The Confrontation

Summary:

Percy Parker finally confronts their father about the experiments he conducted on them in the past, abandoning them and leaving them to be nothing but another subject in Oscorp Labs for 11 years of their life. Work Text:

"Look, just answer me. Did you or did you not do it?"

Their voice was stern. Percy had planted their hands onto their father's desk, mask off and nose wrinkled with anger as they spoke. They tried to keep their composure, but knowing what they know now it became difficult to be any ounce of neutral towards this man.

"Yes, I did. I did it for the money... b-but it's not for the reasons you think it is!–"

Percy scoffed and cut him off.

"It was to support me, yeah I know."

They undug their claws from the varnished wooden desk, stepping away and turning their back to him for just a moment. Their tail lashed in rage as they continued on,

"I get it, you didn't want us to be living on the streets, but why on God's green Earth would money be the reason you completely ruin your own child? Why would that be the one thing that makes you give me up for fucking science?"

They turn to look at him again, gesturing to themselves while still maskless in their full suit. There was nothing but hurt in their eyes, the fires of pain burning through them and right into their father. He knew what he did. He knew the choice he made. Yet he made no effort to change it. He was not only the cause but he also just let it happen.

"I mean shit– I had to be schooled by facility workers, I had to let total strangers take care of me, all because you weren't there! You turned me into a monster and you left me! Was I really nothing but an experiment to you?! Did me being your child mean nothing?! After everything we had together?!"

Percy's voice bellowed throughout the room as they continued on their rant, their father still sitting at his desk not saying anything. He didn't know what to say. At this point what could he say, no matter how guilty he felt. Nothing could fix this. This was something irreversible and he had the blood of his own child on his hands because of it. What could he even do now…

"N–No, you don't understand!"

Percy slammed their fist on the desk.

"Oh really?! I don't understand?! Then please father, do tell me what the fuck I am missing!"

Their anger was clear now. They couldn't hold back anymore. The more he tried to save himself the more it only set them off. If Percy didn't have any self control they would've mauled him and turned him into minced meat by now.

"I left because I felt guilty! I didn't do it because I wanted to leave you alone! I couldn't bear to be a father to a child that I already knew I hurt!"

Percy snarled.

"THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU STOP IT FROM THE START?"

Silence. Complete and utter... silence. Percy's father was taken aback by their wave of burning rage, frozen in fear at what he's caused. It seemed only now that he would fully realize that this was the result of what he made. All because of his own greed, his misguided love, he has ruined the one good thing left in his life. He can't go back now. Not after two decades. Nothing else could be done. He just simply had to take it. Maybe this is how Percy felt when they were put in a position they had no way of getting out of. An animal. Caged. Fearing for its life. Finally Percy broke the silence that fogged into his office.

"I'm done. I don't want this anymore. I don't want to be a monster in the minds of the people I protect in this city. I didn't ask for this. I didn't ask to be born. But here I am. You created me. You made me into this... this beast. Is there anything you have to say for yourself, Dad?"

That last word was laced with glass shards that cut into their father's heart. He had nothing else to say anymore. He just stood silently, averting his eyes away from the enraged wolf that was once his own happy little daughter. How could he have done that to someone so innocent? So happy and carefree? How could he have ripped away that childhood of someone so little and helpless. They put his trust in him. And much like their childhood, that trust was now gone.

"I get it now. I see you for what you really are. A monster. You are no better than the beast you turned me into. I no longer want to associate with you, then. You are not my father. I will not be born to someone who thinks money is worth ruining a child's innocence."

And with their final statement, they would open the window they entered to get into his office to make their way back out. Before they decided to make their drop, they sat on the edge for just a moment more, looking back at their father still frozen in his own guilt.

"I hope you're happy with the decisions you've made."

Then they'd drop. The gentle silence sang through the window now, nothing but typical traffic and every day clutter being heard softly through the breeze blowing in the open window. That was it. Now there was nothing else that could be done. Percy was gone, and now their father was left with nothing but himself. Alone. He quietly sat back down in his chair, running his fingers through his hair as quiet sobs began to squeak through his lips. All for no one to hear, and for no one to give pity. Only left to wallow in his own guilt, melting in his sorrow for what he's done. His own actions lead to this and all that was left of him was his very own consequences.

Notes:

Thank you all for reading, this is something I honestly just quickly wrote down in discord at like. 5 in the morning I believe, partially a vent piece because of a talk I had with a couple of friends earlier that day, partially a lore tid bit because of Percy being my vessel for writing out these types of feelings

Regardless though I am posting it because I just like how it's written in itself, and I think it is a good character study that I had fun just getting out of my brain and onto paper, because hey who says writing can't be cathartic? Anyways, that's all I gotta say about this one, see you all in like a few months probably LOL
