Narumi tripped. He choked on his next breath, staring wide eyed at his vice captain when he sprang back up, "What the hell did you just say?!"
With a roll of her eyes, Kikoru repeated herself, hands on her hips like she wasn't saying something entirely insane. "I want to have a baby," she emphasized the words, talking slowly, "Your baby, preferrably."
"What the fuck, Shinomiya?!" Narumi hissed, glancing around quickly. His face flushed with color.
No one popped out from behind his mountain of yamazon boxes. No Hibino. No Hagesawa. Not even the ghost of Isao who lingered over his shoulder, judging his every move, his every thought.
"Are you trying to kill me?" Narumi snapped at her. He clutched at his chest. "Is this a prank?"
"No, you idiot, I'm trying to ensure the next generation is even stronger than we are!" Kikoru huffed, gesturing wide, arms flailing. "God, why are you so stupid?!" she dragged her hands down her face with a groan.
He blinked. His whole office stood between them as she began to pace before the door. Narumi made every effort not to look at the bed he kept in the room, for late night gaming sessions and post-training naps, not for sex. Never for sex.
Certainly not for sex with his vice-captain, the daughter of the man who'd given him this office in the first place. The first home he could call his own.
Even if he thought about it. Sometimes. Maybe. Narumi cleared his throat and focused on Kikoru, arms crossed and eyes narrowed, "Explain."
"My parents had both been using their Numbers Weapons for years when I was born," Kikoru said, glaring back at him. She waved a hand down at her own body, "Do you really think my ability to sync with four different numbers is a fluke?"
Brow furrowing, Narumi opened his mouth to respond. He even raised a hand, ready to point out the flaws in her reasoning. Nothing came out though. He whined.
Hands flew out again, Kikoru crossing the room to shove at his chest, "Stop being dense!"
They stumbled back a few steps when he moved to avoid her assault. He ended up bumping against his desk.
"You have a natural ability to harness power from kaiju!" Her hands wrapped around his arm and Kikoru tugged on the sleeve of his shirt, actively pouting up at him, "We're the strongest, Narumi. It only makes sense for us to have a baby together!"
Narumi choked again, stumbling away as he shrieked, "Why would you even want a baby?!" He might have flailed. Possibly.
With a grunt, he tripped again, falling back onto his bed. His throat bobbed when Kikoru followed him. She crossed her arms again, chin high. A faint blush rose on her cheeks as she surveyed him though.
"According to her records, my mother's power output jumped 10%, on average, after she gave birth and her fastest recorded kill was roughly a month into her pregnancy." Kikoru listed off more and more statistics while Narumi just listened, mouth hanging open.
Only Shinomiya would consider enhanced stats as a reason to have a child. Narumi swallowed thickly, mouth snapping shut. He looked her up and down, eyes wandering over her frame in a way he'd never allowed himself to do before.
His imagination more than happy to conjure up a fantasy or two, dredging them up from the dark recesses of his subconcious.
She had a very pretty smile, he'd admit that, and his heart raced at the idea of her aiming it at him. At the idea of her smiling and laughing because of something he did. Their baby craddled in her arms as she curled against his side. A little red blob with dark hair and her bright green eyes.
"Wh-what happens, after you have the baby?" he heard himself ask, voice cracking.
"Huh?" Kikoru paused mid-sentence, lashes fluttering, "What do you mean? I just told you, I'd be-"
Narumi growled, jumping up onto his feet. He narrowed his eyes on her, "To the baby, dummy! We'd have to raise the kid together." Her eyes widened, expression owlish when he clicked his tongue, "We'd be this kid's parent."
They'd be a family. A real family. Not like the First Division, or the Defense Force; not the distant relationships he convinced himself made up for all the people missing from his life.
He'd be a dad. A father, like Isao'd been for Kikoru, not... not just a mentor, like the man had been to him.
A real, proper family. The two of them, their baby. His heart ached just thinking about it and he blinked back tears.
"I'm not making a kid just to abandon them!" Narumi barked out and Kikoru jumped. She gasped, lips parting just slightly. Chest heaving.
Immediately, his mind went wild, imagining her on his bed, in his sheets, gasping beneath him, writhing.
Narumi's nostrils flared and he took a breath, hands fisting at his sides. Memories of a single drunken kiss invaded his senses. Her soft lips moving over his, her mewling whine when he pulled away.
His name sounded so good when she said it like that. When Kikoru called him by his first name, instead of his last.
"We could raise them in my house," Kikoru whispered, ducking her head forward. She looked up at him through her lashes, "My parents made it work, going back and forth to the base. We could too."
"You... you're serious?" Narumi dragged both of his hands through his hair, scrubbing at his face. She nodded mutely.
Cheeks burning, Kikoru closed the distance between them with a single step. She rose up onto her tiptoes and pressed a kiss to his lips. A soft pressure, faint. He immediately chased it.
Arm snaking around her waist, Narumi captured her mouth with his own, sucking on her tongue. Kikoru startled, but quickly sunk into the embrace. Her own arms wrapping around his neck.
"We should have two," Kikoru panted against his lips.
He groaned, kissing down her throat. Fingers laced through his hair and she moaned.
"If... if we have more than one, they won't be alone, if anything happens to us," she arched into his body, whispering, "They won't be left alone, like we were."
"Two then," Narumi agreed, dragging her down onto the bed. He had her moaning his name in minutes, writhing under him, better than any fantasy.
With a giggle, Kikoru rolled them, perching herself in his lap. Draped over his chest, she purred in his ear, repeating her question one last time, "Will you give me a baby, captain?"
