Li's Off Day

Summary:

Sakura and her guardians scheme up a huge but small surprise for Li. Sakura wants to make sure her boyfriend feels okay since he's been acting droopy lately, nothing better then a loving gift and kisses from the people who love you!

(Kero tries to not lose his shit because Yue doesn't know how to make rice.)

This is my first fic so I wanted to do a cute little story for my favorite group of 5th graders who have a better life then me..

Chapter 1: Sakura tries to find out what's wrong with Li

Chapter Text

Li was sitting on a bench near the school. He seemed bored; as if he was waiting for someone. Sakura was his lover, partner in magic, so her first instinct was to talk to him to see what was wrong, but he had noticed her before she had a chance to react.

“I’m not lonely. I’m fine. Go away.”

He turned around, refusing to face her. He in fact wasn’t waiting for anyone, and just wanted some time alone. But since he knew how Sakura was already, he had already predicted her thoughts.

Sakura tilted her head to the side and sat by him, grabbing his hand and holding it with a feather touch. "Li, what's wrong? You've been acting weird lately. You won't join group projects, you won't respond to my calls, and you keep avoiding me and Tomoyo!" Li sighed, speaking with an exasperated tone in his voice. "It has nothing to do with you at all, Sakura." He looked at her and she could see the red lines around his eyes. "I just need some alone time alright? I'm fine." He gave her a half reassuring smile but she knew it was just to try and run her away.

Li always had issues conveying his emotions to her, heck he even took a whole year to confess his feelings to her! Nonetheless, she kissed his cheek and let him be. The aching feeling of guilt overwhelmed her. What if Li really does need her to hold and comfort him and she just walked away?! Oh, she hated this feeling..

Sakura sighed as blossom petals fell from the newly developed seeds on the trees. Tomoyo must've noticed the defeated expression on her face because she stopped walking. When Sakura became aware of her shoes being loud against the pavement she stopped also, turning to look at Tomoyo. "Why'd you stop?" Tomoyo looked at her with pity and held her hands. "Oh, Sakura! You've been acting so down in the dumps after Li told you to leave him alone. Did he tell you what is wrong. Is there anything I can do?"

Tomoyo always worried for Sakura, that's one thing she valued about their friendship.. Care..

Sakura laughed nervously and shook her head, "No, I just want to give him something that says.. 'I'm here for you!' But every time I try he rejects it on the spot." Tomoyo paused and thinks for a moment, tapping her chin in thought. She grinned and her eyes brightened with an idea. "I know! He loves your cooking right? Why not make him a lunch for tomorrow. I'm sure that will cheer him up."

Sakura thought about it and hugged Tomoyo tightly. "You're always getting the best ideas! Thank you, Tomoyo. Do you wanna come with me or no?" Tomoyo sighed, "Sadly, I can't. Meiling wants to come over to my house to practice choir. I'm gonna miss recording your every ounce of love being put into a passion project of food!" Sakura blushed and backed up. "Uh huh.. Well, have fun! Ill see you tomorrow."

And with that Sakura raced home to make the best lunch for her lover in the history of lunches. Lets hope it's not a disaster..

Chapter 2: Sakura Gets Help (And wants to stomp her brother)

Summary:

Sakura writes a few letters to Miss Mizuki to get her input. Hopefully she'll have a good recipe!

Kero and Sakurankeep fighting and Touya is being lazy but she'll take all the help she can get!

Notes:

Yue loses his shit because he doesn't know how a rice cooker works..

Chapter Text

Sakura wrestled with Kero in her room as per usual. "I told you to stop eating all my chocolate candies!" Kero frowned and slammed his drawer where he slept. "It's not my fault! The chocolate is so tempting.. The filling.. The chocolate.." Sakura pouted at him and grabbed him by his tail. "To pay for eating all my snacks that I hid from Touya you are gonna do all my homework for a week!"

Kero gasped and wiggled out of her fingertips. "A week?! Sakura you know I have things to do!" Sakura gave him a look that said, 'Things to do? Seriously? You Eat, Game, and read food magazines so you can eat again.' Kero paused and sat on her desk, moping around as he looked for a pencil. "Fine.." Sakura sat on her bed and tapped her bunny slippers on the floor while thinking.

Kero grabbed a book with his little hands and a small letter fell onto the desk. He looked back at Sakura before opening it.

Dear Miss Kinomoto,

That's quite a feat you're trying to divulge, Sakura. I'm afraid I don't have anything to give to you from my time in the Chinese culture. Just.. Do what your heart says! You love this boy and I'm sure whatever you'll make will make him happy. I am happy you're taking such time to work on making Li feel better. I wish you luck!"

Kero paused and gave Sakura a sneer. "YOU'VE BEEN MAKING FOOD WITHOUT TELLING ME?!" Sakura didn't even have a minute to react before Kero flew toward her and gently punched her shoulder in a fit of rage. It felt like a sack of teddy bears. "How dare you! You know I love rice balls! Sakura......" His voice dragged on in a long, pitchy, annoying tone.

Sakura grabbed his tiny waist and looked at him. "I'm trying to cheer up Li. You would've eaten everything if I told you!" Kero gasped, "I would never!!.. Unless it had soy sauce." He said in a matter of fact choice of words.

"EXACTLY!"

"Well if you're gonna starve me like a sack of potatoes you may as well let me help. I could even get Yue in on this." Sakura blinked in shock and laughed. "Do you guys even know how to cook?" Kero smiled boldly, tail wagging back and forth with audacious movements. "Oh yeah! Dunno about Yue but I sure can." Sakura grinned, "Ill hold you to that."

Touya yelled through her door, "Monster! Stop talking to yourself before you become more of a ghost hater. Food can wait yknow." Sakura growled and opened her door with force, her steps shaking the floor. "WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" She chased Touya through the house after slamming her door, leaving Kero alone to do her death homework for another 3 hours.. So much for being a guardian.
