Lynn sits quietly by as Ed and Bud play a game of poker. It's been months since she's heard Bud laugh the way he has in the last three hours. It's like the cloud has lifted from his head and he's able to be more himself.
The adjustment to life in Bisbee hasn't been easy for either of them. Ed visits for a couple of days every few months. Sometimes he talks about cases the department is working on and Bud's eyes light up. Sometimes he does errands around the house- things that Bud can't get to due to his injury, but Ed never makes it seem like it's a burden.
She thinks Ed might be lonely in Los Angeles. He never mentions a girl or even a choice bit of gossip as to what the other cops have been up to when they're off the clock. She thinks he needs this too.
She catches him as he's heading out, right before he gets in the car to leave. She pulls him close and whispers in his ear, “Don't be a stranger. The world gets a little brighter when you're around.”
He gives a slight nod of agreement and replies, “I'll see you soon.”
