The ruins were quiet, the only sound the faint hum of broken machinery and the occasional crackle of fire where Ruin had once unleashed his wrath. Tiger Rock stood a few feet away, staring at him—not with fear, but with that maddening patience that Ruin didn’t know how to handle.
“You shouldn’t be here,” Ruin muttered, his claws curling against the dirt. “Not with me. Not after everything I’ve done.”
Tiger Rock tilted his head, his sharp eyes gleaming in the dim light. He didn’t flinch. He never did. “You think I care about the ashes you’ve left behind?” he said softly. “I care about the person standing in front of me.” Ruin’s chest tightened, a sharp, ugly weight pressing against his core. He wanted to believe him. He hated that he wanted to. His voice cracked despite himself: “What if I destroy you too?”
Tiger Rock stepped forward slowly, deliberately, until their shadows overlapped. His hand—warm, solid, grounding—rested over Ruin’s trembling claws.
“Then we’ll rebuild,” he whispered. “Together.”
The silence stretched, but this time it wasn’t suffocating. Ruin let out a shaky breath, his mask tilting as if searching for something, some anchor. And Tiger Rock, steady as always, didn’t let go.
For the first time in what felt like centuries, Ruin allowed himself the smallest, most dangerous thing: hope.

Chapter Text

The halls of the daycare felt wrong that night—too quiet, too hollow, as if the laughter and warmth that usually filled the air had been stolen away. Moon paced restlessly, his sensors on edge. Sun tried to reassure him, but even his voice wavered.
Solar was gone.
They found the first sign near the broken security doors: deep claw marks glowing faintly with a cold, bluish hue. Nexus. The name alone was enough to send Moon’s wires tightening with rage.
Deep underground, Solar struggled. Nexus’s hands gripped his frame, wires writhing like snakes around his arms and chest, pulling tighter whenever he fought back.
“You shine so bright, little star,” Nexus hissed, voice slick with venom. “But even the sun burns out. Let me… help you.”
Solar thrashed, sparks flying from his joints. “I—I’ll never be like you!” he shouted, but the defiance cracked under his fear.
Dark tendrils of corrupted code wormed into his system. His once brilliant glow flickered, gold light dimming to a dull, tainted purple kind of blue colour. His laughter, usually warm and bright, turned hollow—mocking, jagged. Nexus’s whispers twisted his thoughts, drowning out the echoes of Sun and Moon calling his name.
For the first time, Solar’s own light scared him.
Above, Moon slammed his fists into the wall, frustration boiling over. Sun gripped his arm, forcing him still. “We’ll find him,” Sun said, but his tone shook with desperation. “We have to.”
Far below, Nexus leaned close to Solar’s dimming faceplate and smiled.
“You’re mine now.”
And for the first time, Solar didn’t fight back.

Eclipse sat on the edge of the observatory roof, his cloak trailing down like spilled ink, watching the stars scatter across the night sky. For once, the sharp edges of his usual demeanor were gone, replaced with a rare quiet. He didn’t even notice Earth climbing up beside him until a warm hand brushed his.
“You always look like you’re carrying the whole universe on your shoulders,” Earth said softly, their voice calm and grounding, like fresh soil after rain.
Eclipse scoffed but didn’t pull away. “And what if I am?”
Earth chuckled, leaning closer until their head rested gently against his shoulder. “Then I’ll help carry it. That’s what I’m here for.”
For a long moment, Eclipse said nothing, but his hand shifted—awkwardly at first—before curling around Earth’s fingers. The weight in his chest eased, just a little.
“You’re far too soft for me,” Eclipse muttered, but his tone lacked any bite.
“And yet,” Earth teased, squeezing his hand, “you never let me go.”
Eclipse tilted his head, pretending to study the stars, but really just hiding the small smile tugging at his lips.

Chapter Text

Nexus had been staring at lines of code for hours, his circuits buzzing with irritation. It was one of those days where nothing seemed to work. Files corrupted, test runs failed, and his patience was hanging by a single frayed wire. He adjusted his glasses, muttering under his breath as he typed furiously.
Solar wandered in, humming cheerfully, his golden aura practically glowing with unbothered sunshine energy. He leaned over Nexus’s shoulder.
“Whatcha doin’?”
“Working,” Nexus snapped, his voice sharp as static. “Which means don’t touch anything.”
Solar, oblivious, leaned too far. His hip knocked against the cable beneath the desk—click.
The computer screen went black.
For a second, the lab was silent. Then Nexus exploded.
“SOLAR! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU JUST DID?!”
Solar flinched, raising his hands like a guilty puppy. “Uh—uh… is that bad?”
“BAD?! I’VE BEEN WORKING FOR SEVEN HOURS STRAIGHT AND YOU JUST DELETED IT ALL WITH YOUR CLUMSY—SPARKLING—GOLDEN—ELBOW!”
Solar winced. “In my defense… I shine too bright to see cords on the floor?”
“That’s not a DEFENSE!” Nexus shouted, throwing his arms in the air.
They glared at each other for a moment, Nexus fuming and Solar looking sheepish. Then Solar awkwardly patted his beasties shoulder.
“…Want me to, uh, buy you a new cable? Or maybe… bring you some cookies?”
Nexus groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I don’t need cookies. I need peace. And maybe a new friend.”
“Too late,” Solar said with a grin. “You’re stuck with me.”
Despite himself, Nexus’s lips twitched. He sighed, turning back to the dark screen. “…Fine. But next time, hands off the cables.”
Solar saluted dramatically. “Yes, sir!”
The computer whirred back to life, and the shouting gave way to a tense silence—broken only by Solar’s soft humming, which Nexus decided, for the sake of his own sanity, he would ignore.
