Work Text:

"we'll always be together"

What a lie. Jeremy thinks, Michael made many promises, but couldn't keep any of them.

"we will get through this together."

"after we survive this, we'll get married."

Lies.

All lies.

When Michael said "I hope he can survive alone." He didn't know he meant it like this

Jeremy really didn't know what to feel that day, he pretended not to know that Michael was going to leave him.

Jeremy pretended to not feel hurt whenever Michael smiled at him.

Jeremy pretended.

His thoughts around that time were rational (unlike other times)

He couldn't help but feel betrayed.

He couldn't help but think Michael was going to leave him for the people at the safe zone.

He couldn't help but wonder why it only had one spot left.

He couldn't help it—it was the way he was, after all.

Jeremy kept thinking that on the way to the zone, but he pretended he was fine.

But every time Michael smiles at him, he couldn't help but smile as well.

It all happened so fast.

At first, they were arguing with the guards at the safe zone ("Why couldn't you let us both in?" Jeremy yelled. All while Michael was standing there—face full of somber.) Their hair was wet, probably due to the hours of arguing in the rain (Jeremy couldn't tell if it was hours or just minutes.)

The next, a horde of zombies were outside with them, the lights of the safe zone shining brightly in the night and attracting zombies—Jeremy looked panicked, Michael stayed calm (or atleast looked the part).

Soldiers were outside the gate, too.

All of a sudden, Michael kissed Jeremy on the lips—before pushing him to the soldiers, flashing a bittersweet smile, before saying "Stay safe, Jerm".

Before he got attacked by the zombies

Before he got shot and all that was left were corpses.

All he had left of Michael was his necklace—pushed into his hands mid-kiss.

Sitting in his tent with 3 other people he didn't know.

Jeremy couldn't help but imagine Michael with him.

Michael cuddling with him under a tent.

Michael sharing Jeremy's rations so the lack of resources for one extra person wasn't a problem. (Michael would probably insist on Jeremy eating it all, and Jeremy would probably insist that he shares it, arguing a few times before Michael would give in)

But he knows.

He's going to survive. (Even though he didn't know how.)

He's going to because he has Michael praying for him in heaven (If it even exists.)

He's going to survive.

For him
