Work Text:
Hilbert, Cheren and Bianca were catching up at the Cafe Warehouse. They've been seeing less and less of each other as time had gone on, and they'd be taking on more and more responsibilities. But conversation was starting to dry up again.
"So…is there anyone you guys like?" Bianca said, in an attempt to break the ice. The two boys were startled, as none of the trio had much experience with romance. Cheren is particular was a nervous wreck. Hilbert could tell Cheren wasn't ready to say it was the girl sitting right in front of him, so he decided to bite the bullet
"Uh, well," Hilbert spoke up, "There's this girl from I met in Nimbassa…."
"You have a crush on Hilda!" Cheren and Bianca both said in surprise.
"Is it that obvious?"
"Tell me about your love story" Bianca explained.
Hilbert became to explain on his feeling about Hilda to his best friends.
To this day Hilbert remembered vividly the day he first tried the multi battle train. He awkwardly realized he needed a partner, and then she appeared. From the beginning Hilbert though she was hot, but as they battled together, he grew to love her upbeat attitude and her determination to win. They made attempt after attempt to beat the Super Multi train. After finally beating Ingo and Emmet getting those trophies, Hilda hugged him, and that was the moment he realized he was truly in love. Since then they’ve been spending more and more time together, both on the battle subway and seeing seeing the sights throughout Unova together.
"You should confess!" Bianca said enthusiastically.
"Yeah" Cheren said, "you don't want the years to go by without saying anything"
"Not that you'd know anything about that." Hilbert replied sarcastically. "but I'm not sure how. And what if she say's no!"
"Well," Cheren said, "you could just say it"
"But where's the romance in that!" Bianca said, "you gotta make it special and fancy. Take her to the top of the Ferris Wheel! Or to the Lumious Tower or…"
"Bianca, we don't have the money to go to Kalos" Cheren remarked. "Look. You just have to thake your chance."
Hilbert paused. "You're right guys. I'll do it!"
The day after the cafe visit, Hilbert and Hilda went on another Battle Subway run. Hilbert kept trying to confess, but Hilda kept rushing to the next car before he could say anything. Before they knew it, they had beaten Ingo and Emmet once again.
"Man, seeing their faces when we win never gets old!" Hilda explained.
"Uh, Hilda" Hilbert muttered
"Yeah?" She turned to look at him, looking more beautiful then ever. Hilbert got flustered
"I want to, uh," he brain short circuited. He glanced across the station, and saw the sign to Anville Town.
"I can't just blurt it out" he thought to himself "Like Bianca said, I should be romantic"
"Let's go to Anville Town!"
"Sure thing! I’ve never been there before!” Hilda said
“Really?” Hilbert replied, “You’re at the subway all the time”
“Well, I was too focused on battling.”
The two laughed. Hilbert felt less nervous, and his confidence began to grow as they took the train.
The duo enjoyed the atmosphere of Anville town, watching the trains switch tracks, and listening to the musicians play their beautiful music. Hilbert had visited here before, but being with Hilda made the sights all the more lovely and the sounds all the more melodic.
"Like Cheren said, I can't keep putting this off" Hilbert thought to himself.
“Hilda." He said “You’re a great battle partner. I’m at my happiest when I battle with you”
“Same here!” Hilda replied.
“So…” Hilbert said, his courage wavering “I want you to be my partner in…other things”
“The institute? Sure but it’s not as fun as the subway”
“No, like…as my girlfriend”
“HUH!?!?!?” Hilda remarked. She was shocked, and turned red. She’s had no experience with romance. And now the guy she had a crush on just confessed to her. Wait…he just confessed to her!
“Yes!” Hilda explained “Oh my gosh YES! I want to date you too!”
She hugged him, then pulled back awkwardly
“I guess we’re a couple now”
“Yeah.”
“I don’t feel much different”
“Neither do I”
The two laughed and held hands. They were overjoyed to be entering their brand new partnership.
