Work Text:

The stars shined like little polka dots, and the moon brought light to what would be a dark night.

Kageyama and Hinata walked down the lonely street, their footsteps being the only sound they could hear, aside from the occasional dog barking or chattering inside a house. This neighborhood wasn’t new to them, but it certainly was still an unknown place to the pair.

Kageyama glanced at his side to see Hinata. The boy had his bike in his hands, slowly maneuvering it while he walked. His face, with the moonlight, seems softer than it is. His big hazel eyes -which he often compares to like ones of a deer- kept looking in front of them, in hopes of getting where they were going .

The raven-haired boy usually didn’t get much time to admire Hinata’s face like he’s doing now. It’s a difficult want having the shorter boy in front of him to admire his face and features when you’re in a gym with your teammates in it. Even in practice, it’s hard for Kageyama to look at Hinata the way he wants to, when he also needs to keep practicing, and in no way in hell Kageyama is going to slack on volleyball, even if it is to stare and admire his crush, but now they were alone so he could do that.

The place they arrived at wasn’t nothing special. It was a children’s park, somewhat little for anyone over the age of 11, but still nice to look at. Hinata hurried to park his bike on a fence nearby, while Kageyama sat on the swing next to it.

Kageyama’s butt cheeks squeezed a little because of the size of the swing, but as time passed the hurt wasn’t as bad.

“I’ve been waiting for a long time, Tobio” Hinata turned around and looked at Kageyama, hands behind his back, and a face Kageyama only could describe as Finally.

“I’ve also been waiting for this, Shoyo”

“Awwwn Tobio-kun, my name sounds so sweet when you say it” Hinata extended his hand to Tobio, and he responded by taking his hand and yanking the boy to where he was. Now their chests were touching, and their faces were close to each other.

“And my name sounds amazing in your lips” Kageyama’s mouth finally close the gap between his and Hinata’s. The taste of soda pop still lingered in the shorter boy’s lips, and the overall complexion of the taller boy made it quick for him to assert dominance over Hinata.

In his lap, the bright-haired boy’s thighs rested, shifting slightly with each movement. Hands found their way to Kageyama’s neck, pushing themselves further into the kiss. Both of their lips and tongues were in a constant battle whose reward was each other. Spit was exchanged as their tongues were angrily messing with the other’s.

“Nnnghh, Shoyo~” Hinata’s lap grinded on Kageyama’s, riling up the boy slowly and driving muffled moans out of him.

Teeth nibbled on Hinata’s lips, now plump by the kissing and stimulation. The ginger yelped quietly on the other’s graze but managed to keep kissing Kageyama. He knew his provocations were working.

“Mmhm Tobio-kuun~ You taste… amazing” The grip that the pair were having was almost magnetic. Both wanted to stay like that forever, in their boyfriend’s arms, showering love like it was their last day alive.

Hinata pushed his hands towards Kageyama’s chest, breaking apart the kiss. Heavy sighs and pants were wrapped in each other’s heads.

The whole world felt dizzy for a second, or at least it did for Kageyama. “Why did you stop?” he asked, his vision still a bit fuzzy, and with a pleading tone in his voice.

“My mom is waiting for me next town” The smaller boy got up from his partner’s legs, pulling and shifting his clothes so they could be more presentable and better looking. “I need to go now, she’ll worry a lot.”

“At least… call me when you’re home” Kageyama glanced down at the ground, his hand gripping the swing chains.

“What are you, my dad?” Hinata jokingly responded, but Kageyama only pouted to that comment.

He only saw Hinata getting closer and felt a kiss on his forehead. “Obviously I’ll do, To-baka.”

“If you don’t, I won’t toss you for a whole week.”

“Meanie!”

Some things may have never changed, even now that they were boyfriends, like this very moment.

Hinata was walking down the road that side to Karasuno, with his bike in his hands. Near the entrance, now with his bike parked, he locks his gaze with Kageyama’s, who has just arrived. Suddenly, it was like a burning blaze enveloped them both, as without any word muttered, they started to sprint towards the club room.

Not even 20 seconds later they were at the door of the club room, heavy breathing and spattered on the floor.

“This time I win.”

“NUH UH, I win this time, Kageyama!”

They were up again, shouting about who won now. Hinata was shoving himself up to look at Kageyama, meanwhile he lowered his head in a teasing manner to rile up Hinata.

Common everyday occurrence.

The door opened, without them noticing. “Hinata, Kageyama, stop shouting or Daichi will hear ya” there stood Sugawara, holding the door open and standing in the middle of it.

Visibly it looked like he was mid-change, with his shirt off, his pants loosely thrown in the middle of the room, and with only one sock on. “Y’all always bicker like an old couple, but don’t do it loudly, would you guys?”

“S-sorry Sugawara-san!” They both said in unison, blushes creeping up their faces from embarrassment.

“Also please enter quick guys, I want Daichi to see that I’m also an authority figure” he whispered, moving out of the way and letting them enter. “At least to him.”

Hinata and Kageyama entered and started to change. As time passed, more of their teammates entered the club room, and it started to get a little bit louder each passing second.

Next to Kageyama stood Kinoshita, changing to the white t-shirt and black shorts that everyone wore.

“Hey Kageyama, I saw you near Yoshiokaminami yesterday, what gives?”

The cold chilled his body some, even with his winter clothes on.

Well, it was only a long sleeve and pants, didn’t cover you up a lot from the cold but hey, it was better than nothing.

