You make me smile

Summary:

Because Ray could smile, even if it was just for simple gestures caused by Zack. He makes her happy.

Work Text:

Ray had a strange feeling when she was with Zack; the person who desired her so much alive as dead. After a while, she discovered that it was joy that she felt and right now, she felt that way, while Zack was in front of her, taking firm, long steps, going in one direction.

"Hurry up!" he objected, while kindly stopping for a few seconds and then resuming the march, seeing that she was catching up to him.

Until he reached the vending machine and tried to put the coins in the slot, which, by having several coins together between his fingers as he tried to put them all in at once, caused it to be impossible for them to fit.

"Zack?" Ray articulated, noticing that he was doing it wrong.

But he didn't hear her call, he was too busy cursing the piece of shit technology that didn't understand.

"This is shit! It's a piece of crap! What the hell?! Why the fuck won't it go in?!" said Zack as he hit the vending machine, hoping it would give him his fucking soda can.

Until after multiple dents around the machine, it delivered several soda cans, much more than it should have.

"Free soda!" Zack proclaimed with a happy smile, not caring about the state he had left the machine in, now putting the coins in his pocket and all the soda cans except two.

Meanwhile, Ray looked around to see if any passersby had noticed or heard the recent noise. Which, it seemed not to be the case, as she noticed how desolate the place was.

"Here," he said, hitting the cold metal against Ray's pale cheek, taking her out of her thoughts to look at Zack smiling at her.

She took it with astonishment, her blue eyes not separating from his heterochromatic ones, while she saw that smile drawn on his lips. He was happy.

"Umm," she articulated, her hand gripping the can tightly.

She wanted, she wanted...

"Thank you!" she thanked, smiling.

Smile.

She had made a smile. For him.

"...What's wrong with you? You're actually smiling," his voice, Zack's gaze showed surprise.

His expression didn't go away, his blue eyes shining.

"Your face right now," smiling childishly, "It's pretty cool!" He expressed proudly, "Keep it up and your smile won't stink!"

He encouraged her, still with a smile on Zack, his teeth visible, his joy sparkling in his eyes.

She kept smiling.

Several seconds later...

Zack looked away and set about opening the can to start drinking, but out of the corner of his eye he could see Ray's shiny gaze while she had that beautiful and disturbing smile painted on her lips towards him.

"Hey, stop it! Why do you keep smiling?" he asked, not understanding the extent of the duration of that rare and ephemeral action, it seemed, in his dedication.

Zack makes Ray happy.

The aforementioned tried not to give it importance and keep drinking, but after a while he couldn't keep ignoring it as he swallowed the liquid with difficulty.

"Stop it! You're giving me the creeps!" he snapped, not understanding his behavior at all, who began to move away from her.

Ray followed him from behind as always.

He was the reason she smiled.
