Summary
“Don’t mess this up”, his father quibbled, his lips set in a thin line. The Alpha’s scent sharpened just enough for Xie Lian to notice.
He did not respond, only nodded. He knew better than to mess anything up now.
“Do you remember your vows?”
Xie Lian nodded again, suddenly becoming aware of the weight of the thin piece of folded paper sitting snugly in his pockets. At the back of his mind, he vaguely remembered reading through the vows. Whether any of it had truly sunk in, he couldn’t say. Still, he remembered the words, and that would have to do.
“Good”, his father said, with a hint of self-satisfaction.
“Good,” Xie Lian repeated to himself. The word felt like lead in his mouth.
