Work Text:
Duncan
They had broken up weeks ago but the pain still lingered. Every time Duncan thought he had forgotten about her, he’d be reminded that he was completely and utterly wrong.
His weekends were spent ordering takeout and forcing himself to be productive. He figured if he kept himself active the numbing feeling would go away.
It did not.
Everything reminded him of Courtney. The way his alarm woke him up at the time she’d set up for him, which included the backup alarms for whenever he hit snooze. The way his calendar sent him reminders for his next appointments. Even the way his clothes were color coded.
When he sat back to really think about it, he missed her. He missed how concerned she’d get for him, missed the way her nose scrunched up whenever they argued, missed the sounds he could only bring out her; but most of all, Duncan missed the way Courtney made him want to be better.
She had never doubted his intelligence, his drive, or his dreams. Did she have a funny way of showing it? Sure, but it wouldn’t be her if she didn’t push him.
He knew why she ended things; she needed commitment. She wasn’t shy when it came to expressing her wants; a big house, a family— in short all she had ever wanted was a future with him.
Rubbing his face he silently cursed at himself. That was all he ever wanted with her too. He needed to reassure her because this was certainly not the end of Duncan and Courtney.
Duncan got up and grabbed his keys.
His mind was set.
Courtney
The breakup was still invading her thoughts. No matter what she did, that little nagging voice in her mind kept circling back to him.
She thought by ripping the bandaid off and calling it quits it would change their world for the better. The two had only ever stepped on each other's toes for crying out loud. Yet, here she was— sitting in her living room rewatching that stupid horror movie he loved so much.
It gave her a sense of comfort, almost giving the impression that he was still there.
Courtney shook her head, she needed to stop. She and Duncan were done.
Her imagination got the best of her when she thought about being curled up on the couch with him. He’d have an arm securely around her even though she insisted she wasn’t afraid. Whenever an intense scene came on he’d always whisper in ear that he was there for her, that he’d protect her.
She grabbed the remote and immediately turned the television off.
Maybe she should get her ass up and actually pursue someone else. The thought was sour in her mouth. How could she just move on? Having to start all over with someone who probably only liked her for her accomplishments wasn’t exactly ideal.
Duncan had never cared though. He had loved her since they were teenagers, before society had gotten the best of them.
As much as she hated to admit it, Duncan always showed her how to appreciate her true self. She didn’t need to put a wall up and certainly did not need to impress anyone. If people were for her they would love her for her.
She felt her throat knot up; how could she let someone like Duncan go? He only ever wanted her to see the person he fell in love with.
A knock on her door made her sigh. Here she was sniffling and someone had decided to interrupt her sulking. She lazily got up, checked her face in the hall mirror, and unlocked her door.
Them
They stared at each other. Courtney was in shock and Duncan was worried.
“Princes.” He whispered as he noticed her red nose and eyes; he hated seeing her upset.
At the sound of that too familiar nickname Courtney broke. The tears she was desperately holding back came down her face. Duncan didn’t waste anytime in pushing himself in and cupping her face.
He wanted to take all her pain away.
His lips were on hers and a mixture of salty tears and sweet lipstick stuck to him as she kissed him back. Courtney held onto him as if her life depended on it.
The pair had always found their way back to each other but this time felt completely different. Like they both knew and accepted this was their destiny.
They had somehow ended up against the wall. Courtney’s fingers gripped onto Duncan’s T-shirt, tugging on it before he stepped back to pull it off. He in turn ripped the buttons off her blouse; she gasped but barely had time to reprimand him as his calloused hands caressed her body.
She arched into his touch as he leaned in again. He peppered her face with soft kisses as he brushed her hair out of the way to whisper in her ear. “This is it, okay?”
“Yes.”
Courtney couldn’t even contain herself as she pulled him in for more kisses. They didn’t need to speak to confirm what they both knew. Still, Duncan pulled back slightly, needing to say the words.
“Me and you.”
“Yes.” Their lips collided again. Their hands roamed and groped each other, soft moans escaping as they knew exactly what parts of one another to focus on.
Duncan’s kisses trailed down her neck, “Forever.”
“Forever.” She gulped as her finger tugged on his hair when he bit down on her shoulder.
Duncan scooped her up. Her legs wrapped around his waist as she looped her arms around his neck holding herself up as he walked them out of the hallway.
They made their way towards her bedroom and once inside Duncan kicked the door shut.
