Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

No one could forget that fateful day when an extraterrestrial fell from the stars and revealed herself to the public. No one could ever predict who she is - or even what she is. But within the span of a heartbeat, the townspeople of Westshore, California, went from living in fear of the proposed "invader" to accepting her as a town hero and their ultimate tourist attraction. Yes, tourism was soaring through the roof after that night, but some were still hesitant with paranoia.

"This town's not safe anymore. I can't walk out that door knowing that she's probably gonna step on me by accident!"

"I don't like how tall she is. She's casting a shadow over this neighborhood. I can't stand it!"

"If she stepped on my car, I'd be stuck smuggling off-brand chips from the nearest pharmacy store, and I hate street gangs!"

Meanwhile, in Washington D.C., information about Terrina Ave-Lo's appearance spread like wildfire. But there was only one government branch in particular that knew how to handle extraterrestrial visitors: The Paranormal Investigation Department.

Sure, there were other departments like the Bureau of Secrecy, the Department of Billionaire Welfare, and the Department of Tax Write-Offs, but the Paranormal Investigation Department was the most relied on whenever the people asked the government about the "strange and unusual". And it's not just the United States, the PID reached out to other parts of the globe: Manananggals in Manila, sea monsters in Brazil, mermaids in the Gulf of Mexico. So much happens all over the world that it's hard to have only one government agent for the job. Multiple people work their days in secrecy, but they prefer to keep everything they've witnessed strictly confidential.

"Agent Glory Warren, PID, at your service." A raven-haired woman picks up the phone - one that looks like a 1950s phone, but wireless.

"Y-you, you have no idea what I saw. She was huge! A giant! She had this big blue hair and a-"

"A giant, you say?" Glory tilted her head just slightly, struck with a sense of familiarity with the described being.

"Yes, and it was-, y-you gotta believe me, okay! She was right in the middle of the road."

Glory thought to herself for a second and then began to smile while nodding her head. She looked down at her notebook, containing all of the many encounters she saw in the past month.

"Right. I’ll make a note of it. Now, tell me everything."
