Chapter Text
"Was it good?" Sirius asks, chewing on one of his fingernails.
Remus just smiled.
They'd been seeing each other for a while now. What? Two months? Remus wasn't actually quite sure.
At the moment, they were sitting on the steps outside of their school. Just a few hours ago, they'd gotten their test marks back for a paper on Global Marketing. Remus knew that, realistically, he should have gotten a better mark. He was supposed to be the smart one. It should have been easy for him the same way it was for Sirius.
"It is! It's really good." Remus replied, continuing to smile as he faces Sirius before he turns his head to look at the paper again.
"What about the title, though? Should I change it? Perhaps "Working conditions are inhumane"? Would that make it any better?" Sirius says, watching as Remus scans his eyes over the paper.
Remus isn't surprised that Sirius is worrying. He always seems to be, and it concerns Remus a little. Most of the time, Remus just tries to brush it off, though. This is, unfortunately, one of those times. Maybe it's just the amount of schoolwork recently.
"No. It's good the way it is." Remus says, "Stop worrying."
It's silent for a few moments, and then:
"But you did write 'gorge on cheap food' twice in a row. You know that, right?"
Sirius frowns, and then, "Oh. Shit. I didn't even notice." He looks up, beaming at Remus, "Thanks, moony."
What an odd nickname. Where the hell did he get that from? Remus wonders absentmindedly before his eyes trail onto a group of girls and boys walking by past them. The tallest, Severus Snape, noticed Remus and Sirius, and rolled his eyes at the sight. Remus almost wanted to go up and say hello, or to show some form of friendliness. But he couldn't find it in him. Remus misses the way they used to walk around everywhere, but now, that clearly wasn't happening.
Sirius seems to notice, and he stares at Remus for a moment.
"Hey," Sirius says softly.
Sirius is about to pull Remus's face into a kiss before Regulus walks up behind them, and sticks a paper in front of their faces, stopping them.
Right. That. That is...new. Regulus is a new addition to Sirius's life after also gathering the courage to walk away from their parents. Sometimes, there are still awkward moments, but as far as Remus can tell, all is going well. They're practically best friends now.
Sitting down, Regulus shows the paper to Sirius, "I got an A. You?"
Wordlessly, Sirius pulls out the paper to reveal an A+. Remus almost laughs a little at the expression on Regulus's face. His eyebrows are raised, and there is a questioning look on his face.
"Hm. Good job. I'll beat you next time, though." Regulus says, then turns to Remus.
Please don't ask what I got. Please don't ask what I-
"What about you, Remus? What'd you get on the paper?"
Well, shit. Remus doesn't really want to talk about how he got such an embarrassing score on something that, at least to him, should have been so easy. It's shameful, the 68% on Remus's paper.
"I'd rather not talk about it." Remus says quickly, attempting to put away his paper in his bag hastily.
Sirius looks at Remus oddly, and Regulus says, "Well, Sirius is your boyfriend, so you'll have to tell him eventually because, well, you tell him everything. And Sirius is my brother, so he also has to tell me, and I'll just end up knowing anyway. It's true."
"Okay, yeah. I guess you're right." Remus says and, one little white lie can't hurt, "I got a 74%."
Sirius lets out a little chuckle, but it's obviously not meant to be rude, and says, "You got a 74?"
Regulus winces a bit, "That is bad."
"Yeah, yeah." Sirius says, "But moony is great at lots of other things. I mean," He looks at Remus, "You can dress yourself. You can brush your teeth by yourself.... Think of that. Sounds like plenty enough to me."
Arching an eyebrow, Remus says, "Of course it is to you."
Sirius just smiles and leans in for a kiss, but after just a few seconds, Sirius pulls back when Regulus says, "Sirius, we're leaving."
"Now?" Sirius asks.
Slightly disappointed, and feeling a little left out, Remus asks, "Where are you going?"
"To Caradoc's." Sirius responds, "But I'll see ya later, yeah?"
"Yeah, okay." Remus smiles, and he watches Sirius leave.
