Summary:

A song written for a podfic of a fic written entirely in morse code.

Or the silence in between late-night talks with Ishigami Senku and Asagiri Gen.

Notes:

So about a month ago my friend Peter MEGACARAPA asked me to help him out with his podfic he was making for Fie (ryjeanne) by using a music program to make some sections sound differentiated from the 'speaking' parts. I got really excited about it and made big plans that didn't pan out before the (entirely self-imposed) deadline so I had to downsize my plans back down to almost-exactly-what-Peter-asked-me-to-do-in-the-first-place-before-I-got-carried-away.

So now it's been a month and MY BIG PLANS HAVE BEEN ACTUALIZED! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY FIE!!!

Over the course of the month I've turned this idea over in my head a bunch of times. Should it just be a chiming sound of bells? How about a music box? It would be difficult to make it rhythmic while still keeping the morse intelligible. Ideally it would sound soft and peaceful.

How would you make morse code into a melody? One day I sat outside humming to myself and I realized the discordant rhythm of half remembered songs wasn't all that unpleasant. It was quaint, even. Then, if one were to be staying up through the late hours of the night, talking about nothing and anything with the person they miss, they might also hum to themselves in the lull of conversation.

And the parts that I was asked to help with WERE the lull in conversation, the section breaks that don't look like much at first glance. I wanted to make pleasant sounding transition jingles that are not obviously coded messages and I'm so glad I actually got around to completing the song. At this point Peter's podfic has already been up for a while so we decided that the best way to present this song was by posting it as another gift to Fie. I hope you enjoyed it!
