?”
“Uhhhhhh…” Pure Vanilla's head tilted back, mouth wide open as he seemingly searched his addled brain for the answer. “Not too many… only…” He began counting on his fingers, before frowning and shaking his head. “Maybe too many…”
Lovely. “You're going to bed and you're sleeping this off. I'm not going to follow you around the castle while you're drugged out of your mind.”
The only response he got to that statement was Pure Vanilla returning to his earlier position of his face being smushed against Shadow Milk's shoulder. It was clear the healer would not be able to walk in this state, so Shadow Milk decided to portal them up to their room.
As soon as they were safely in the confines of the room, he dropped Pure Vanilla down onto the bed, trying to fully assess his state. From what he could gather, his ridiculous boyfriend must have taken sleep medicine. Most likely to try and combat the nightmares he wouldn't actually admit to having. He couldn't help but wince at the thought. He was fully aware of his own presence in many of those dreams. Not an actual presence, of course. Just the version of him conjured up by Pure Vanilla's own mind. But he felt guilty nonetheless.
When he returned his focus to the other cookie, he found him lying on his back on the bed, hands up in the air, staring at them with a look of awe on his face. Despite the slight spiral he had just gotten out of, Shadow Milk snorted at the sight, causing the blond to look over to him.
“Blue—! What’re you doin'?” Pure Vanilla rolled over onto his side, arms splayed out underneath his torso. “I miss youuu…” He made the “grabby hands” gesture again, clearly implying he wanted Shadow Milk to join him in the bed.
“I'm not gonna join you until you get into bed clothes,” Shadow Milk replied, floating around the bed, just out of his lover's reach.
Pure Vanilla fully slumped into the bed, eyelids fluttering. His cheek was squished against the mattress. “I'll sleep in these…” He gave a vague gesture to himself.
“No. You won't. I think your laundry staff would wring your neck if you wrinkled up another set of robes by falling asleep in them.”
“My staff doesn't do my laundryyy…” Pure Vanilla giggled, rolling over onto his back, hazy eyes turned in Shadow Milk's direction.
Shadow Milk was about to snap that he “knew what he meant”, but he quickly came to the conclusion that, at the moment, Pure Vanilla most likely didn't know. Rolling his eyes, he pulled the healer upright, hands firmly planted underneath the blond's armpits. There were more giggles at this. Admittedly, it was a bit endearing. He easily slipped the cloak over Pure Vanilla's head, causing even more giggles from the blond before he slumped forward into Shadow Milk's arms.
“D’you ever think the flowers want to eat us too…?”
“The thought had never crossed my mind.” He had already removed his boyfriend's robe as well, leaving him in his under shirt and shorts.
Pure Vanilla began humming, rocking himself back and forth. His eyes were half open, but it was clear he wasn't even attempting to focus on anything with his limited sight. “I wanna kiss you, but…” He held his hands out, seemingly framing Shadow Milk's face from his perspective. “Don' think my par’ner would like it…”
Face a bit warm, Shadow Milk tugged a sleep shirt over Pure Vanilla's head, struggling a bit to get the other cookie to actually put his arms in the sleeves. “I am your partner.”
Mouth dropping open, Pure Vanilla grabbed Shadow Milk's face, gazing intensely into his eyes. “No way… you're so beautiful…” The healer attempted to kiss him, but ended up missing and nearly falling onto the floor.
Pulling the dazed cookie back up onto the bed, Shadow Milk easily pushed him back against the pillows. He pressed a kiss to the mark on Pure Vanilla's forehead, earning a sleepy giggle. Then he slid into bed beside the other cookie, pulling up the blanket to cover them both. He would have liked to get back to his book, but something told him that if he left Pure Vanilla alone, the healer would end up wandering around the castle until he finally passed out. Which was very much not ideal.
“You're my beart…” Pure Vanilla announced suddenly, turning on his side so he could face Shadow Milk.
“I'm your what?”
Pure Vanilla squinted his eyes, seemingly deep in thought. “My beart… my beast heart.”
“That is the stupidest thing you've ever said.” However, the words also had his face and the tips of his ears heating up.
With a dramatic yawn, Pure Vanilla flopped over Shadow Milk's chest. “I think ‘m gay for you.”
“That's brand new information to me. Should I act shocked?”
“Maybe? I don't know…” Blinking slowly, Pure Vanilla brought one of his hands over to rest directly on top of Shadow Milk's face. “Wanna know something I do know?”
Guiding the hand off of his face, Shadow Milk snickered. “Sure thing. Hit me with it.”
“I wanna marry you…”
Oh. Heat rushed to Shadow Milk's face. He coughed. “Let's, uh, talk about that in the morning, Vanilla Bean.”
Pure Vanilla's eyelids were fluttering. He yawned, snuggling closer to Shadow Milk. “I love you sooooo much. Like…” he squinted. “More than… than sheep.”
Despite himself, Shadow Milk cackled, placing a hand on Pure Vanilla's chest. “That is quite possibly the best compliment I've ever been given, silly Nilly.”
“Yay…” Pure Vanilla yawned again, voice trailing off as his head dipped down a bit to fully rest against Shadow Milk's shoulder. “Deserve it…”
There was no reason for him to get so flustered by these simple, certainly drug induced words. But that wasn't stopping the flush spreading across his face as his boyfriend shifted in his arms, mumbling sleepy nonsense. It was clear that the healer was trying to get as close to the jester as possible. Grinning, Shadow Milk tightly wrapped his arms around the other cookie, holding him close.
Both of them slept the best they had in a long time.
