when mira got off the train and through the turnstiles, baylee was already sitting there on one of the station benches, legs daintily crossed.
"mira!" she exclaimed, leaping off the bench and up into mira's face. "i got you something!"
mira frowned. "a—a present?"
"well, it's not much, but..." baylee rummaged around in her bag for a moment, then produced something flat and rectangular. "here!"
mira took it and inspected it. "you—did you know i liked dark chocolate?"
"yeah, you mentioned it once!"
mira inwardly cursed her now-fluttering heart. "and you...remembered?"
baylee grinned. "of course i did! don't you know the way to a girl's heart is through her stomach?"
now, mira was sure she was visibly blushing. "i don't remember inviting you into my heart," she grumbled.
"then just take the chocolate, mir. jeez." baylee elbowed her gently. "are you really gonna complain about me giving you chocolate?"
"no, but—what's the occasion, anyways? why did you buy me something?"
mira might've been going crazy, but she thought she spied a blush of baylee's own lightly coloring her cheeks. "i was in whole foods in a silly goofy mood."
"you shop at whole foods?"
"no!" baylee sounded genuinely offended. "i told you, i was in a silly goofy mood!"
"whatever that means." mira rolled her eyes.
"it means a silly goofy mood, mir. what's not clicking?"
mira sighed. "thank you for the chocolate, baylee. now are you going to let me walk home by myself?"
"pfft!" baylee laughed. "now why would i ever do that?"
