Riley's Shift

Summary:

Her obsession with Oliver came to a close. She was done with it for once.

She befriends average Abbie and starts to feel a better feeling of love.

Notes:

AU based on what happened while I was roleplaying while gaming on FPE Survival on Roblox. What if Riley stops being obsessed over Oliver and falls for someone else?

(May do updates)

Chapter 1: Epiphany

Chapter Text

Riley gripped onto the envelope in her hands. She hoped Oliver might love her finally with her sweet love letter. What she didn't expect was him with her

Alice. The Demon of Fundamental Paper School.

So, the rumors were true. She had zero chances after all. Alice would plummet her before she could utter a word.

The girl trembled, running off.

Riley sat down near the lake, crying. She crumbled up the love letter she spent her precious time writing.

Why couldn't she have Oliver? It wasn't fair at all! She followed him around and learned much about him. She wanted him to notice her.

But, at the same time, she knew messing with Alice was a death wish.

Just then, she heard a voice in her head.

Why are you crying for Oliver? He never wanted you. Don't waste your tears for a man who won't return his love. Let go.

Let go…

Riley knew it was the right thing to do. She pulled out her knife. It was her lucky knife. She kept it with her often.

With a loud cry, she tossed it into the lake. She panted. It hurt that it was her favorite item, but it doesn't make her happy anymore. Reminds her too much of Oliver. She was done with him. No more.

Chapter 2: A Changed Riley

Chapter Text

It was another normal day at Fundamental Paper School.

Well, not exactly.

The students and teachers noticed Riley was behaving differently. Many were used to her hyperactivity or constant info-dumping about Oliver. However, she was calmer now. Instead of her usual crazy antics, she was seen studying, reading, or writing poetry.

It caused quite a stir. Many were talking about her new behavior. It was odd. Some were weirded out. Some were relieved she wasn't very crazy anymore.

Ruby is Riley's best friend. She knew her friend's obsession and had warned her often to stay away from Oliver (him and his lackies). Normally, Riley would never listen to her. To actually see her friend suddenly stop, it was definitely strange. She had a feeling something happened to her.

The robot leaned close to Riley in class while Miss Circle rambled about whatever math lesson today. “Hey… are you okay, Riley?”

The small girl nodded as she looked up to Ruby. “Mmhmm. Better than ever. Why didn't I let go of Oliver earlier?”

Ruby was surprised. “You let him go? ….and your knife too?” She noticed her friend's beloved knife was missing. That knife was Riley's security blanket. She's never without that knife. “You never let go of your knife. It was special to you.”

Riley hummed softly, writing math notes. “Mmhmm… not anymore. Not worth it. I feel more free. Man, I was so crazy.”

“ABBIE!”

Miss Circle's voice suddenly pierced the air.

The poor lad trembled, looking up. “Y…yes, ma'am?”

The teacher was glaring at the boy. “You got another F. Another F! I am trying to restrain myself from punishing you and other failures. Next time, you're dead.”

Abbie nodded. “Y-Yes, ma'am!”

Riley looked at Abbie. She felt something shift in her heart.
