One Helluva Morning, again

Summary:

Ruka wants to sleep in Yuki's bed again. Yuki ends up confessing.

Notes:

I played through Yukkie's recollections 4 and 5, saw the screenshot of her confessing and just had to write something.

Work Text:

“Hey Yukkie, can we sleep together again tonight?”

When her former idol embraced her from behind asking this, Yuki almost had a heart attack. Still, she managed to get an answer out, refusing to look at the girl whose chin was resting on her shoulder.

“W-What are you talking about?!”

“Is that a no?”

That kicked puppy voice… It was too much for her, any kind of resistance she wished to muster crumbled before she could even voice it.

“Fine… Do whatever you want.”

And yet she was screaming inside.

‘Why did I agree?! Why didn’t I invite her?! No, it would be arrogant for a former fan. But I did last time!

Calm down Yuki Izumi. You are a calm, collected hacker and you prevented World War III, something like sleeping with a model level beauty who you admired your entire life is nothing compared to that.

It’s not nothing! I’m sorry I lied. I hope she’ll cover me with her fluids this time too. What are you on about myself?’

While Yuki was busy losing her mind, Ruka had already climbed into the hacker’s bed and was waiting for her.

Thankfully, Yuki was broken out of it by an impatient Megumi.

“Hurry up, would ya? I gotta get me some shut-eye.”

Shyly climbing into bed, she found herself face to face with Ruka, the distance between their faces almost nonexistent.

Yuki almost gasped, but managed to contain it. It was the second time it happened so she had mentally prepared herself, but no amount of preparation could slow down her racing heart.

She forced her eyes close and hoped to fall asleep quickly. But simply couldn’t.

Minutes passed and soon, the only sounds in the room were the steady breaths of her companions.

But a low voice broke the silence.

“Yukkie… Are you sleeping?”

She had both dreaded and hoped for this question. And now she had to answer.

“What is it?”

“I just wanted to thank you.”

“Thank me? For what?”

“You’re always here to support me… You always indulge me even when I ask for too much… And you stood with me through those though times... I love that about you.”

Compared to her usually energetic self, Ruka’s voice was barely a whisper. Faced with such a rare sight, Yuki’s heart skipped a beat. She didn’t know what to say, but knew she had to respond, else she’d regret it. Ruka often told her she loved this or that part of her but this time, there was something more. A kind of vulnerability in her voice that made Yuki realise she couldn’t pass it off as a joke.

She took a deep breath and, as she was about to answer, heard a low snore. Ruka had fallen asleep.

She sighed and, still stuck in Ruka’s arms, struggled to fall asleep.

« Good morning, cadets. It’s time to get up. Assemble in the hallway for roll call by 06:05. »

“Please count off for roll call”

“One.”

“Two.”

“zzz”

“Four.”

“Five.”

“Six.”

“Someone didn’t speak.”

“Yukkie, roll call is important!”

“You know what, FINE! I’LL confess to her! Ruka Kayamori, please go out with me, so we can get married in the future!!!”

As soon as she said that, Yuki woke up. Seeing the star filled looks of her comrades, she came to the mortifying realisation that she had, indeed, said that out loud.

“Huh? Sure, let’s do it, Yukkie.”

As Yuki was torn between elation and deathly embarrassment, she was saved by the ever professional Nanami.

“We’ll start over. Please count off for roll call.”

“One.”

“Two.”

“It’s one helluva morning again! I mean three.”

“Four.”

“Five.”

“Six.”

“All six out of six members present and accounted for!”

“Understood. On that note, please clean your room and reconvene at the Cafeteria by 06:30.”

In the room, the stares and whispers were becoming unbearable for Yuki. As she was about to say something, a chime went off.

« 31-A. Report immediately to the commander’s office. »

When they arrived at the place, they heard a voice through the door.

“And you only tell me that now? I’ll kill you.”

Was there going to be a joint operation between 31-A and 31-X? They entered.

In the office, there were only three people, Commander Tezuka, Nanami and the Seraph Squad’s resident Italian, Maria.

“You’re here. Good. Nanami told me about what happened this morning. Being honest with your feelings is good but don’t let it affect you in battle.

And congratulations for the wedding, cadet De Angelis accepted to officiate you. Christianity might not be common in Japan but with the state of the world, we have to make do.”

Yuki was at loss for words.

Still, amongst the congratulations she managed to find something to say.

“It’s one helluva morning again!”

After 31-A and Maria left, Nanami turned to Tezuka.

“Saki Tezuka, please go out with me, so we can get married in the future!

Never mind, I just wanted to say that.”

It is said that soon after, ring sales at the Munition Store skyrocketed.
