Kate decides she likes Pegasus better than Johnny…

Chapter Text

Kate’s POV:

There they all stood, the Prime Minister, The Foreign Secretary, Xiang Ping, Xiang Ping’s translator, Agent Tucker and Pegasus. She stood over Johnny’s motionless body and watched as her agents fiddled around him with all sorts of objects.

I sighed heavily, my body shaking.

It’s over, I thought, Johnny managed to save Xiang Ping.

My eyes darted back to Pegasus and locked on her soft, delicate face. Her green-blue eyes sparkled in the red and blue flashing lights in the glass behind her and her dark brown hair seemed to sweep across her shoulders as she moved her head.

I hope he stays alive, I thought, my eyes glancing over at Johnny who still lay on the floor, he’s done everything he could today, I hope he stays alive.

As I thought this though, as I watched the man I had tried to kiss three days ago lying unconscious on the floor potentially forever, I felt no stab of pain in my chest. Not even an ounce. Wouldn’t people ask why?

I should join them, I thought, I should help revive Johnny.

After this thought erupted in my mind, I ran towards Johnny’s body, my shoes slapping across the floor, my heart racing.

I know what to do, I thought.

I skipped to a stop at Johnny’s body and my eyes darted down at his face…

“Oh, Johnny,” I said, “I’m sorry.”

As soon as I had said this, I circled around his body and leaned forward. My eyes darted back to Johnny, then darted to Pegasus. I closed my eyes and…

I pressed my lips against Pegasus’ glossy, light pink ones.

My face began to heat up and my heart practically exploded like a firework of billions of different colours.

My hands grabbed her soft, delicate face as I continued to kiss her and she emitted muffled sounds of confusion while I did.

A unanimous gasp echoed across the room and I pulled away from her, a small smile on my face. My eyes locked with hers, and I gazed into them, my heart still racing. Her expression, though, was wide eyed and open mouthed.

“W-what?!” She eventually said.

I tore my eyes away from her and looked around the room to see the Prime Minister, The Foreign Secretary, Xiang Ping, Xiang Ping’s translator and Agent Tucker all staring at me with wide eyed expressions, and occasional gasps.

Then I looked down at Johnny, who was now sitting up and staring at me with the same expression.

“Kate!” He yelled. “What in the world was that?!”

“I’m so sorry, Johnny,” I breathed, “I’m sorry I lied to you.”

“I was convinced she was going to kiss you, sir,” Agent Tucker said, as Johnny began to make unintelligible noises.

I let a small smile slip as Agent Tucker stared up at me and said:

“How could you be so brave?”

“I was thinking the same thing,” Pegasus said suddenly, her eyes fixing on me as if they had some sort of power to make my legs turn to jelly on demand.

“Uh-uh,” I stuttered, my face burning and confidence melting away, “I’m sorry, Pegasus. I should have told you how I felt first. I just got so caught up in the moment! I promise it will never happen again! On the plus side, though, you tasted amazing…”

I trailed off as I watched her eyes narrow and my pulse began to echo in my ear.

Oh gosh, I thought, she looks so pretty when she stares at me like that…no, no, no, I have to stay focused. What do I say? What do I say? Everyone’s staring at me!

“Kate,” Pegasus said, “a word alone.”

“Y-yes, Pegasus,” I said, my voice shaking, as I followed her into the next room, and she slid the door behind us.

“Oh gosh!” I said, my heart rate increasing. “Please don’t fire me! I swear it was a moment of passion and impulsivity and it will NOT happen again.”

“No,” she said, briefly shaking her head, “I am not going to fire you, although I really should have done.”

“Phew,” I said, sighing against the wall, my shoulders and heart rate dropping, “why?”

Pegasus’ eyes darted to the floor before they quickly rose up again, though they failed to meet mine.

“Because,” she said, in a quieter tone than she would normally use, “because you are a very good Behavioural Psychologist, Kate.”

My heart began to glow.

“Very good”?, I thought, Pegasus only ever uses “not bad”, even if you saved the world!

“Really?” I said, my eyes lighting up.

Her eyes met mine and I almost gasped as I saw a tint of red appear on her cheeks.

“Yes,” she said softly, before walking over to the door and pushing it open.

Then she turned back to me and said more firmly.

“But don’t you ever do anything like that again! Understood?”

“Y-yes, Pegasus,” I said with a gulp, though my heart was still fluttering.