One of Kinoshita’s strange quirks of his nightly routine was sitting outside his balcony and admiring the view. It was a small balcony, where his chair barely fit, but he did it anyways. The habit was long ingrained since he was a child, so he barely thought of it, the streetlights and low noise lulled him to sleep.

.

.

Wait, is that Kageyama?

Kinoshita fixed his posture and focused on the person walking by his house.

Black hair, medium-ish length. Must’ve been a coincidence, he thought. The streetlight proved him wrong.

The boy had a white T-shirt, black shorts, blue eyes that looked like if you stared at them too long it would burn your soul, and that big white sports shoulder bag. It must be him.

That perplexed Kinoshita a little, why was he here? He didn’t know exactly where he lived, but he remembered at surface level that his house definitely wasn’t in this direction.

He was going to ask him during tomorrow’s practice.

Listening to that question, Kageyama was shocked. His eyes opened wide, his shoulders stiff and his mouth was barely agape.

Shit, the jig was up

“Uhh-uuhh” He tried to muster some kind of excuse to try to justify why he was there.

I was walking with Hinata- no, I was with Hinata and… his sister! Yeah, his sister. No no, his sister is always home next town, he won’t believe it. But he doesn’t know that , but I know it, so it isn’t good.

Hinata and I were… getting ice cream! But we got pork buns finishing practice yesterday with the team…

“Hinata-”

“Hinata was with you, too?” Kinoshita innocently asked, not looking at Kageyama’s devastated state. “I didn’t see him with you”

“Why do you want to know, Hisashi-kun” Tanaka asked, exaggerating that last word.

“Oh come on, Ryuunosuke-san” Kinoshita jokingly replied “If you were in the same place as me you would’ve want to know too”

“In that tiny balcony of yours? Nuh-uh, never!”

Tanaka and Kinoshita started to banter with each other, Nishinoya and Sugawara also joining in, making fun of Kinoshita’s balcony quirks.

Kageyama sighed a breath of relief that the focus wasn’t on him with that topic, and that his relationship with Hinata was still something only between them.

Tsukishima glanced at Kageyama curiously.

If there was a way to describe the atmosphere right now, it would be tense.

Their second match against Inarizaki was not going well for Karasuno. Now that Atsumu was in the lead as team captain, Suna being more annoying than last time, one of the new rookies they had that was an absolute beast, and Osamu, the match was tougher than they could imagine.

Still, they put up a fight.

Kageyama and Hinata’s improved quick attack, Tanaka’s overbearing confidence by being the team’s ace, Kinoshita and Yamaguchi’s precise serves, Tsukishima and Narita’s blocks, the new first years and the leadership of Ennoshita’s captaincy has given them strong tools to fight their opponents.

But even the strongest of fortresses can crumble if they’re chipped away enough.

Somewhere deep down Hinata’s consciousness led fear. Led doubt. Was all they’ve done not enough to beat Atsumu’s Inarizaki?

Hinata didn’t even want to admit to himself that he was doubting, questioning that his and his teammates’ efforts were not enough.

Somewhere, someone, worked harder than them, and that killed Hinata inside. But he still didn’t want to admit or even think that.

Now the match was 20 – 24. Not a good sign.

Right now, the serve was with them, in position of Hinata. As much as he wanted to pride that he improved in every aspect, he knew that now one of his weaknesses was serving.

With the current matchup, Osamu leads on the front row, which by now his spikes were known for throwing off the blockers, messing up their strategy.

Hinata wanted to do something about it, he wanted to try and do something different to try and change the match to their favor, but the doubts started creeping up again.

What if I mess up my serve and makes us lose?

What if the ball doesn’t even cross the net?

What if my serve was the perfect pass for Atsumu to set?

What if-

Suddenly, his right hand felt a tingle. His fingers clutched in surprise, but his mind reminded him quickly of who was by his side.

Kageyama.

Kageyama had reached out his hand in an attempt to calm Hinata down.

Ever since their relationship started, Kageyama had developed a sixth sense for knowing when Hinata was spiraling down or heading wherever not good, and this time was no different.

Kageyama’s methods of calming Hinata down were varied to say the least, but this time it was one of the simpler ones.

His hand extended to try to intertwine with Hinata’s. He noticed that the smaller’s hands yelped at the touch, but he kept insisting.

His long, thick fingers made their way into the palm of Hinata’s hand, gently opening the fist that was made.

Hinata melted at the soft touch of Kageyama’s hand. He knew he kept them in great shape for it being a crucial part of being a setter, but it also meant he enjoyed touching his hand.

Hinata’s fist opened, and his fingers relaxed, ready for the meddling.

The bigger palm evened up with the other, and his fingers closed, essentially trapping Hinata’s hand in his.

Suddenly, it felt like a wave came through and washed out whatever negative feeling he had left.

This simple gesture communicated a lot of things for them.

You don’t need to do anything flashy for us to win, do your part, and we’ll take care of the rest.

All the time we practiced together our new quick attack wasn’t in vain, it was a really powerful tool not only for this match, but for all that we’ve played before.

And

You are not alone, as long as I’m here, I will be by your side forever and always, even if we can’t show it publicly yet.

Hinata felt at ease. It’s times like this he wants to show off and brag about what a beautiful and loving boyfriend he has, but he knows neither of them are ready for that step, so he contains his happiness inside.

Ukai sees Hinata gleaming with happiness and confidence, and that Kageyama seems proud and bold.

Thank you, Kageyama, for calming Hinata. Thank you Hinata for having Kageyama by your side. You are both made for each other.
