Work Text:
A sigh leaves you as you stretch your arms overhead, your upper back cracking from sitting for so long. The mountain of paperwork on your desk looks almost exactly the same as this morning, even though it’s been six whole hours since then. There isn’t even a dent in it, really. The words have been blurring together for the past hour, and your hand cramps every five minutes.
You dart your eyes around the west office, seeking some sort of excuse to take a break. After the fifth cup of coffee, going to the break room stopped being a viable option. All of your coworkers are either working on their own paperwork or out on rounds, even the new rookie. Especially the new rookie, poor guy.
Then, the heavens open up and start singing as a face appears in the glass window of the door, blue eyes immediately meeting yours.
Jill.
A smile instinctively spreads across your face at the sight of your partner, but you quickly rub a hand over your mouth to hide it. Jill jerks her head to the side, clearly beckoning you to follow as she mouths “storage room.” You nod as subtly as possible, and Jill moves out of the way of the door.
Clearing your throat, you push back from your desk, chair screeching against the tile floor. Your desk neighbor barely even lifts his head, and you take that as your green light to leave.
You barely get one step into the storage room before you are yanked behind a shelf of boxes, familiar arms curling around your waist as your back hits the wall. A woodsy scent envelops you, practically swirling around the dingy storage room in a cartoonish plume of smoke.
“Did you get a new perfume?” Jill’s voice is breathy, the minty words wafting against your face.
A chuckle leaves you as your own hands crawl up Jill’s arms to curl behind her neck. “I did, actually. You like it?”
Jill just echoes your chuckle, though with a coarser edge. Her nose nudges yours with her lips hovering mere millimeters away. Hands inching downwards, Jill just crowds you further against the wall, a knee pressing between your thighs. Your breath hitches, heat already pooling in your stomach and spreading through your veins.
“You really need me to say that I do?” Her face ducks down away from yours, nose instead brushing your jawline. “Because I could also show you.”
You hum, corners of your lips turning up. “Oh yeah? And what would that entail?”
One of her hands trails down your back, inching toward the waistband of your uniform pants. Jill finally presses her lips to your neck, a silent promise that she will show you. A shuddering breath leaves your lips as Jill trails along your skin, leaving small bites and nips here and there. She takes care not to leave a mark, though, ever conscious of the secretive nature of your two’s affair.
“A bit of this,” Jill mumbles against your neck. “And a bit of other things. But we’ll have to be quick.”
“That might be a problem for you. Nothing you do is quick,” you say with a quiet chuckle. Jill retaliates with a sharp nip to the junction of your neck and shoulder, eliciting a yelp from you.
The door thuds open, and both of your hearts stop. Footsteps sound, boots clunking against the floor as a male voice mutters something under their breath. Through a gap in the boxes, you see a familiar face: Chris Redfield.
Jill halts her wandering hands and stiffens as she realizes who it is, her eyes darting down to meet yours in a panicked glace. Chris starts rifling through boxes, searching for something. Eyes darting back to him, Jill moves a hand up from where it had been slithering down your back, unintentionally brushing past a sensitive spot on your ribs.
A rush of air escapes your nose and a smile tugs at the corner of your lips. Jill’s eyes snap back down to you, widening as she silently asks why the hell you’re starting to laugh. Her hand moves again, and you jolt, instantly answering her silent question. Her eyes glint in the dim storage room light, the thought in her head clear as day.
You're ticklish?
Your hands grip Jill’s shoulders, and you bite down on your lower lip to suppress your smile. Even in the tension of the moment, a laugh is bubbling up in your chest, and your breaths start to come out in short bursts. Jill presses a finger to her lips, telling you to shush even as the corners of her mouth start to turn up as well. That, of course, only makes your situation worse as you have to cover your mouth with one hand.
Jill’s shoulders start to shake as her own laugh crawls up her throat, and she bites down hard on her lower lip as she continues to try to shush you. Your head feels almost light as you keep yourself quiet, taking shaky slow breaths through your nose to try and calm yourself down. Jill’s free hand lightly pinches at your waist in an attempt to threaten you into silence, but that only succeeds in making things worse as you shove at her shoulder in retaliation.
On the other side of the shelf, Chris is rifling through a box, mumbling something under his breath about Jill disappearing all the time. He’s completely unaware of the two stifling giggles and shoving each other’s shoulders just behind some boxes.
Thud.
When you shove Jill’s shoulder again to make her stop laughing, she stumbles back slightly and accidentally hits a box off the shelf, sending spare printer paper and ink clattering to the floor. A pair of eyes stares directly through the new gap, mouth agape slightly as they land on the two of you.
A beat of silence passes as you two stare at Chris, standing far too close together to deny anything. Your hand slowly lowers from your mouth, the laugh that had been violently building now dissipated.
“So, you didn’t find the box of staplers, I guess,” Chris mumbles, slowly blinking as he processes the scene before him.
Jill clears her throat, slowly shaking her head. She mumbles a “no” and swallows thickly, waiting for something.
Chris slowly nods as he glances between the two of you, then he clears his throat. “Just, uh, don’t take too long in here. Barry likes to take smoke breaks up here sometimes. And don’t forget the staplers.”
“Right. Thanks, Chris,” Jill mutters, eyes following the man as he retreats from the storage room.
A long beat of silence stretches over you two, just glancing between the door and each other.
Then, Jill bursts out into laughter, with you following close behind. The mortification of being caught still dwindles between you two, but it doesn’t feel nearly as heavy as you thought it would. You’d expected dread and humiliation at being caught, terrified that it would cost either or both of you your jobs. But there’s a small bit of relief with the secret out to at least one person.
“At least it was Chris.” Jill shrugs as she finally stops laughing, though a few chuckles make it through every now and then. Her hand lifts to brush a stray strand of hair out of your face, the gentle touch making butterflies flutter in your stomach. “He won’t say anything. Just give me shit about it.”
You sigh, a smile still tugging at the corners of your lips. “At least it wasn’t Richard; he’d have told the whole damn station already in just five minutes.”
Jill laughs at that, her head bowing down as she nods. “You’re right about that.”
As Jill lifts her head again, your eyes meet in a quick beat of silence, and Jill leans in once again, clearly undeterred by the interruption.
“Dinner tonight?”
“I’d rather just skip to dessert.”
