Work Text:
The names Wright. Phoenix Wright. Im an “Ace Attorney” (ha ha get it?) and im working on another case, per usual. But today, things would turn out a bit…different.
“So Nick, you sure that Gumshoe will have the autopsy report this time?” Maya asked while we walked over to the precinct
“Maya, he’s had the autopsy report almost every time we’ve had a case. I’m willing to bet my office he has it.”
“Well, your office costs almost as much as Gumshoe’s salary, so you ain’t gonna lose much”
“Shut up.”
As we walked to the front door of the precinct, we went inside and found Gumshoe talking to one of the detectives, before setting off towards the front door we just came through to probably go to the crime scene before spotting us and waving.
“Hey pals! I was just about to head to the scene of the crime to investigate something else!”
My interest is piqued at this quote on quote, “something else”.
“Something else eh? Is it some evidence to incriminate my client…again…?”
Gumshoe looks at us, a bit of disappointment evident in his stature.
“Sure i-“
Maya interrupts, being the impatient person she’s always been, slightly stomping her foot on the ground.
“Will you two guys stop sidetracking and yapping so much?! Phoenix, you know what we’re here for so just ask already!”
“Jeez, alright…no need to be rude. Sorry Gumshoe, but per chance, might you have the autopsy report of the victim yet?”
Gumshoe tenses, which is not usual since he’s usually pretty normal about things like evidence and autopsy reports.
“Well, ah, pal…Mr.Edgeworth told me to give the autopsy report to him the moment I got my hands on it…so I’m afraid you’ll have to go to his office if you’ll wanna get your hands on it. If you’re lucky, he might just have a copy ya can take.”
Me and Maya exchange a look at the mention of Edgeworth. We knew we had to see him in court but going to his office? That wasn’t exactly on our agenda. We both silently and mentally prepared in that moment and looked at Gumshoe with a forced a smile and simultaneously said,
“Thanks Gumshoe..!”
I looked at the door with dread, and…another feeling I can’t place. Maybe I would’ve felt better if Maya came, but of course she made an excuse of, “I’ll take care of Pearls!” Etc, etc. Like even Pearls needs taking care of, she’s half more mature than Maya will ever be for being 10 years younger than her. Oh well, staring at the door will do no good. Let’s just get this over with…
Knock Knock Knock
No response.
That’s weird, I think to myself, Edgeworth is always one to answer quickly and on time. He never doesn’t respond.
I then notice the door is unlocked. I know it’s a bad idea, but I feel knocking again would be even for awkward. I decide to pray on my spiky hair nothing goes wrong and I open the door to Edgeworth’s office with a creak that seems to be almost as loud as Maya’s stomach when I don’t take her to her favorite burger place.
“Edgeworth…? You in here..?”
I take a quick scan to look around the room, seeing his chess board and fluffy couch and various other items that immediately catch my eye. After that, my gaze immediately lands on his desk, which is smack dab in the middle of the room. But it’s not about the desk. It’s about who’s on the desk. I see Edgeworth, unusually absorbed on something on his computer, not noticing my presence yet. I also see him fiddling with a Steel Samurai figurine in his hand which is usually sitting in his windowsill. As I open my mouth to ask for the autopsy report, I hear some noise coming from his computer, which I recognize as:
Grr…I’ll get you next time Steel Samurai! And you won’t be able to protect you oh so precious Neo Olde Tokyo when that day comes!
Evil Magistrate, I will protect Tokyo with whatever it takes and I will NOT allow your darkness and evil to spread!
No way…was he…watching Steel Samurai?! When I thought thing couldn’t get crazier, I look at Edgeworth again, with one side of his mouth curved upwards as he mumbles something along the lines of, “oh Steel Samurai…your bravery is remarkable…”
As I continue to just stand there Edgeworth finally look up, and recognizes my presence, and immediately closes his computer with a loud *THWACK* and changes his expression to his usual frown while desperately trying to regain his composure.
“Wright…” He grits his teeth in annoyance, and I swear I see a hint of rosiness touch his cheeks in embarrassment as he puts down his Steel Samurai figure on his next next to his computer. “You should really knock next time. Barging in like that on people is utterly rude.”
Well…nothing to lose. And I’ve been wanting to get him back for some time
“Were you just watching…Steel Samurai..?” I say, a cheeky smirk growing on my lips
Edgeworth’s blush grows a bit brighter as he looks at me, his eyes narrowing as if giving me a warning without saying a word.
“I wasn’t, Wright. You’re delusional.”
My confidence only grows at this remark, and I know I’m getting him flustered
“Hah! But I swear I saw y-“
I get cut off as he pins me on the wall, staring me down and using his height against me as intimidation. My breath hitches at my throat and I feel my face heat up
“I. Wasn’t. Watching. A. Children’s. Program. Understand, Wright?” He says as he glares me down, his breath hot on my face as he leans in a tiny bit closer. “Now, be a good little attorney and keep quiet about this or I’ll make your life hell…in court and out of court. Understand?”
I’m sure I probably look like a tomato right now, but all I care is how close he is in this moment. And what he’s just said. In court AND out of court..? I hopes he’s not implying…oh gosh… my face beats up even more at the thought of something like…that happening between us. The thought seems to horrify me and…excite me in a way, though I’d never admit it.
“Y-yes sir!”
Edgeworth backs off, a satisfied expression on his face and a ghost of a smirk in place of the embarrassment he had just before.
“Good. Now, why are you here again?”
“Oh right! Do you happen to have the autopsy report…?”
After I arrive back at the office, still slightly flustered and autopsy report in hand, as I see Maya and Pearl talking together, and when they see me they wave excitedly, Maya being the first one to talk with her usually goofy grin.
“Hey! Your back! And you got the report!” Her grin turns more mischievous suddenly “You look a bit…red. Something happen with you and your boyfriend?” She teases.
I’m taken aback as I blush even more and take a step back
“Maya, what?! I’ve already told you multiple times we are NOT dating!!”
“Yeah, yeah, I know I’m right. You’re just denying it!”
Me and Maya start arguing as Pearl watches the chaos wide eyed and amused. A normal day in the office.
THE END
