Work Text:
Azeroth would never forget that day, when the battle for Mother ensued that would change his life forever.
You and Zadra finish up your battle with the blanks, then made your way to the door that separated them from Aja and Krel.
A struggle could be heard from the other side, causing a huge explosion to erupt.
Azeroth rushes ahead, praying to Skelos that Aja and Krel were alright. In a room full of smoke and debris, he looks down to see the bodies of hid friends.
"Oh no!" He jumps down from the platform.
"Azeroth, wait!" Zadra pleads, as she follows.
He lightly shakes, "Aja! Aja! Are you alright?"
Aja slowly opened her eyes, which made Azeroth happy. She gave him a small smile before tending to her brother, her hand was only but a few inches from Krel's shoulder before ahead figured out that something was wrong.
The tips of his hair slowly started to fade; Aja got only but a glimpse of his cracked core– the very thing that kept him alive.
Azeroth turned Krel and was completely shattered by what saw, his left lower arm held his stomach, whilst his other lower arm gradually made its way for Azeroth's hand with each small step. "Krel…no.." Panic was etched onto his face, his hands shook as cupped Krel's face.
Krel on the other wasn't scared–no–practically the opposite, he seemed calm a gentle smile spread across his face signifying that he was okay. He used his upper arm to gently grip Azeroth's wrist. "It's okay, I'm fine.."
"No you're not fine, we just have to get you back upstairs." Azeroth looked at Aja in search for an answer.
Aja looked defeated, bags under her eyes, a sense of dread ran through Azeroth's veins.
"I'm so sorry, but… I don't think Krel will make it."
Azeroth was left speechless, but Krel didn't mind, letting his arm fall from his wrist and onto his cheek causing him to flinched under his touch. "It's okay Azeroth, I'm fine." By that point his fading body was up to his neck.
"But you’re not fine." Azeroth said through tears. "The only thing I ever regretted… was not getting to spend enough time with you."
That statement only made the tears flood out even more.
It reached his face, he would soon disappear yet Krel remained serene, how? How can he stay calm despite death coming for him?
"I pray to Skelos that we meet again."
And with that–he closed his eyes, his body disintegrates, leaving behind his core, and then–crumbles into before their very eyes.
Azeroth was overwhelmed with grief, he buried his face into the dust, collapsing into Aja's arms once he felt her presence.
All Aja could do was hold him. His cries could be heard through the flames and debris threatened to destroy.
You promised yourself that Krel's death wouldn't be in vain.
